Is brain tumor cancer?

The biggest misconception is that every brain tumor is cancer. Dr. Satish Rudrappa explains that not all brain tumors are cancerous. There are many tumors which do not spread to other parts of the body. However, due to limited space within the brain, such tumors can also exert pressure and affect important abilities like speaking, walking, memory, vision or balance. Therefore, the severity of a tumor is not only determined by whether it is cancerous or not, but its position, size and speed of growth are also important.

Is headache a symptom of brain tumor?

Another common belief is that the first symptom of a brain tumor is always a headache. But experts say that this is not necessary. According to Dr. Rudrappa, symptoms may vary from patient to patient. In some people, symptoms like seizures, weak vision, difficulty in speaking, weakness in arms and legs, loss of balance or changes in behavior may appear even before headache. This is why persistent neurological symptoms should not be ignored.

Who get brain tumors?

Many people also believe that brain tumors occur only in the elderly. Whereas the truth is that it can happen at any age. Different types of brain tumors are also seen in children, youth and middle-aged people. Therefore, it is not right to take the symptoms lightly due to young age.

What is the relation between mobile phone and brain tumor?

There has been a debate going on for a long time regarding the relationship between mobile phone use and brain tumor. Dr. Satish Rudrappa says that research has been done on this subject for many decades all over the world, but till now no concrete scientific evidence has been found to prove that normal use of mobile phones directly causes brain tumors. The US National Cancer Institute report also states that large studies have not found a clear link between regular use of mobile phones and the risk of brain tumors.

The most harmful myth is that a brain tumor means the end of life. Experts say that modern medicine has made great progress in this field.
