Infosys involved in large software companies have received relief from the pre-show cause notice related to the Rs 32,403 crore Goods and Services Tax (GST). The Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has stopped the proceedings on this notice given to the company from FY 2018-19 to 2021-22.

Infosys has told the stock exchange in a filing that the matter has ended after getting information from DGGI. The company has said, “In the context of our communication in July and August last year, we are informing that the company has received information from DGGI to discontinue pre-show causes from FY 2018-19 to 2021-22.” The company has said that it received a pre-show cause notice from DGGI on the issue of non-payment of IGST for the period from July 2017 to March 2022 under reverse charge mechanism and Infosys responded to this notice.

The company said, “According to the pre-show causes notice for this period, the GST amount was Rs 32,403 crore. The company was informed about the closure of pre-show causes notice from DGGI in August last year. The matter has ended with the communication of June 6, with the communication of 6 June.”

In the fourth quarter of the previous financial year, Infosys profit has decreased by about 11.75 percent on a year-on-year basis. The company’s estimate of growth in revenue for the current financial year is also indicating increasing competition in this sector. Infosys has estimated up to three percent growth in revenue. However, the company’s margin guidance is estimated at 20-22 percent. In the fourth quarter of the last financial year, Infosys has acquired a profit of about Rs 7,033 crore. This is a decline of about 11.75 percent compared to the same period of the previous financial year. The company has increased by about 7.92 percent to Rs 40,925 crore on a year-by-year basis in the fourth quarter. The figure was Rs 37,923 crore in the same period of the previous financial year. The company had said that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has invested in the Joint Venture Hipus headed by Infosys. This has increased the company’s presence in Japan.

There are difficulties for Ola Electric included in large electric two-wheeler companies. The state government of the company’s stores in Maharashtra is scrutiny due to disturbances about trade certificates. 146 stores were inspected in the state of Ola Electric. Of these, about 121 stores were being run without a trade certificate. 75 of these stores have been closed by the state government.

According to Rule 33 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act and Central Motor Vehicles, manufactures and distributors of vehicles need a business certificate for registration of vehicles. Rules 35 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules states that a separate business certificate has to be taken from the sale of vehicles or the authority of every estabelization, showroom or dealership related to trade. If there is no trade certificate, then action can be taken on the manufacturer and distributor of the vehicle under section 192 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

In February, the government has sought information from Ola Electric for not matching the sale and registration data of the company’s vehicles. Ola Electric had reported that it was sold around 25,000 vehicles in February. However, only about 8,600 registrations of the company’s vehicles were seen on a government portal. The company had said that it is a matter of temporary pending registration.

The new Income Tax Bill has increased the scope of the definition of virtual digital assets (VDAS). It will now also include crypto assets as it represents that value digitally, then a cryptographic secured distributed laser. VDAS has been included in the scope of the definition of ‘undeclared income’ for searching and seizure of the Income Tax Department.

In the last few years, complaints about content on social media have increased rapidly. Rules have also been made by the central government regarding this. The Supreme Court has agreed to investigate the rules related to blocking social media accounts or content. The bench of Justice Br Gavai and Augustine George has sought answers from the government on a petition seeking to reject Rule 16 of the Rules 16 of the Rules of Rules. Notice has been issued by the bench on this petition. Senior Advocate Indirajyasing, appearing by the petitioner software Freedom Law Center, said that no notice was given to the person posing the information and only a notice was sent to social media platforms like X. He said, “The government’s power to remove information has not been challenged. On removing the information, notice should also be given to the person from which the information has been presented on the public platform.”

The petition filed by Advocate Paras Nath Singh challenged the validity of some provisions of these rules. This petition said that by making alternative to issuing a notice of blocking request to the person posing the content, Rule 8 has given the ‘monopoly’ to the authorities to see whether to give notice to the person posing the information. The bench initially said that the person who has a complaint can plead with the court. Along with this, the bench said that if the person can be identified, a notice will be given and if the person who has hosted the information cannot be identified, a notice will be sent to the intermediate.

Regarding this, Justice Gawai said, “Initially we believe that the rule should read in such a way that if a person can be identified, he should be given notice.” When Jaising said that the court would know about social media, Justice Gawai said that he is not on any social media platform.
