America has attacked ISIS fighters in north-west Nigeria on the occasion of Christmas. US President Donald Trump gave this information through social media and the Nigerian government has also confirmed the attack in a press release. Former Ambassador Mahesh Sachdeva had a special conversation with IANS regarding America’s attack on Nigeria.

Former Ambassador Mahesh Sachdeva said, ‘There can be a debate on what impact the US missile attack will have on Nigeria’s security and it can further increase anti-Christian tensions. ‘Most of the violence is perpetrated by Boko Haram and ISIS targeting government officials, and civilians are often caught in the crossfire.’

“In central Nigeria, the conflicts are not based on religion, but over herders’ land between the migrating Fulani group and Christian villages,” he said. At home, America’s action may appeal to its largely Christian MAGA base, and it could be portrayed as protecting Christians in Africa’s most populous country.

Regarding Trump’s statement about the US strike in north-west Nigeria, former diplomat Mahesh Sachdeva said, ‘As a former High Commissioner to Nigeria, I pay attention to this very important development. This is the first time the US has intervened militarily in Nigeria’s security, and launched long-range missiles over Nigerian territory to target the ISIS base in Sokoto, north-western Nigeria. This action taken on Christmas Day sends a clear message to ISIS that America will intervene to protect Christians from attacks.

The US President had already warned about the continuous attacks on Christians in Nigeria. He had said that if this does not stop, America will attack. “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorists in northwest Nigeria,” Trump said in a post on his Truth social platform on Thursday. The terrorists mainly targeted innocent Christians and killed them with brutality, which was not seen in many years and centuries. I had already warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the massacre of Christians, they would have to face the consequences and that is what happened tonight.”

The US Army’s Africa Command said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that the airstrike was carried out at the request of Nigerian authorities. ‘Many terrorists’ were killed in this. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote, ‘I am grateful for the support and cooperation of the Nigerian government.’

US airstrike Nigeria: America has launched a major attack on ISIS targets in Nigeria. The US Air Force has conducted an air strike in northwestern Nigeria, the video of which has also been released by America. US President Donald Trump gave information about this action through social media.

In this series, US President Donald Trump has also explained the reason for these attacks. Describing ISIS terrorists as ‘terrorist trash’, Trump said that this organization was continuously targeting Christians in the area.

Attacks on Christians described as existential crisis
President Trump said that before these attacks, he had warned Nigeria of military action in October and November. According to him, the attacks on Christians in Nigeria are akin to genocide and are posing a direct threat to their existence.

Allegation of brutal murder of innocent Christians

Trump said that the American attacks were carried out against terrorists who were brutally targeting innocent Christians and killing them. He wrote on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, ‘I had already warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the massacre of Christians, they would have to pay a heavy price. Same thing happened tonight. The Department of War carried out many perfect strikes, as only America can do. President Trump clearly said that under his leadership, radical Islamic terrorism will not be allowed to flourish under any circumstances.

Nigeria government confirms cooperation with US

Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry confirmed these air strikes and said that this action is part of the ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and America.
Nigeria Air Strike: America has carried out a massive air strike on ISIS terrorist bases in the north-western regions of Nigeria. The Nigerian government has issued its official statement regarding this attack.

The government said that it is continuously conducting security and intelligence cooperation with other international partners including the US to combat terrorism and violent extremism. Under this cooperation, terrorist targets in North West Nigeria were precisely targeted through air strikes.

Foreign Ministry issued statement

The Foreign Ministry said that this cooperation is taking place under international rules and bilateral agreements. This includes exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination and other necessary support. All these activities are being carried out in accordance with international law, respect for sovereignty and shared commitments to regional and global security.

The Government of Nigeria reiterated that the main objective of all counter-terrorism efforts is to protect civilians, protect national unity and protect the rights and dignity of all citizens. Terrorist violence against any community, regardless of one’s faith or ethnicity, is an affront to Nigerian values and international peace.

Efforts to weaken terrorist networks

The Federal Government, along with its partners, is making sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and counter threats emanating from across the border. At the same time, Nigeria is strengthening its security institutions and intelligence capabilities. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this security and intelligence cooperation will continue and the public will be regularly informed through appropriate official channels.

It is noteworthy that Nigeria has been facing terrorist violence for a long time. The activities of groups linked to ISIS and organizations like Boko Haram continue in the northern and north-eastern parts of the country.

Child Marriage: Even in 2025, child marriage remains one of the biggest human rights challenges worldwide. Although many countries have taken strict legal and social steps to end the practice, millions of children are still married before the age of 18. Let us know which is the country where child marriages take place the most in the world.

Where in the world do most child marriages take place?

