There is a havoc of nature in India’s neighboring Nepal. A case of landslides also came to light due to continuous rains in Nepal. According to the armed police force headquarters, 43 people have died in landslides since Friday. Due to continuous heavy rains since Friday (October 03, 2025), there are situations like landslides, floods and waterlogging in different places. In India, the highest number of deaths occurred in Ilam district bordering Darjeeling.

Ilam’s Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal said in a conversation with IANS, three houses collapsed in a landslide on Saturday. He said that more houses have been damaged in landslides, so the death toll is likely to increase. The Ilam District Administration Office (DAO) has sought a detailed report of landslides and flood damage from the local administration of the district.

Lalitpur district of Kathmandu is the highest rainfall

Officer Sunita Nepal said that due to landslides, the Mechi highway connecting Ilam to South Jhapa district was also blocked in many places. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorological, there was heavy rains since Friday, but the situation improved slightly on Sunday morning.

In a notice issued on Sunday (October 05, 2025), the Meteorological Department said that most of the districts have reduced rainfall and the highest rainfall was recorded in some parts of Lalitpur district of Kathmandu Valley. The department said, ‘Kathmandu, Morang, Sunsari, Udaipur, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Saralahi, Sindhuli and some areas of Ramhechhap districts are receiving light rain.’

Many highways affected due to landslides

The department has predicted heavy rains in the hilly districts of East Koshi province on Sunday afternoon and night. Many highways have also been damaged due to landslides, due to which movement was also disrupted. The Nepal government has still continued the ban on the entry and exit of vehicles going to Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, the major highway connecting the valley, the Earth Highway (connects Kathmandu to western Nepal), the BP highway (connects the capital to southeastern Nepal) and the Araniko highway (connecting Kathmandu to the Chinese border) have been completely blocked.

At the same time, the interim Prime Minister of the country Sushila Karki has issued a video message and appealed to the citizens to stay indoors and avoid traveling until there is a lot of need. Apart from this, he has assured the safety of citizens.

Nepal Rain Alert: People’s lives have been completely affected due to continuous rains in Nepal. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy landslides in many places for the next three days. In view of this, the Nepal government has banned the movement of vehicles in Kathmandu on Saturday.

The National Disaster Management Authority said that no vehicle in Kathmandu Valley will go inside or out from Saturday to Monday. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the people.

1. The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared a two -day public holiday in the entire country on Sunday and Monday in view of continuous heavy rains. Apart from this, the airport has also been closed.
2. Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal said that this holiday will not apply to disaster management offices and essential services.
3. Kamal Ram Joshi, an official of the Meteorological Department, said that many districts of the country have been divided into high risk and risky category. The public has been appealed to be vigilant.
4. Red alert has been issued for the districts of Sunsari, Mahotari, Udaipur, Sirha, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Rauthat, Bara, Saptari, Parsa, Sindhuli, Kabhre, Dolkha, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Sindhupalchok and Chitwan districts.
5. Joshi said that the monsoon system has entered the central part of Nepal and there is a possibility of very strong rains from 7–8 am to 8 am today.
6. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said that the new low pressure system from Odisha (India) is now moving towards Nepal, which will cause heavy rainfall from October 4 to 6.
7. The Meteorological Department (DHM) has warned that the water level of Narayani, Bagmati, Kamla and Koshi rivers can rise to dangerous levels. There is a sudden risk of flooding in small drains and mountainous streams.
8. The National Disaster Risk Library Authority (NDRRMA) has issued a travel advisory till 3–6 October and appealed people not to travel at night and avoid long distance travel.
9. The administration has banned the movement of vehicles at night on Hetoda -Kathmandu route. Kanti Highway: Will remain closed from 4 pm to 6 am. Hetauda -Bhese -Kathmandu Marg: Will remain closed from 5 pm to 6 am.
10. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, after meeting with the Chief District Officers, Security Agencies and Disaster Management parties of all 77 districts, directed to make relief preparations “public centered and effective”.
