The year 2025 has been very remarkable for Chhattisgarh Police in the anti-Naxal campaign. This year the police has destroyed all the records to end Naxalism. This year, success has been achieved in killing 256 Naxalites in different encounters between Naxalites and soldiers. In these encounters, 10 CC members including the Politburo of the Maoist organization were killed in separate encounters and five Central Committee members have given up their arms and joined the mainstream.

This year, along with the decline in the number of martyrdom of soldiers, the number of civilians losing their lives in Naxalite violence has also decreased. The landmines which caused maximum damage to the security forces and the common people were also destroyed in large numbers by the police in an active operation. Police recovered and destroyed more than 950 such IEDs. Officials believe that in the coming year, many areas of Bastar division which were considered strongholds of Naxalites for the last 4 decades will become completely Naxal free.

256 Naxalites killed in encounter in the year 2025

According to Bastar IG, 256 Maoists have been killed in the year 2025. These killed Naxalites include Politburo as well as CC members, DKSZC and DVCM and a large number of ACM and party members. A total of 10 Maoists, including Central Committee members and Politburo members of the Maoist organization, have been killed in separate encounters. Apart from this, five Central Committee members surrendered before the police.

The IG says that at present only 150 to 200 armed Maoists are left in the Maoist organization. These include top Maoist leaders Politburo Ganapati, Devji, Mishir Besra. Apart from this, only Sangram is left among the Central Committee members and Papa Rao, Barse Deva, Fagnu and a few Maoist leaders are left in the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee. The police is also continuously appealing to them to surrender.

More than 600 weapons recovered

Apart from this, police have recovered 664 weapons in the encounters in different districts of Bastar division, which includes 232 automatic weapons. In the year 2025, 23 soldiers have been martyred in different encounters. 46 civilians have been killed in Naxal violence in different districts of Bastar division. In this, most of the Naxalites have committed murder on the allegation of being a police informer. However, compared to previous years, this year there has been a decrease in the number of killings of civilians.

More than 1500 Naxalites surrendered

1562 Naxalites have surrendered under the Punarvasniti (Come Back Home) campaign being run in different districts of Bastar division. This number of Naxalites surrendering in the year 2025 is the highest compared to the last 5 years.

Among these, Naxalites from Maad Division as well as Darbha Division and Indravati National Park area have laid down their arms and surrendered. Apart from this, the police has succeeded in arresting 884 Naxalites. The IG also said that in the last two years, Naxalites carrying rewards worth Rs 12 crore have been killed by the soldiers in different encounters.

52 police camps opened this year

Along with the success in anti-Naxal operations, the force has strengthened its presence in these inaccessible areas through security camps. At present, a total of 357 security camps have been established in Bastar division, which shows the extensive and permanent deployment of the force in Maoist affected areas. The special thing is that whereas earlier an average of 15–16 camps were opened every year, in the year 2025 a record 52 new security camps were established. The biggest impact was seen in Abujhmad area of ​​Narayanpur, where 22 new camps were opened.

At the same time, 18 camps have been set up in the interior areas of Bijapur and 12 camps in the Maoist affected areas of Sukma district, which also include sensitive areas like Karregutta. Police claim that under the Niyya Nellanar scheme, security camps are now becoming not just a base of operations but a gateway to development. Education, health, roads and other basic facilities are being provided to the villages by setting up new camps at a total of 52 places including Tekalgudem, Puvarti, Tumalpad, Raigudem, Akashavaya, Nagaram, Pedabodkel, Ursangal.

More than 950 IEDs recovered

During the anti-Naxal campaign in Chhattisgarh, in the year 2025, the police had to face the maximum number of landmine traps. During this period, be it Karigutta mountain or road and siege, IED was the main reason for the martyrdom of more than 10 soldiers and injuries to more than 50 soldiers.

This weapon of Naxalites is still very dangerous but landmines proved to be most useful for the demanding police in eliminating Naxalism. Before and after the operation, police conducted special operations to gain control over a large number of IEDs and during this, more than 950 IEDs were recovered and destroyed.

What did Bastar IG Sundarraj P say?

Bastar IG Sunderraj P says that the success in anti-Naxal operations this year is due to the police’s new strategy against Naxalites, bringing changes in Naxal operations along with use of new technology, Naxalites losing their support base among the villagers due to development reaching rural areas, increasing the number of police camps and joining the Maoist organization.

With the killing of top Maoist leaders in separate encounters this year, the number of fighting Naxalites in the Maoist organization has reduced significantly. With the new year, the police will fight a decisive battle against these Naxalites. However, local Naxalites are continuously being appealed to surrender.

In Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, all 27 Naxalites killed in an encounter with security forces were identified as dreaded Naxalites in the state, which had a total reward of Rs 3.33 crore. In one of the biggest campaigns against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh, security forces killed 27 Naxalites including Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) during an encounter in the forest of Abujhmad on the border of Bijapur-Narayanpur district. 12 women Naxalites were also killed in this encounter.

Officials said that during the campaign, two soldiers of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of the State Police also died. Inspector General of Police of Bastar region Sundararaj P said that one of the slain Naxalites was identified in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday as a prize of Rs 1 crore Basavraju (70), while the other was identified on Thursday.
