Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday (November 2, 2025) held a joint meeting with the Chief Ministers of all seven provinces in connection with the preparations for the general elections to be held in the country on March 5, 2026. Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator Ram Bahadur Rawal said that this meeting was called to strengthen communication and coordination between the federal and provincial governments in the changed political context.

73-year-old Sushila Karki became the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal on September 12, 2025 this year after the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stepped down from the post. Oli was ousted from power following youth-led Gen Z protests against corruption and a ban on social media.

Karki government trying to create consensus regarding elections

This meeting was another phase of discussions by the Prime Minister with various stakeholders in connection with the preparations for the general elections. Karki is continuing his meetings with leaders of various political parties as well as the Gen Z group ahead of the elections to be held in March next year with the aim of building a consensus. Karki also met Nepali Congress (NC) general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Vishwa Prakash Sharma on Saturday (October 31, 2025) regarding the need to clarify the stand of political parties regarding the elections.

PM Karki’s meeting regarding general elections lasted for an hour

According to sources in Prime Minister Karki’s secretariat, the one-hour long meeting focused on the government’s election preparations, improvement in law and order situation and other tasks to be completed before the elections. Nepali Congress leaders assured him of their party’s commitment to participate in the elections. After the meeting, Nepal Congress leaders Thapa and Sharma told reporters that Congress will soon hold serious talks with the Gen Z group as well as other political parties.

Karki government appealed to create favorable environment for elections

After the formation of the caretaker government in September, Karki had met representatives of major political parties for the first time on October 21 to discuss general election preparations and security issues. Karki sought cooperation from all political parties in conducting free and fair elections, while the leaders urged the government to create a conducive environment for the elections.

After an important meeting held with the heads of various security agencies in the presence of Prime Minister Karki, Home Minister Aryal said, ‘The government is always ready for talks and discussions to solve the problems.’

He lashed out at the new Gen Z administration on Saturday (September 27, 2025) after his first public presence. He addressed the interim government of Nepal under the leadership of Sushila Karki, former Chief Justice of Nepal, as the Jane Z government.
He said, ‘This is Jane Z government, which has not been made according to the provisions of the Constitution of Nepal, nor the people have chosen it by voting. This government has been formed through the incident of violence, sabotage and arson.

Former PM raised questions on Nepal’s interim government

During this, former Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli also questioned the intention of the current leadership of the country. He said, ‘What does the government think that we will run abroad by handing over the country in their hands? We have to make this country. We have to make this country constitutional and democratic and bring the politics here back on track. We will bring the rule of law again in the country.

KP Oli also made a statement on rumors related to violence

The former Prime Minister of Nepal has also made a statement about the rumors related to violence during this period, which is being associated with them. He said, ‘Another rumor has been raised by taking my name. People are being provoked to say that give me a gun, I will kill him, give me a sword, I will cut it and give me a drone, so I will attack him. All these things are being spread with great enthusiasm. But what was my role in this?

He said, ‘Hearing the news of firing, I gathered information about it. I was told that only rubber bullets were used, but later I came to know that 14 people had died. I want to ask how did those people get shot in their heads? How can I stop it?’

Preparations are being made to make Omprakash Aral a Home Minister, Rameshwar Khanal as Finance Minister, Kulman Ghising as Energy Minister and Balanand Sharma as Defense Minister. The remaining posts will be discussed later.

Sources said that the swearing -in ceremony can take place today (September 15). With this, Nepal’s long -standing political instability is expected to end. President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved Parliament, assuming the demand of GEN-Z protesters and announced to hold elections by March 2026.

Experienced faces get important responsibility

Sushila Karki has given place to such faces in the cabinet, whose image is clean and specialized.

Nepal’s National Swatantra Party (RSP) President Ravi Lamichhane has been sent back to his house on Saturday (September 13, 2025). The police cited security related reasons behind this. In fact, during the recent anti-government Gen-G movement in Nepal, protesters fired Ravi Lamichna in jail.

However, after former Chief Justice Sushila Karki took over as an interim Prime Minister in Nepal, Laming went back to Nakkhu Jail on Saturday (September 13, 2025) after taking over as an interim Prime Minister. Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Ravi Lamichhane said that he was returning to jail again with the hope that he would never have injustice again, because the country has got a symbol of justice as Prime Minister. Describing his birthday on Saturday (September 13), Lamichhane said that he is being sent back to jail as a gift of his birthday.

