GST 2.0: The government is now monitoring the prices of everyday use items like shampoo, pulses, butter and toothpaste. For this, e-commerce platforms have also been included in the scope of investigation. The objective is to ensure that the benefits of cutting GST rates reach consumers completely and correctly.

What is the matter?

After the recently implemented GST deduction (from 22 September), about 99% of the prices of about 99% of the goods should have been reduced. Complaints received that some e-commerce companies are not providing full benefits to consumers. According to news agency PTI, the government has informally warned many e-commerce operators to bring transparency in prices.

The Finance Ministry has ordered the Central GST officials to submit a monthly report of the prices of 54 common goods (brand-wise MRP). The first report was to be submitted to the CBIC (Central Indirect Taxes and Customs Board) by Tuesday. Listed items include shampoo, toothpaste, butter, tomato ketchup, jam, ice cream, AC, TV, cement, diagnostic kit, thermometer, crayon etc.

Companies argument

Many e-commerce platforms described prices as “technical disturbances” after GST cuts. At the same time, some companies themselves have come forward and claimed that they are benefiting consumers by reducing prices. It is clear that the government is keeping a close watch on the e-commerce operators despite the weakening of the “anti-profit system”, so that the general public gets direct benefit of GST cut.

The strict monitoring of the government will not only affect consumers but can also be felt on shares and investors of e-commerce companies. Increasing monitoring of e-commerce companies and pressure to cut prices can affect their profits. Due to doubt among investors, there may be fluctuations in the stock in stocks. If companies cannot increase prices or have to give full benefit of GST deduction to consumers, then the profit margin can be reduced. The company’s financial health may be affected in a long time.

The tremendous craze of the bike is seen in the youth. As soon as the festive season arrives, the demand of the bike increases further. During this time, companies earn huge profits. But do you know how much money does a company earn by selling a bike?

Bike business of bikes in India

The market of two -wheelers in India is growing rapidly. Bike making companies do business of billions of rupees every year by selling millions of bikes. But do you know how much profit does the company really earn by selling a bike and what will affect their earnings due to recent GST rates? Let’s know

India’s two -wheeler market leads the world

Let us know that the stake in India’s GDP is 6 to 7.1 percent. Whereas this sector contributes 49 percent to manufacturing. In such a situation, the economic activities of the country are being strengthened by the sale of vehicles. India’s two -wheeler market is the largest in the world. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), 19.6 million bikes sold in FY 2024-25, which is 9.1% more than the previous year. Companies like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, TVS and Honda are the backbone of this market.

How much do companies benefit?

According to SIAM, the vehicles sold in the showroom get a profit of 3 to 9 per cent, while the government has reduced GST from 28 per cent to 18 per cent on two -wheelers with capacity less than 350 cc. The bike market in India mainly rests on models with a capacity less than 350cc, which is about 98 percent of the total sales. For example, bikes like Hero’s Splendor or Bajaj’s Pulsar are between 80,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh on an average. But the company’s earnings are not only from the sale price, but from the production cost, input tax credit (ITC) and margin.

Benefits or disadvantage after GST deduction?

On one hand, sales will increase with low GST. Experts estimate that two-wheeler sales can rise 15-20 percent in the festive season. Companies like Hero and Bajaj, who sell more than 80 percent commutar bikes, will increase the total profits due to increasing volume. Low GST will reduce the impact on production costs, because auto parts will now be charged 18 percent GST. This will make the supply chain cheaper and the benefit of ITC will increase. As a result, profits per bike may increase by Rs 1,000-2,000. Although big bike companies such as Royal Enfield can be damaged, their 350cc+ model will increase the price by 40% GST, which can reduce sales.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has recently announced a new tax structure, in which major changes have been made for the automobile industry. At first glance, this news may seem expensive to common customers because GST has been increased from 28% to 40% on large and luxury cars. But the real relief is that now these cars will not be put separately, which will make vehicles like Mercedes-Benz and Fortuner cheaper and the luxury vehicles of companies like BMW can be slightly cheaper than before.

Why will luxury vehicles be cheap?

In earlier tax arrangements, Ice cars were applied from 17% to 22% in addition to 28% GST. The effect of this was that the total tax burden reached 45% to 50%. The new system will now have only 40% GST and there will be no cess. That is, the total tax burden will decrease and the price of trains will decrease slightly. This change will be applicable from 22 September 2025, before the fine festive season, when sales are the highest in the automobile sector.

Not only luxury cars, these vehicles are also affected

The benefit of the new GST system will not be limited to luxury cars, but it includes many more changes. Now bus, trucks and ambulances will levy 18% GST, which was 28% earlier. The rate of 18% will also be applicable on auto parts, irrespective of their HS code. Three vehicles will also come in this tax slab. In this way, this decision will give relief not only to private vehicles but also to commercial vehicle industry.

