NEET UG Result 2026 Controversy: After the release of the results of NEET UG 2026 re-exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is once again embroiled in controversy. Many students are claiming on social media that the marks appearing in their official scorecard are not matching with their OMR sheet and final answer key. Someone has alleged that the OMR sheet was changed, while someone else says that his scores changed within a few hours. Amidst these allegations, NTA, while presenting its stand, said that the matters on which questions have been raised have been investigated and the original OMR sheet present in the records of the agency is correct.

According to NTA, their original OMR sheets had been sent to the concerned candidates on their registered email during the OMR response-key challenge window. The agency claims that some OMR sheets going viral on social media have been digitally altered or prepared with the help of AI. NTA clarified that the results declared in such cases are correct and creating fake OMR sheets, tampering with them or sharing them on social media is a punishable offense under the Public Examinations Act, 2024.

Allegation of changing OMR sheet

According to reports, Dnyaneshwari Pawar, a student from Wadwani, Maharashtra, has alleged that the OMR sheet uploaded on the NTA website is not hers. His father Anil Kumar Pawar says that he has the original question paper used during the examination, which makes him believe that the OMR sheet uploaded on the website is different. The family claims that they had matched their answers with the official answer key of NTA, based on which they should have scored 702 marks out of 720, but only 87 marks appeared in the official scorecard.

Kanpur student claims, numbers changed in two hours

Kanpur student Arya Singh has also alleged technical glitches in the result. He says that earlier the order of questions in the OMR sheet was wrong, about which he had complained to NTA. Later NTA provided revised OMR, but the score remained the same. According to Arya, when she saw the result at around 12 o’clock on the night of July 16, 540 marks were visible, but after opening the website again after about two hours, the score reduced to only 167 marks. At present, only 167 marks are visible on the website. Arya has sent an email in this regard to NTA and the Union Education Minister along with all the documents, demanding an investigation. She says that if proper action is not taken then she will convey her complaint to the President, Prime Minister and Chief Minister.

NTA responded to the allegations

NTA has also given its stand amid the claims being raised on social media regarding OMR sheets and scores. The agency says that the records of the candidates whose cases are going viral on social media have been verified and the original OMR sheets available with NTA are completely correct. According to the agency, their original OMR sheets had been sent to all the concerned candidates on their registered emails during the OMR response-key challenge window. NTA claimed that some OMR sheets being shared on social media have been digitally tampered.

What did NTA say?

According to the agency, the time of signature of the invigilator was changed in the viral OMR sheet of Arya Singh, while in the case of Lakshya Singh, additional answers were filled digitally. At the same time, Abhay Yadav’s claims were also said to not match the records. NTA clarified that Arya Singh’s 167 marks, Lakshya Singh’s 116 and Abhay Yadav’s 164 marks are correct and there is no discrepancy in them as per the official records. The agency has warned that creating fake OMR sheets, tampering with them or spreading them on social media is a punishable offense under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 and legal action will be taken in such cases.

NEET OMR Sheet Controversy: NTA has completed the investigation into the OMR sheet controversy that came to light after the results of NEET UG 2026. The agency says that in the cases where candidates had alleged irregularities in the OMR sheets and huge difference in marks. During investigation, one of the OMR sheets was found to be a fake sheet prepared with the help of AI, while in the other case it was confirmed that the document had been tampered with. After this, NTA made it clear that legal action will be taken against those who submit fake or AI generated documents to defame the examination process.

How did the whole controversy start?

After the result was released, a student in Pune, Maharashtra claimed that he had received two different OMR sheets. According to the student, he had downloaded one OMR sheet from the NTA website on the night of 13th July, while the other was received through email on 15th July. His name was on both the sheets, but the answers recorded in both were different. The student’s father claimed that after matching the first OMR sheet with the official answer key, his son was getting 707 marks, whereas in the declared result he got only 217 marks. Similarly, another student from Beed district of Maharashtra alleged that he was given 95 marks in the official scorecard, whereas on the basis of the final answer key, he should have got 522 marks.

What came to light in the investigation?

After investigating both the cases, NTA said that the OMR sheet submitted by the Pune student was completely prepared with the help of AI. In the case of the Beed student, the agency found that the documents submitted had been tampered with. According to the agency, investigation revealed that the documents did not match the original OMR sheet.

NTA warned of legal action

After completion of the investigation, NTA issued a statement on its official social media platform X saying that the agency is continuously monitoring and investigating all the complaints. NTA has appealed to the students and parents to submit only the original OMR sheets for verification. The agency said that if any complaint is made on the basis of fake or AI generated OMR sheet, then legal action can be taken against the concerned complainant. Amidst this, Congress has also alleged irregularities in the marksheet of a candidate. The party has claimed that the OMR sheet of one candidate was replaced with the sheet of another candidate and has raised questions on the Central Government and the Education Ministry regarding this matter.

Cases of complaints were reported from many states

The OMR controversy was not limited to Maharashtra only, candidates from some other states including Karnataka also alleged that the marks given in their final result did not match with the marks calculated on the basis of the final answer key. Some candidates claimed that due to reduction in their marks there was a big change in their All India Rank. The affected students demanded clarification from NTA and transparency in the evaluation process.
