Bhopal may soon join those cities of the country where postmortem will be done without dissection. On the lines of Japan and developed countries, a big step has been taken towards starting virtual autopsy in Bhopal. In-principle approval has been received to implement this modern technique of postmortem without dissection in AIIMS Bhopal. Under this, the cause of death will be investigated without causing any harm to the dead body and the entire process will be completed in just half an hour. In fact, the management of AIIMS Bhopal has put forward a proposal to establish a virtual autopsy center before the Standing Finance Committee of the Government of India. Earlier, the Union Health Ministry has approved this proposal in principle. Now it has been presented before the representatives of the Finance Ministry, after which the response to this proposal has been positive and it is expected that the funds will be released soon. If approved, AIIMS Bhopal will be the first hospital in Madhya Pradesh, where the facility of virtual autopsy will be started. In such a situation, let us now tell you how virtual autopsy happens and how different it is from normal postmortem.

What is virtual autopsy?

Virtual autopsy is also called virtual postmortem. Usually in postmortem, internal parts are examined by making several cuts in the body, but this does not happen in virtual postmortem. Technology is used in this. Due to which there is no need to tear or cut the body. With the help of this technology, doctors examine the internal parts of the body with the help of CT scan, MRI, X-ray and digital imaging. This is a kind of radiological examination, through which internal injuries, blood clots, fractures or abnormalities in organs are detected.

Virtual autopsy report is completely digital

The report received from virtual autopsy is completely digital, which can be kept safe for a long time. If the cause of death is blockage in a vein, then the report contains a 3D image of that vein. In this, first there is the image of the entire body, then the body part and finally the close-up image of that vein. Such digital evidence of virtual autopsy can also be presented as strong evidence in the court.

How different is this technology from normal postmortem?

In normal postmortem, the internal organs are examined by cutting the body, whereas virtual autopsy is completely based on technology. According to experts, its report is as accurate as that of normal postmortem. But it takes less time and also costs less. Virtual autopsy in India was first started in AIIMS Delhi in 2021. After this, this facility was also started in NEIGRIHMS located in Shillong. Apart from this, approval has been given to implement this technology in AIIMS Rishikesh also.