What did Mercedes and Audi say?

MD and CEO Santosh Iyer of Mercedes-Benz India called the decision a progressive step. He said that the government has heard the long -standing demand, which will increase the consumption and will speed up the automobile industry. At the same time, Audi India chief Balbir Singh Dhillon described it as positive for the development of the industry and said that maintaining a low rate for electric vehicles is a welcome step. This will enable the EV portfolio and more customers.

But this time on festivals, everyday things like TV, AC will not put much weight on the pocket, the reason is the new GST rates. The GST Council has decided to simplify the tax slab. Currently, there are four main rates of GST 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. But now the government has proposed that these rates should be reduced to only two main slabs and 18%. All decisions of GST Council will be implemented from 22 September. But the question is, how much will this GST cut reduce the prices of Split AC? Let’s understand the whole account of this.

How low will AC prices be

If you too are thinking of taking AC in the coming time, then this is a relief news for you. Currently, the highest GST rate of 28% is applied to the air conditioner, which is being considered to be reduced to 18 percent. As soon as the proposal is implemented, it will directly affect the prices of AC. After the reduction in GST, the prices of AC can be reduced from Rs 1500 to Rs 2500.

How will the price be low

If you talk about the old GST rate (28%), then suppose a 1.5 ton AC price is Rs 41990 because 28% GST is charged, then its base prize is Rs 32,805. Whereas with the implementation of the new GST rate i.e. 18%, its price will be reduced to Rs 38,709. That is, the prices of AC will save about 3 thousand rupees. This change will not only bring relief for consumers, but can also promote the sales of AC in the festive season.

Common man will get great relief

Before this new GST rate, where the common man used to think about the high prices of AC and fear of electricity bill many times, he can now take advantage of this change. The price of GST is 28% to 18% can reduce the price of Split AC from Rs 1,500 to 2,500. Which depends on the model and price. This is not only beneficial for consumers, but will also give new pace to the AC industry.

Before Diwali, the government has announced a change in GST rates, giving great relief. The new rates will be implemented from September 22 and people will have to pay low prices from soap-shampoo to milk curd and AC-TV to cars. Next week Apple is going to launch its iPhone 17 series. In such a situation, some people may feel that they will not have to put much emphasis on their pockets to buy a new iPhone. Let us know if this is really going to happen.

IPhone prices will not be affected

The official prices of Apple iPhone 17 Series have not been announced yet. According to some reports, the initial price of this series in India can be Rs 84,499. Changes in GST rates will not affect these prices. The reason for this is that smartphones are in the 18 percent tax slab. Earlier, 18 percent GST used to be levied on them and still have to pay the same tax. There has been no change in the GST on the smartphone. In such a situation, customers will have to pay the same tax as earlier for the iPhone as well as all the smartphones. Because of this, mobile prices have not been cut like smart TV and AC.

Demand was made from the government

The India Cellular and Electronics Association (Icea) had demanded the government to bring the smartphone into a 5 percent slab. He said that the phones have now become a need and Digital India has an important tool. Before the arrival of GST, most of the states used to keep mobile phones in the category of essential goods. At present, the government has not accepted this demand. Let us know that at the beginning of GST, there was a 12 percent tax on the smartphone, which was increased to 18 percent in 2020.

The government has made huge changes in the rates of GST. Due to this, the price ranging from household use to electronics items is going to be a huge decrease. The new rates will be applicable from September 22 and people will be able to take advantage of the low prices while shopping for Diwali. This decision has reduced the prices of smart TV, AC and dishwasher etc. There is also a question in the minds of many people that now the smartphones of other companies including Apple and Samsung will be cheap? Let’s know the answer to this question.

Will smartphone prices decrease?

People looking for smartphones being cheap will be some timely disappointment. The latest decision of the government has not affected the prices of mobile phones. Earlier, 18 percent GST used to be on the smartphone and it will still continue. Due to this, the prices of smartphones will not be reduced at the moment. However, it was already being speculated that customers are not going to get any relief on smartphone prices.

Why didn’t the smartphones become cheap?

According to media reports, sources associated with the industry already expected that the price of the smartphone would not be reduced. He says that if there was any discussion about 12 percent slab, there would have been a little hope, but now the bottom slab is 5 percent from 18 percent. In such a situation, it was difficult to bring the smartphone into this slab. However, the India Cellular and Electronics Association had demanded the government to keep the smartphone in a 5 percent slab. He said that the phones have now become a need and Digital India has an important tool. Before the arrival of GST, most of the states used to keep mobile phones in the category of essential goods. Let us know that at the beginning of GST, there was a 12 percent tax on the smartphone, which was increased to 18 percent in 2020.
