Kerala New CM: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi held consultations with several leaders, including former presidents of the state unit of the party, regarding the selection of the next Chief Minister of Kerala and the name may be announced soon. Senior party leader K. Muraleedharan says that the name of the Chief Minister can be announced late on Tuesday evening or on Wednesday.

Sources said that in the meeting held at ’10 Janpath’, the residence of Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi met senior State Congress Committee leader and Lok Sabha member from Kannur, K. Apart from Sudhakaran, former state president MM Hasan and K. Muraleedharan and the three working presidents of the State Congress Committee, P.C. Vishnunath, Shafi Parambil and A.P. Brainstormed separately with Anil Kumar.

Muraleedharan says that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is reaching Delhi from Bengaluru on Tuesday evening and then he will hold a meeting with the leaders of Kerala and after this discussions can also be held with Sonia Gandhi. Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan, who was the leader of opposition in the last assembly, and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala are considered to be the main contenders for the post of Chief Minister.

Congress leaders meeting regarding Chief Minister selection in Kerala, announcement may be made soon

On May 8, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi had held a meeting with prominent leaders of Kerala. Apart from Venugopal, Chennithala and Satheesan, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Sunny Joseph and party’s state in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi also attended the meeting.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a key constituent of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala, on Monday expressed displeasure over the delay in the selection of the chief minister and said prolonged uncertainty could have political consequences. In the recently concluded assembly elections in Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won 102 out of the total 140 seats in the state.
