The world’s most expensive Civilian Earth Imaging Satellite Nisar was successfully launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday to monitor the earth. This satellite is created by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) with the American Space Agency NASA.

NISAR (NASA-ISRO synthetic apartheer radar satellite) was told by ISRO in a tweet on social media platform x that 5:40 PM (according to Indian time) has been launched from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. For this, spacecraft of pickup truck size has been used. After reaching the orbit of this satellite, its dual-frequency radar will revolve around the earth 14 times a day. This will scan all land and snow surfaces on the earth every 12 days. This is the first collaboration between ISRO and NASA.

ISRO has a social media platform x Post In told that GSLV-F16 has been launched successfully with NISAR. This will make it easier for scientists to monitor soil moisture. Along with this, threats like landslides and floods can be better assessed. ISRO Chairman, V Narayanan said that this is a major step towards playing India’s leading role in satellite technology. He said, “We were dependent on other countries for satellite technology for many years since the launch of India’s first satellite, Aryabhata. This satellite can also record changes as 1 centimeters on the surface of the earth.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has created a long-wavelend L-band radar for NISAR. The Space Applications Center of India has built the short-wavelend S-band radar of this satellite. From this dual-frequency design, NISAR is the first meaning satellite with two radar systems. This satellite will provide important information about dangers like melting glacier on earth and rising sea levels.

India’s Nasa-Isro Nisar Satellite is going to be launched today. This mission is considered to be a “gamechanger” in Space Science, Earth Observation and Climate Study. America’s NASA and India’s ISRO have partnered for this level high-tech radar satellite for the first time. The specialty of NISAR is its dual-band Synthetic Aperture Radar Technology, which will make the entire Earth’s survey possible every 12 days. Through this satellite, disasters like earthquake, tsunami, landslides will help in many other functions along with alert and mapping. Let’s know what this satellite will do, why it is so important and how can you see its launch live.

What is NISAR Satellite?

NISAR (NASA-Isro Syntic Aperture Radar) is the first sanitary aperture radar satellite that has been designed with two different radar techniques with two different radar techniques. Its main objective is to continuously monitor the Earth’s surface, crops, glaciers, forest areas, beaches and natural disasters.

What will NISAR work?

The specialty of NISAR is its dual-band Synthetic Aperture Radar Technology, which will make the entire Earth’s survey possible every 12 days. Through this satellite:

Earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides alert and mapping of disasters: It will be able to detect the movement of the land, crust change and displacement with great accuracy.

Glacier melting and rising sea level: NISAR will monitor Arctic/Himalayan glacier, which will make global warming monitoring and water resources prevention easier.

Crops and environment/forest health: High-government imaging of satellite will detect crop conditions, erosion, annual forest cover and illegal cuttings.

Wetland and coastal ecosystem protection: Mapping of rivers, wetlands, mangroves, disturb areas.

These data will be available to thousands of researchers, meteorologists and disaster management teams not only in India, but all over the world. With this, better and accurate decisions will be taken in the field of agricultural policy, afforestation, water management, smart cities and disaster preparation in the coming years.

How powerful is Nisar?

This satellite will be launched from India’s Srihari Space Port with an antenna of 8 meters and about 2.8 tons. Its imaging space is so high level that it is still very rare in Space Science to find the capabilities as much as it can record as small changes in the surface of the earth.

When and where will the launch be from?

NISAR will be launched this evening from Indian time (ISRO’s Satish Dhawan Space Center, Andhra Pradesh). This satellite by PSLV-XL rocket will be installed in low-end orbit.

How to see NISAR launch? (How to watch live)

Live Telecast will be made available for free on ISRO’s official YouTube channel and website (isro.gov.in).
There will also be live streaming of launch on NASA’s YouTube channel and nasa.gov/live.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) reported on Sunday (July 27, 2025) that the first Earth Overview satellite (NISAR), created by Space Agencies, India and America, ISRO and NASA, will now be launched on 30 July. This satellite will monitor the changes on the surface of the earth, sea, snow and forests.

NISAR Mission launch date and place

NISAR will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh via GSLV-F16 rocket at 5:40 pm.

What is NISAR Mission?

NISAR (NASA-Isro Syntic Aperture Radar) is an advanced satellite mission that is developed by ISRO and NASA. This satellite will help accurately measure changes in the Earth’s surface, snow, forest and oceans. This satellite will be able to take a picture of the entire earth every 12 days, which will be able to study important aspects like scientific climate change, earthquake, volcano, landslides and melting of glacier. Its data will also be used in farming, disaster management and environmental protection. After the launch, 90 days will be spent in the setup, then it will start work.

What is the purpose of NISAR Mission?

1. Measuring the movement of land and ice.

2. Understanding changes in crops and forests.

3. To study snow from Himalayas, Greenland and Antarctica.

4. Earthquake, volcano, landslide and analysis of changes in groundwater levels

Increased responsibility of both countries

1. ISRO has prepared S-Band radar, satellite structure, data system and launch.

2. NASA has made a 9 meter boom for L-Band radar, GPS receiver, solid-state recorder and 12 meter wide reflector.

3. After the launch, the first 90 days will be called ‘Commissioning Phase’, in which all the equipment will be tested and set.

What is the importance of NISAR mission

According to ISRO, this mission will prove to be a milestone in the Earth’s monitoring technology. Scientists will get data of two different radar techniques from the same platform, so that changes related to environment and climate will be better understood.
