On special dates or occasions, devotees visit temples, religious places or pilgrimage sites to get darshan and blessings of God. On the occasion of New Year, long queues are formed for hours at religious places like Kashi, Khatu Shyam, Ayodhya, Ujjain, Banke Bihari, Haridwar, Vaishno Devi, Tirupati.

Many times it happens that devotees are not able to go to the temple due to excessive crowd, lack of time, health or family reasons. But in the scriptures, devotion and ritual worship done at home has also been said to be fruitful.
