The political battle has intensified over the renaming of MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act) to Bharat-Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (VB-G RAM G) developed by the Modi government. BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement on this issue has further fueled the controversy. On Kangana’s statement, Congress leader Supriya Srinet said tauntingly, ‘BJP is filled with crown jewels.’

Opposition protests against name change
Regarding changing the name of MNREGA, all the opposition parties including Congress have accused BJP of insulting Mahatma Gandhi. The opposition says that the government is trying to erase Gandhi’s legacy by changing the laws related to his name.

What was Kangana Ranaut’s statement?
While talking to the media outside the Parliament, Kangana Ranaut said, ‘How was Gandhiji insulted by changing the name of MNREGA to Ji Ram Ji? Mahatma Gandhi had made a national anthem about ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’. With this he organized the entire country. Kangana also said that the government is giving the name of Ram to fulfill Gandhiji’s dream. This statement of Kangana Ranaut quickly went viral on social media. Ashok Gehlot called Gandhi an insult
Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also opposed changing the name of MNREGA. He called it a conspiracy to sideline Gandhiji. Gehlot wrote on Twitter, ‘Mahatma Gandhi was an ardent devotee of Lord Shri Ram throughout his life and even in his last moments he called ‘O Ram’. Today, the evil attempt that the Central Government is making to sideline Gandhiji under the guise of the same ‘Ram’ name (VB-G RAM G) is extremely condemnable.

The new rates will be effective from 1 April 2025 and this change will be applicable from midnight of 31 March.

Impact on Lucknow route

Travel on Lucknow route will become expensive due to new toll tax hike. Toll has been increased on routes like Lucknow-Kanpur, Ayodhya, Rae Bareli and Barabanki. Due to increase in toll tax on Lucknow route, passengers will have to pay more money. The toll for light vehicles (car/jeep) has been increased from ₹ 5 to ₹ 10. While the toll for heavy vehicles has been increased from ₹ 20 to ₹ 25.

Toll tax increased on Delhi-Meerut Expressway

Those traveling on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH-9 will now have to pay more toll tax. The toll tax from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut has been increased, under which the toll for car/jeep has been increased from ₹ 165 to ₹ 170. Apart from this, toll for light commercial vehicles has been reduced to ₹ 275 and toll for trucks ₹ 580. This change will be applicable from 1 April 2025.

Toll tax increased on chaijarasi toll plaza

The toll tax has also been changed on the Chhejarasi toll plaza (NH-9). Here the toll of the car has been increased from ₹ 170 to ₹ 175. Apart from this, toll ₹ 280 for light commercial vehicles and ₹ 590 for bus/truck and maximum toll for heavy vehicles with 7 or more have been reduced to ₹ 590. Those going from Ghaziabad to Meerut will now have to pay ₹ 75 toll instead of ₹ 70.

The effect of change in toll tax will also be seen on Delhi-Jaipur highway and NH-44 route

From April 1, new toll tax rates will be implemented at Kherki Daula, Gharaunda and Ghaggar toll plaza.

Gharaunda toll plaza

New toll tax rates have been implemented at Gharaunda toll plaza. Here the toll of one side will be ₹ 195 and the toll of movement will be ₹ 290. Apart from this, the price of heavy vehicles like bus and truck toll pass has been increased from ₹ 21,000 to ₹ 21,750. Local residents will also have to pay ₹ 5 to ₹ 10 more than before.

Ghaggar toll plaza

The toll tax has also been changed at Ghaggar toll plaza. Here the toll of car, jeep and van has been increased by ₹ 5. Apart from this, Monthly Pass will be ₹ 145 expensive while the price for bus and truck will be ₹ 475.

Kherki Daula Toll Plaza

The toll of large vehicles at Kherki Daula toll plaza has been increased by ₹ 5 and this increase will also be applicable on withdrawal, which means that the two -sided journey will cost an additional cost of ₹ 10 directly. Apart from this, the price of monthly pass has been increased from ₹ 930 to ₹ 950. For commercial car/jeep, monthly pass ₹ 1255 and LMV/Minibus drivers will have to pay ₹ 125.

Varanasi-Gorakhpur and Rohtak
The toll rates on Varanasi-Gorakhpur NH-29 Expressway will be implemented by 5% from April 1. Apart from this, new rates will also be implemented on Makhdauli and Medina toll plaza in Rohtak city of Haryana. Here car drivers will have to pay ₹ 5 additional while bus and truck owners will have to pay ₹ 10 more.
