Nepal is currently facing the biggest and fierce mass movement of decades. Protests led by ‘Jane Z’ protesters against corruption, nepotism and social media ban have taken violent form. There is arson and sabotage in the capital Kathmandu and other cities. This movement has become especially a symbol of the anger of the youth, who had been angry with political corruption and inequalities for a long time.
The most shocking moment of this movement came when the protesters attacked Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba. In the video, he can be seen wiping blood from his face. Angry mob entered his residence and kicked him. The protesters also recorded a video of the incident and put it on social media.

PM Oli resigns
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned amid violence and demonstrations. After banning social media, the demonstrations became even more fierce. The government had banned 26 unregistered platforms, including Facebook, YouTube and X. Despite the removal of the ban, the movement is not taking the name of stopping. With the resignation of Prime Minister Oli, Nepal’s political situation has become more unstable.

Death and injured number increased
So far 21 people have died in the ongoing demonstration in Nepal. More than 300 people are said to be injured. The situation is the worst in the capital Kathmandu, where even the minister is not safe. Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was attacked by angry protesters. In a video, a protestor kicks them and dropped them, causing their balance to deteriorate and they collided with the wall.

Inequalities increased public anger
In a poor country like Nepal, where per capita income is only $ 1,400 per year, the luxurious property and luxury lifestyle of politicians and their children created anger in the public’s mind. The youth accused the leaders that they are having fun in the poverty of the public. As a result, the movement gradually took the form of anti-corruption public revolution.

The youth of Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012 in Nepal, have launched a new fight against corruption and nepotism. This demonstration has become the identity of both the political consciousness and disappointment of the younger generation of Nepal. According to the Himalayan Times, protests against corruption and social media ban in New Baneshwar in Kathmandu became violent. During the clash, a generation jade protesting was injured by a bullet, however, he died during treatment at the civil hospital. Apart from this, more than 80 people have been injured.

Generation Z (youths born in 1997-2012) on Monday (8 September 2025) in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu attacked the federal parliament complex in New Baneshwar. The protesters were trying to enter the police barricades and climb the gates. The police released tear gas shells and water showers to stop them. Earlier, the protesters had resolved to remain peaceful, but the atmosphere turned violent during March towards Parliament House.

Curfew announcement
After the situation deteriorated, the Kathmandu District Administration Office immediately implemented the curfew. The curfew remained in force from 12:30 pm to 10:00 pm. This decision was taken by Chief District Officer Chhabi Rizal under Section 6 (A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028. Kathmandu district administration has imposed curfew from New Baneshwar Chowk to Bijulibzar Bridge (near Everest Hotel) located in the west area of ​​the city. The curfew has been set up in the eastern region from Min Bhawan, Shanti Nagar to Tinkun Chowk, iPlex goods in North Side to Ratna State Secondary School and Shankhamul Bridge in South.

Demonstration
These protesters of Generation Z have taken to the streets against the government on two major issues. There are many reasons in this, in which two are considered very important. In this, the first is a case related to corruption and nepotism and the second is being demonstrated by the government to ban social media. These issues have given rise to anger and dissatisfaction among the youth across the country.

Not only Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, but also in other big cities of the country, which is as follows:

In these places also the youth took placards and opposed the government’s decision and demanded transparency.

Conflict between police and protesters
In Baneshwar, many youths were seen climbing the police guard house before leaving tear gas from security forces. At the same time, the police continued to try to remove the protesters trying to enter the Parliament House. The administration has termed the situation as very stressful.

The protesters gathered at 9 am in Mandla in the capital Kathmandu and started a rally with placards and slogans. The rally lasted till Baneshwar, which is a major political center of Nepal.
