Taking an important step in the double murder that took place in New Jersey eight years ago, America has formally charged Indian citizen Nazir Hameed and demanded his immediate extradition. This case is related to the murder of 38-year-old technician Sasikala Narra and her six-year-old son Anish Narra in their apartment in 2016.

According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Nazir Hameed fled to India about six months after the incident. Eight years after the murder, American investigative agencies found his DNA report from his office laptop, on which he worked for a multinational company in Chennai.

Hameed’s laptop was ordered in 2024

On the orders of the US court, Hameed’s laptop was ordered from an India-based company in 2024. The laptop was sent to the New Jersey State Police DNA Lab, where the DNA obtained matched the unidentified blood stain found at the crime scene. This blood was neither that of the victims nor that of Sasikala’s husband Hanu Narra. Investigating officers have called this the strongest evidence in the case.

What did the Burlington County Prosecutor say?

Burlington County Prosecutor La-Shea Bradshaw said that the US and Indian governments have been requested to extradite the accused without delay. It has also been revealed in the reports that Hameed had refused to give his DNA sample during the investigation.

Nazir Hameed returned to India after the murder

According to the investigating agencies, Nazir Hameed was a colleague of Hanu Narra in New Jersey and lived in the same apartment complex. He was also accused of stalking Hanu Narra. He suddenly returned to India six months after the murder and continued working in the Cognizant office in Chennai till 2023. After the subpoena was issued, his laptop was handed over to American agencies, after which the company immediately fired him from the job when the DNA match came to light.

Officials say that the clear reason for the murder has not yet been revealed, but on the basis of DNA evidence and other facts, America has expedited the process of extraditing the accused.
