Hfmd outbreak delhi: Hand, foot and mouth disease cases are increasing rapidly in clinics and hospitals in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida these days. Doctors say that five to six new patients are coming out daily. This viral is spreading rapidly among the viral children, which is identified with fever and rashes (pimples/rashes). However, experts say that in most cases it is a mild infection, but it is very important to be cautious.

What is hand, foot and mouth disease?

HFMD is an infectious viral disease, usually from COXSACIVIRS A16 and Antarovirus-71. The disease spreads from dirty hands, infected surfaces or direct contact. This virus becomes more active during the monsoon season, so cases increase rapidly at this time. This infection spreads quickly among children, especially in places like schools, day-cares and Playgrots.

Symptoms that are cautious

According to doctors, symptoms start appearing 3-5 days after coming in contact with the virus.

• Light to moderate fever
• Sore throat and difficulty swallowing
• Decrease in appetite
• Fatigue or irritability (especially young children)
• Painful blisters or red rash in the mouth
• Red rashes on hands, knees, elbows or buttocks
• Light headache and body pain

Dr. Mohan Bairava, a senior doctor of the Community Medical Medical Department of SMS Medical College, Jaipur, says that “mouth blisters and rashes do not come together. Sometimes it appears in different days. Most children recover in a week to 10 days.”

How does the virus spread?

This virus can spread through saliva, nasal breath, ulcers water and even stool. Children often share toys and surfaces, causing the infection to move from one to another. Dr. Mohan Bairwa explains that “This virus can spread to others before the symptoms of infection are seen. Some children can spread the virus without showing symptoms.”

Who is more in danger?

• Children younger than 5 years are the most affected, as their immunity does not develop completely.
• However, older children, adolescents and adults with weak immunity can also be infected.

Treatment and precautions

No special medicine or vaccine is available for HFMD right now. It is a viral disease, so antibiotics are not affected. Treatment is based mainly on reducing symptoms and relaxing the patient, such as-

• Paracetamol or ibuprofen can be given with doctor’s advice for fever and pain.
• The child should be given enough fluids so that there is no dehydration.
• To reduce throat pain, use lukewarm water or use a spray.
• Avoid spicy, citrus and hot drinks.

This is a threat to viral children spreading rapidly in Delhi-NCR, but even the big immunity people are not able to escape from it. In such a situation, schools, families and society need to be vigilant. Cleanliness, hand washing habit and isolating infected children is currently the biggest defense.
