Even today, there are lakhs of such children in the country who, despite being good at studies, leave their studies midway due to financial problems. Especially in villages and small towns, many families are not able to educate their children further after eighth standard. But now a special scheme of the government has come as a hope for such promising students. The name of this scheme is National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS).

This scheme of the Central Government has been started for those students who are fast in studies but the financial condition of the family is weak. Through this scholarship, the government provides financial assistance to the students every year so that they can continue their studies without interruption.

Get 1000 every month

Every year, students selected under NMMSS scheme are given a scholarship of Rs 12,000. That means every month an assistance of Rs 1000 reaches directly into the student’s account. This help is provided from class 9th to 12th. That means a student can get the benefit of this scheme for a maximum of four years. The aim of the government is clear that lack of money should not stop any child from getting education.

Which students get the benefit?

Should be studying in a government school, government aided school, or local body school. At the same time, students of some schools are not considered eligible for this scheme. This includes students studying in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya and private residential schools.

How many numbers are required?

The government has also set some conditions related to studies for this scheme. The student must have at least 55% marks in class 7th. SC and ST category students have been given a relaxation of 5%. This means that hardworking and promising children are being given a chance to move forward.

What should be the family income?

The benefit of this scheme is available only to those families whose financial condition is weak. The total annual income of the student’s parents should not exceed Rs 3.5 lakh. It is necessary to give income certificate at the time of application.

How is the selection done?

To get NMMSS scholarship, students have to appear for an examination. This examination is conducted at the state level and mostly in the month of November. In this, questions related to studies are asked. Students who perform well in this examination are selected for scholarship.
