The property suffered a huge loss during the recent Gen-G movement in Nepal. Because of this, the biggest insurance claim ever in the history of Nepal has been recorded. The total amount of these claims has reached about 21 billion Nepali rupees. According to the data released by Nepal Insurance Authority (which is the regulatory of the insurance sector) on Thursday, non-Life Insurance Companies received 1,984 claims from the insured people till 16 September, whose total amount is Rs 20.7 billion Nepali.

The loss is said to be assessed, so the claim is expected to increase. The claims that have been received by insurance companies so far are more than the claims found during the 2015 earthquake, when the claims reached 16.5 billion NPRs. According to the regulator, Nepal also launched an insurance scheme to cover the Covid-19 threat in 2020 and insurance companies received more than 16 billion NPR claims.

5.14 billion Nepalese claims on this company

The Branch of Indian Oriental Insurance, Oriental Insurance Company Limited has received the highest claim amount till 16 September. This information has been received from the data released from the concerned authority. This company has received claims of 5.14 billion Nepali rupees in 40 cases alone. It is said that most of these claims have come from Hotel Hilton Kathmandu, which suffered the most during protests.

Which five companies were the most stunned claim

Siddharth Premier Insurance, Summit Insurance, IGI Prudential Insurance and Sagarmatha Lumbini are also among the top five companies in terms of receiving the highest amount of claims. According to a Nepal Industries Confederation (CNI) official, some major commercial companies have alone reported losses of more than 60 billion Nepali rupees. CNI is a business organization, collecting information about the losses caused to private sector properties.

The political history of Nepal has been full of upheaval. In 1951, when the country moved towards democracy from the monarchy, it was expected that stability would come, but after that the monarchy captured power several times and weakened democratic institutions. The Maoist rebellion in the 1990s completely changed Nepal’s politics. The monarchy ended in 2006 and the Maoists emerged as the biggest political force in 2008, but they also failed to give a permanent and strong rule. Since 2008, no party in Nepal could achieve majority. In the current Parliament, the outgoing Prime Minister Oli’s party also had only 78 seats out of 285. Despite political instability, Nepal has achieved shocking success in poverty alleviation sector. In 1995, where 55 percent of the people were below the international poverty line ($ 2.15 per day), it declined to just 0.4 per cent by 2023. However, this success has come from domestic economic development, but from the earnings and remittances of migrants. Today, about 30 percent of Nepal’s GDP is dependent on the amount coming from abroad. Some member works abroad from every fourth house. That is, a large part of Nepali society today is based on the economies of other countries of the world. This is the reason why anger increased from social media ban. This was not only an attempt to stop the voice of the younger generation, but a cheaper means was also taken away to connect with family members working abroad.

Nepal’s economy depends on migrants