According to the new data of 2025, the highest number of child marriages take place in Niger. About 76% of girls in Niger get married before the age of 18 and about 28% get married before the age of 15. The situation is even more worrying in some places like Maradi. The rate of child marriage here has reached 89%. The legal framework here is behind this crisis. Here the minimum age of marriage for boys is 18 years and the legal age of marriage for girls is only 15 years.

Why are there so many child marriages here?

Extreme poverty plays a large role in maintaining child marriage in Niger and other African countries like it. Families struggling to make ends meet often see early marriage as a way to reduce financial burdens or receive dowry-related benefits. Limited access to education is exacerbating this problem. Because girls who drop out of school are more likely to get married early.

Where else do child marriages take place except Niger?

After Niger, countries like the Central African Republic, Chad and Mali have some of the highest rates of child marriage in the world. Rates have been reported to be around 68% in the Central African Republic, 67% in Chad and 54% in Mali.

What is the situation in India?

Whereas Niger is at the forefront in terms of percentage, India has a different and equally disturbing record. Due to such a large population, India has the highest number of child brides in the world. By 2025, an estimated 22.24 crore women in India were married before the age of 18. In simple words, one out of every three child brides across the world lives in India.

China on Tuesday (November 4, 2025) protested against US President Donald Trump’s threat to take military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians. China supported the Nigerian government in taking the country’s people forward on the path of development in line with national conditions.

Trump threatened Nigeria with action

Trump had said on Saturday that if the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the US will immediately stop all aid to that West African country and may also take military action to eliminate Islamic terrorists.

When asked about Trump’s threat, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said, “The Nigerian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement saying that the US claims do not reflect the current realities of Nigeria. The government is committed to fighting terrorism, strengthening inter-religious harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all its people.”

China protested against America

Mao Ning said that as a comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on a development path in line with national conditions. He said, “China opposes interference by any country in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of religion or human rights and opposes the arbitrary use of sanctions and threats of force.”

Asked about reports of Venezuela demanding missiles and drones following 12 US attacks on boats, Mao said China opposes the use of force in the name of fighting drug traffickers. Mao said, “We hope that the United States will carry out normal law enforcement and judicial activities within the bilateral and multilateral legal framework.” However, he did not disclose whether China would help Venezuela with military equipment.

US President Donald Trump has warned that if large-scale killing of Christians continues in Nigeria, America may deploy troops there or conduct airstrikes. Trump told reporters on Air Force One while returning from Florida on Sunday night that he had instructed the Department of Defense (which he called the Department of War) to be prepared for possible rapid military action.

Trump said, “They are killing Christians in record numbers in Nigeria and we will not let that happen. It will end.” When asked whether American troops could land or there would be an airstrike, he said, “It is possible. I am considering several options.”

Trump had threatened to stop aid

Earlier on Friday, Trump had threatened to stop American aid to Nigeria and had said that if the Nigerian government is unable to protect its Christian community, then America can take direct action with guns-a-blazing. He said, “Christianity in Nigeria is facing an existential crisis and radical Islamic groups are responsible for this.”

This warning of Trump has come after the announcement in which America has again included Nigeria in the list of countries which are violating religious freedom. Countries like China, Russia, Pakistan, North Korea, Myanmar are also included in this list.

Nigeria responded

The Nigerian government has said that it welcomes US help against terrorism, but will not compromise its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Daniel Bwala, an adviser to President Bola Tinubu, said, “We welcome American help, provided it respects our borders and independence.” He also said that Trump’s statement should not be taken too seriously because Trump thinks well of Nigeria.

Nigeria has been in the grip of violence for years

Nigeria has been facing attacks from Islamic terrorist groups Boko Haram and ISWAP for the last several years. At the same time, increasing conflicts between farmers and herders in the northern and central regions of the country have also deepened religious and ethnic tensions. Although Trump’s statement may increase diplomatic tension between the two countries, officials of both the countries are hopeful that cooperation against terrorism and extremism will continue.

US President Donald Trump has given a strict warning to the Nigerian government, saying that if the killings of Christians continue in the country, America will immediately stop the economic aid given to Nigeria. He wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that if the situation does not improve, military action will also be taken if necessary. He further wrote that if the Nigerian government fails to stop the killing of innocent Christians, America will not only stop its aid but may also enter with weapons.

Trump has ordered the US Defense Department to be fully prepared for possible action. He said that if the attack happens, it will be swift, decisive and ruthless like terrorists attack our Christian brothers. He warned the Nigerian government that now America will respond not with words but with actions.

Nigerian government said – the allegations are false and misleading

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rejected Trump’s allegations and said that there is no organized persecution of any religious group in the country. Information Minister Mohammad Idris told the Washington Post that American claims are being exaggerated. The Government of Nigeria is committed to peace and religious harmony.