Nakkhu jail administration RSP Refusal to keep the chairman in jail

As soon as Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Ravi Lamichne came to the Jail administration to surrender, the jail administration refused to keep him in jail. Lamichane along with his wife Nikita and RSP acting president DP Aryal reached Nakkhu Jail. However, he stayed in the jail premises for two hours, but the jail administration did not lodge inside the jail.

RSP Leader Ganesh Parjuli gave information

According to RSP leader Ganesh Parjuli, ‘Nakkhu jail officials did not allow the Lamichna to stay in jail, citing insufficient security arrangements. He said that whenever needed, he will be asked to report. At the moment, he is more secure at his home. After this, the way Lamichhane came to jail, he returned to his home.

Ravi Lamichhane supported Sushila Karki

The National Swatantra Party (RSP) of Ravi Lamichhane has given his support to the interim government led by Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister and former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. Lamichane has urged Nepal’s newly appointed interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki to protect the country’s constitution, strict action against corruption, rebuild and play an active role in economic reforms.

Sushila Karki got the leadership of the country in difficult times- Kavindra

At the same time, on Saturday (September 13, 2025) on behalf of General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti, the NISP said that Prime Minister Sushila Karki has been given the responsibility of leading the country in a difficult transition period and such a big change has been possible only due to the decisive intervention of the new generation of the country.

A new chapter has finally started in the country amid political turmoil in Nepal. Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was sworn in as the first woman interim Prime Minister of Nepal after long struggle and pressure of the voice of the youth. Many young leaders including Sudan Gurung in Nepal have played an important role in this transformational movement. It has become clear from this change that Nepal will now move forward under the leadership of the youth.

Sushila Karki became interim Prime Minister
On Friday (September 12, 2025) Sushila Karki was sworn in as the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal. Leading the interim government, he ended the political uncertainty prevailing in the country. Earlier, the decisions of widespread protests against KP Sharma Oli and sanctions on social media created a stir in the entire country. After this movement, KP Oli had to resign from the post of Prime Minister.

Who is Sudan Gurung who contributes important in this movement?
Sudan Gurung’s contribution to this historical change has also been very important. 36 -year -old Sudan Gurung is being considered as the voice of the youth of Nepal. He organized the youth under an organization called ‘Hami Nepal’ and opened a front against the decisions of the government. In particular, he led the protest against the government’s decision to ban social media, which later led to the collapse of KP Oli government. Sushila Karki’s swearing -in ceremony was seen taking blessings to Sudan Gurung, which indicates that he is going to play an important role in the establishment of the new Nepal.

What is Hami Nepal and when it was established?
Under the leadership of Sudan Gurung, an NGO named ‘Hami Nepal’ was registered in 2020. The objective of this organization was said to be social welfare, relief work in natural disasters and empowering youth. This organization has become very popular among the youth, due to which thousands of youths took to the streets on a voice of Gurung. It is being said that his goal is to establish stability, democracy and transparency in Nepal.

India’s reaction on the formation of interim government
India has also expressed happiness over Sushila Karki getting the command of Nepal’s power. New Delhi issued a welcome message saying that they hope that there will be an atmosphere of peace and stability in Nepal. India also clarified that work will continue for the good and prosperity of the two countries as a close neighbor, democratic partner and long term development partner.

The process of formation of the interim government under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki in Nepal is caught in the deadlock. The leaders of Nepal are divided on whether Parliament should be dissolved before taking over Karki.

The formation of an interim administration under the leadership of Sushila Karki has been politically a widespread agreement, but the process got stuck in the middle during the tripartite talks between Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel, Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel and representatives of the Gen-G movement. Both Karki and Jane-G leader Sudan Gurung are adamant on the fact that the House of Representatives should be dissolved before taking oath.

What is the constitutional process to dissolve Parliament in Nepal?

According to the Constitution of Nepal, Parliament can be dissolved only after the Prime Minister’s recommendation and the approval of the President. This process in 2020 and 2021, the then Prime Minister K.K. P. Sharma was adopted twice under Oli’s rule, but in both the cases, the Supreme Court intervened and re -established the Parliament.

President Paudel is alerted by the recurrence of constitutional disputes and advocating a path that maintains institutional validity.

I will not take over PM without dissolving Parliament- Karki

A close friend of Nepal’s President Paudel said, “This entire process should be under the constitutional structure.” However, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki made it clear that she would not take over as an interim Prime Minister without dissolving Parliament.

Debate on the formation of interim government

Due to this difference, the formation of the interim government is currently hanging in the balance. The discussions are arguing whether President Paudel should dissolve Parliament just before Karki’s swearing in, or Karki should take the oath of Prime Minister first and after that the Parliament should be dissolved with his recommendation.
