Powerbank had caught fire

On October 19, the power bank with a passenger on board an Indigo flight from Delhi to Dimapur caught fire. This incident has been taken seriously and DGCA has started deliberations in view of these incidents. At present, issues like quantity limit, ban on in-flight charging, rules for storage and visible capacity rating are being considered. There are speculations that in India too, like abroad, charging during flights may be banned. Before bringing new rules, the dependence of passengers on electronic gadgets is also being kept in mind.

Air China flight was diverted

Just a few days before the Indigo flight, an Air China flight was diverted due to a fire in the power bank. Such incidents have happened in many countries in the world, due to which many airlines have changed the rules related to power banks. Emirates Airline has banned the use of power banks during flights. Similarly, Singapore Airlines has also stopped charging through USB ports installed in the cabin. Also, passengers have been asked to keep the power bank in the seat pocket or under-seat baggage.
