Petrol-Diesel Price Today: Nowadays, a fake document is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which it is being claimed that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has ordered an increase in the prices of petrol by Rs 10 and diesel by Rs 12.50. However, PIB (Press Information Bureau) Fact Check has refuted these claims.

What did PIB tell?

PIB has clearly said that this is a FAKE news and the government has not issued any such order. PIB has appealed to the citizens not to share any such unconfirmed and misleading news on social media.

Meanwhile, according to official sources, it is being said that in the coming time, domestic LPG cylinders may become costlier by Rs 40-50 per cylinder. This will be the first major increase in fuel prices in the last four years. Crude oil in the international markets has recently increased to around $ 120–126 per barrel and remains above the level of $ 100 per barrel.

Will prices increase?

Meanwhile, India’s Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V. Ananth Nageswaran has warned that the combination of a below-normal monsoon and rising energy prices could lead to a ‘sudden surge in inflation’ in the coming months — a double whammy for households already burdened by rising petrol and diesel prices. Nageswaran identified four different ways in which the conflict in West Asia is impacting India — sudden changes in prices and supplies, trade disruptions, stagnant logistics costs and a decline in remittances — while cautioning that the crisis is not a one-time storm.

He said that India imports 60 percent of its LPG requirements, out of which 90 percent comes through the now closed Strait of Hormuz. He described it as a ‘very challenging situation’.

Last week, a senior official of the Oil Ministry said that despite the increase in international oil prices, due to retail prices not changing for almost four years, government oil companies are incurring a loss of about Rs 20 per liter on petrol and about Rs 100 per liter on diesel.