Christianity in danger in Nigeria

Declaring Nigeria a Special Concern Country, Trump said that the existence of Christians in the country is in crisis. He wrote that thousands of Christians are being murdered. This is a planned genocide and radical Islamic forces are behind it. He directed US MPs Riley Moore and Tom Cole to investigate the issue and said that the report would be submitted soon.

America will not remain silent on atrocities against Christians

Trump said that now America should stand in favor of humanity, it is a crime to remain silent when Christians are being killed all over the world. America will no longer just keep watching, it will take action. His statement has come at a time when Nigeria has recently been included in the special watch list, where cases of religious violence and terrorist attacks are continuously increasing.

US President Donald Trump has said that Christianity in Nigeria is facing an existential threat today. He announced that America has included Nigeria in the Special Watchlist of the State Department. Trump wrote on his Truth Social account that thousands of Christians are being killed in Nigeria. Fundamentalist forces are carrying out genocide against them. Now America is declaring it a country of special concern and this is only the beginning.

The US administration has now placed Nigeria in the category of Countries of Particular Concern (CPC). This list already includes countries like China, Russia, Pakistan, North Korea and Myanmar. A country is included in this category only when serious violations of religious freedom are found there. This does not mean that economic sanctions will be imposed immediately, but it gives the US President the right to take further diplomatic or economic action.

Donald Trump has finally joined the propaganda, and he declared Nigeria as a country of particular concern because of the so called Christian genocide!

This happened because of the carelessness of our government. The FG knows it’s false, yet it turned a blind eye. pic.twitter.com/F2OInSPTyz

Action on violence is necessary-Trump

Trump said he is requesting the Appropriations Committee of the US House of Representatives and lawmakers Riley Moore and Tom Cole to investigate the issue. He wrote, “When thousands of innocent people are being killed in a country like Nigeria just because of their religion, the world should not remain silent. Now is the time to take some concrete steps.”

Religious freedom is safe in our country – Nigeria’s clarification

The Nigerian government completely rejected Trump’s allegations and said that freedom of religion is completely safe in their country and the government does not support violence against any religion. According to the report of American agency AP, Nigeria was earlier included in the US list of special concern in 2020, but it was removed in 2023. Now the Trump administration has included it again, saying attacks on the Christian community have increased.

Increasing religious violence in Nigeria

In the last few years, incidents of attacks on the Christian community have increased rapidly in Nigeria. According to human rights organizations, more than 4,000 Christians were killed and 2,000 churches were targeted last year alone. The two main militant organizations believed to be behind these incidents are Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen Militia. These groups have displaced thousands of people by attacking rural areas.

What is the definition of a country of special concern?

Under the US International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA), a country is declared a country of particular concern when there are systematic violations of religious freedom or religious minorities are being targeted. America can take steps like economic sanctions, trade limits or diplomatic pressure on such countries. However, the final decision depends on the discretion of the President.

What can America do next

After including Nigeria in the monitoring list, America will now prepare a detailed report of the situation there. After this the Trump administration will consider possible economic sanctions and diplomatic steps. Experts believe that this decision is not limited to Nigeria only, but it is part of America’s religious freedom policy in Africa, under which the Trump administration is giving priority to the safety of the Christian community.

Currency Printing: Printing currency is not just a routine task but it is a very strategic decision for any country. Control over currency production ensures security, prevents counterfeiting and also helps control the economy and inflation. Although most countries have the resources and technology to print their own currency, there are some countries which do not print their own currency. Let us know about those countries.

Dependence on foreign currency printers

Many countries are unable to set up modern printing facilities. For this reason they depend on foreign countries for the production of their bank notes. In Asia, the currency of countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is printed in China. China’s advanced machinery, utmost safety measures and huge capacity make it a reliable partner. China prints its own currency, the Yuan, and also meets the needs of neighboring countries by producing their banknotes with accuracy and security. At the same time, India prints its own currency domestically to maintain complete control over security and economic policy.

Africa’s dependence on external printing

There are similar situations in Africa also. Nearly two-thirds of the continent’s 54 countries are completely dependent on foreign printers for their bank notes. Countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania get their currency printed by companies based in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Why do countries choose overseas printing?

Actually printing currency is an expensive and technically demanding process. For this, special paper, high quality ink, security thread, hologram and other security things are required. For small or developing countries, the initial investment and ongoing maintenance of such technology can be very troublesome. By outsourcing the production of currency, these countries can obtain high quality banknotes without the huge costs of domestic production.

What is the danger behind this?

Actually, outsourcing the printing of currency is a very risky task. Whenever a foreign company or country produces bank notes of any country, it gets access to the necessary security details. If no proper security measures are taken then the risk of fraud increases. Therefore, for such work, those countries should be chosen as partners on whom there is complete trust.
