The Central Government’s National Postgraduate Scholarship (NSPG) scheme has brought great relief for students from economically weaker sections who wish to pursue higher education. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 15,000 is provided every month to eligible students during their Post Graduation (PG) studies.

The objective of this initiative of the government is to encourage meritorious students to continue higher education by providing them financial assistance. Many times, due to financial constraints, students are forced to leave postgraduate level studies midway. This scheme can prove to be very beneficial for such students.

How much scholarship will you get?

Under the National Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, scholarship at the rate of Rs 15,000 per month is given to the selected students. This amount is provided for 10 months in a year. Students can avail the benefits of this scheme for a maximum of two years during the period of their studies. In this way, eligible students can get a total financial assistance of up to Rs 3 lakh in two years, which reduces the cost of their education to a great extent.

Who can apply?

The benefit of this scholarship scheme will be available only to those students who are taking admission in any postgraduate course for the first time. It is necessary for the candidate to be enrolled in a full-time PG course in a recognized institute or university. Apart from this, the age of the applicant should be less than 30 years at the time of application. The government has also set a limit on family income to extend the benefits of the scheme to needy students.

What is the income limit?

The annual income of the family of the student applying under the scheme should not exceed Rs 6 lakh. Eligibility will be checked on the basis of income certificate.

How will the selection be done?

Selection in National Post Graduate Scholarship Scheme will be done on the basis of All India Merit. That is, the merit list will be prepared on the basis of academic performance and prescribed standards of the students applying from across the country. Eligible candidates will be selected according to this merit list. Therefore, students with better academic records have higher chances of selection.

Students will have to apply online for this scheme. Applications are accepted through the National Scholarship Portal. Candidates will have to complete the e-KYC process during application. Along with this, students will have to upload mark sheets, admit card, bank account information and other necessary documents from class 9th to highest qualification.
