‘Not with every Kashmir terrorist’- Omar Abdullah

He further said, “Unfortunately, when we start looking at every Jammu and Kashmir person and every Kashmiri Muslim in the same light and start giving the picture that every Kashmiri Muslim is a terrorist, then it becomes very difficult to keep people on the right track.”

Not only this, CM Omar Abdullah further said, “I feel that those who are guilty of this accident should be given strict punishment, but the innocent people should be kept out of this.”

A day after losing one seat to the BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday (October 25) said the National Conference (NC) had tried its best to win all four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, but the final result of 3-1 shows both success and disappointment at the end of the polling.

Speaking to the media, Omar Abdullah said that there should be no doubt on the result of 3-1 because we had tried everything possible to win by 4-0, but unfortunately some people cheated us in the last stage of voting.

CM Abdullah said, “Now it is very clear who supported us and who did not, although I do not find it right to take anyone’s name here. It is really sad, but I am thankful to all those who stood with us till the end. As far as those who withdrew their support at the last moment, it is disappointing.”

‘Not a single vote was cross-voted’

However, CM Omar said with full confidence that not a single vote of the National Conference was cross-voted or spoiled and it would not be right to name those MLAs who voted against the alliance and in favor of BJP. He said that I am satisfied that not even a single vote of NC went astray.

NC won 3 out of 4 seats

This came after allegations that some of the seven MLAs either voted for the BJP or ‘deliberately’ spoiled their votes during the Rajya Sabha elections in which the National Conference won three out of four seats, while the BJP managed to win only one seat despite the support of its 28 members.

BJP’s Satpal Sharma won the fourth Rajya Sabha seat by securing 32 votes, while Congress, PDP, CPIM, Awami Ittehad Party, Aam Aadmi Party and six independent members pledged support to the 41 NC members.

NC candidate stuck on 21 votes

During counting, election officials declared 3 votes invalid, while 4 members cross-voted for BJP for the fourth seat, leaving NC’s Imran Nabi Dar stuck at 21 votes. The winning margin for the two seats in the third notification was fixed at 28.2, which means the winner needed 29 votes to cross the line. And the National Conference was promised the support of 59 votes, but this defeat has not yet answered many questions.

There was a dispute between the National Conference and Congress regarding the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Actually, Congress has refused to contest the Rajya Sabha elections. The party says that we had demanded a reserved seat from NC, which we did not get. Now State President Tariq Hameed Karra said that our trust has been broken.

State Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra on Monday (October 13) said the National Conference (NC)’s “backdown” from its commitment to the Congress leadership regarding the Rajya Sabha elections shows that it is reconsidering its ties with the Indian block. Speaking to reporters in Srinagar on Monday, Karra said that the NC leadership had assured Congress of allotting a reserved seat.

He said, “We were told that we would be allotted a safe seat, first or second. When the NC was adamant on giving us the fourth seat, which was considered unsafe, we called a core committee meeting. It was unanimously decided that we should not contest an election in which there is a possibility of our defeat. The committee also expressed displeasure over the backtracking on the promises made at the level of Sonia ji and Kharge ji.”

‘Wrote a letter to Omar Abdullah’

He further said that the NC leadership told that there will be no compromise on anything beyond the fourth seat. Karra further said, “When Mir Sahab and I sent a joint letter to Omar Sahab, he instructed us to talk to Farooq Sahab. Farooq Sahab’s answer was clear in itself. He told us that he was ready to discuss only the fourth seat.”

‘Our trust has been broken’

When asked whether the NC had betrayed the Congress, Tariq Karra replied, “I wouldn’t use the word betrayal. But our trust has been broken.” He further said that the NC’s actions indicate that it is reconsidering its relations with the India block.

Hameed Karra also said, “It is not that the agreement with NC in Jammu and Kashmir remains incomplete. But this also indicates that NC is considering whether it should remain in the India block.”

‘Will not give statement on BJP’s irresponsible remarks’

On the statement of opposition leader Sunil Sharma calling Congress a puppet of National Conference, he said that I will not react to the irresponsible statements of BJP.

The entire cabinet, including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, hoped that on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would give back the status of full state to Jammu and Kashmir. However, nothing like this happened. In such a situation, now CM Omar Abdullah has expressed disappointment. He said during the flag hoisting that we all wait, waiting. In such a situation, the National Conference government is going to take big steps.

Omar Abdullah has announced that now he is going to start the signature campaign, in which he will demand people in front of the center after taking the signature of the public. CM Abdullah said, “Now the time has come that we have to come out of offices and start a new campaign from every village, there will be a full state fight for Jammu and Kashmir. In the next 8 weeks we will run a signature campaign in all the assembly and demand people in front of the center.”

Along with this, he also warned the public. Omar Abdullah said, “If 90 percent of the people in the signature campaign did not support the return of Jammu and Kashmir, then there will be no right to live here.”

Targeting the central government, Omar Abdullah said, “We thought that I would benefit only by staying with good relationships and democracy with the Center. I had to bear political losses for this decision. But now the time has come to take the right steps.”

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surendra Chaudhary hoped that this time on the 79th independence day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should announce the Red Fort that Jammu and Kashmir is returned to the full state status.

He alleged that arbitrarily a cow was divided into two union territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This decision was never accepted to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.

‘Central government should fulfill promise’
In such a situation, the deputy CM said that the promise made by PM Modi and Amit Shah should now be fulfilled. The Center had promised that Jammu and Kashmir would again get full state status when the right time comes. This is the best time. It is expected that PM Modi will announce it in his speech from the Red Fort.

Counting the achievements of Omar Abdulla government, Surendra Chaudhary said that women are getting free journey in buses in Jammu and Kashmir. The assistance for marriage has been increased from 50 thousand to 75 thousand. The government is running many schemes like pension to 200 units free electricity, senior citizens, widows and disabled.

‘People are not happy with the decision of 2019’
National Conference Provincial President Ratan Lal Gupta emphasized that this clear message has been received from the 2024 assembly elections. Getting a huge mandate to NC-Congress alliance shows that the public is not happy with the 2019 decision.

He said that the democratic mandate should be respected. Reiterating the commitment to the ruling party’s equal development, he said that the National Conference has intensified its public relations program in Jammu region. Gupta said, “We are contacting them to listen to the complaints of the people, ensure timely solutions and make them aware of the achievements of the last 10 months of the government led by Omar Abdullah.”

He said that the party is standing firmly with the aspirations of the people and will continue to restore the status of full state and advocate the rights of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.

The discussion on who is going to go to the Rajya Sabha this time by the ruling party of Jammu and Kashmir, the discussion is fast. The name of party president Farooq Abdullah is also in the race and Chaudhary Muhammad Ramadan can also be sent to Rajya Sabha.

If sources are to be believed, NC has decided to send its president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and former minister Chaudhary Muhammad Ramadan to Rajya Sabha. Congress not included in CM Abdullah’s cabinet?

The answer has also come from the Congress on this. The party says that until the central government gives full state status to Jammu and Kashmir, its leaders will not join the cabinet. Congress engaged in providing full state status to Jammu and Kashmir
Recently, the Congress demonstrated at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and demanded that Jammu and Kashmir be returned to the status of ‘full state’ soon.
