This medicine will be effective in reducing obesity in humans. The aim of this partnership is to take anti-obesity therapy to every corner of the world. This is another brand of Wegovy, a medicine to reduce obesity.

Access to medicines will increase among people

Under this deal, Emcure company will handle the business of Poviztra like marketing, commercialization, distribution etc. This will further strengthen Novo Nordisk’s hold in the market and will enable the company to reach more pharmacies and patients, especially in cities or areas where it currently does not have access.

Novo Nordisk launched Wegovy in India in June 2025. Both Poviztra and Wegovy contain Semaglutide 2.4 mg, which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that controls appetite and calorie intake, thereby helping in weight loss.

Obesity is a serious problem for India

Global clinical studies conducted under Novo Nordisk’s STEP and SELECT program found that one in three participants who used semaglutide lost 20 percent more weight. Obesity is becoming a serious problem for India, which is the root of diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, high cholesterol, high BP.

Today every one in ten children i.e. a population of about 18.8 crores is suffering from obesity. According to a report, currently 35 crore people in India are suffering from obesity and by 2050 this figure may go up to 45 crore. In such a situation, this partnership between two companies will help people in controlling their eating habits and losing weight by increasing the availability of medicines.

Weight loss medicine: Obesity is a big problem in today’s time, which is causing diabetes to heart diseases. Keeping this problem of the people, Denmark’s drug company Novo Nordisk launched its weight loss drug in India on Tuesday. Its name is Wegovy, which is an injectable semaglutide.

Medication is available in different doses

Glucagon-like Peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA), once a week, is the first and only drug in India to managing vegovi weight, which reduces the risk of long-term chronic weight management and Major Adversus Cardiovascular Events (MACE). It is a pen -resembling device, which is easy to use. It is available in different doses- 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg.

How much is the price?

The drug starts at Rs 17,345 per pen for 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg, while the price of 1.7 mg is Rs 24,280 per pen and 2.4 mg is priced at Rs 26,015 per pen. The company has said that it is a press conference only medicine. That is, a doctor’s slip will be required for this. Vagovi will improve their quality of life by reducing the weight of millions of Indians suffering from obesity or overweight.

How does Vegovi work?

According to India’s study, India has the third largest population of overweight and obesity. The number of people suffering from normal obesity here is 254 million, while there are 351 million people suffering from abdominal obesity.

Wagovi is a GLP-1 receptor of a kind of protein. This reduces hunger and ends cravings. Eventually, its effect starts appearing on weight. This also improves insulin resistance, which improves cardiometabolic system.
