At present, obesity or increasing belly fat has become one of the most common problems. Children, youth, women and elderly also remain victims of obesity. At the same time, many reporters have also made it clear that obesity is not just a problem of appearance but is also the root of many serious diseases. Experts say that increased fat on the body not only increases the risk of diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer, but it also affects the chances of becoming a mother. In such a situation, let us tell you today how belly fat can become a hindrance in becoming a mother and what experts say about it.

increasing problem of infertility

Earlier the problem of infertility was mostly seen in elderly women. But now young women are also struggling with this. Actually, modern lifestyle, stress, unbalanced eating habits and hormonal imbalance are the main reasons for this. At the same time, experts believe that obesity, especially the fat accumulated around the stomach i.e. belly fat, is also becoming a major cause of infertility in women.

Connection between belly fat and infertility

Many researches have shown that women who have belly fat problem have more reproductive problems. Research conducted on 3,200 women aged 18 to 45 in America has revealed that every extra centimeter of waist fat increases the risk of infertility by about 3 percent. According to research, women whose waist fat was 60 cm had the lowest risk of infertility. Whereas this risk was measured highest in women with waist circumference of 160 cm or more. However, women whose waist measurement was up to 113 cm have reduced the risk to a great extent with the help of exercise and physical activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, moderate level physical activity such as brisk walking, running or cycling increases heart rate and breathing rate. This helps in reducing belly fat and keeping weight under control. A team from China’s Hui Zhou Central People’s Hospital also says that efforts to reduce waist measurement can be helpful in conceiving. If women keep an eye on their waist measurement and increase physical activity regularly, their chances of becoming a mother can increase.

Due to what reasons the problem increases?

According to experts, lifestyle factors like staying awake late at night, consumption of fast food and processed foods, lack of physical activity and obesity worsen the hormonal imbalance of women. This affects ovulation, which is an essential process for conception. At the same time, stress is also a big reason among working women. Due to prolonged stress, periods do not remain regular and the chances of pregnancy decrease.

NHS fertility treatment: One of the biggest problems faced by women around the world is not having a child. There are many countries in the world including India, where people say all kinds of things to women who are unable to become mothers. Many couples take medical help to avoid this problem, but they have to pay a lot of money for it. This is the reason why poor or middle class families are not able to afford it.

Britain is one of those countries where till now the entire cost of infertility treatment has been borne by the government health service system (NHS). All expenses from IVF to delivery are covered by the government. But now the situation seems to be changing. The Clinical Commissioning Group of Bath and North East Somerset area of England has introduced a new plan, according to which if the body mass index (BMI) of a woman’s husband is above 30 i.e. they fall in the category of obesity, then IVF funding will not be given to such couples.

Why did the controversy arise?

NHS managers say they are facing extremely difficult financial circumstances. Therefore this step has to be taken. Their argument is that the chances of pregnancy are reduced in couples affected by obesity. But experts are rejecting this claim. Oxford fertility professor Tim Child described it as “an excuse to limit IVF”. Meanwhile, Sarah Norcross of the campaign group Fertility Fairness said she was “shocked and hurt” by the decision.

New guidelines also under discussion

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has issued new guidelines. In this, it has been recommended to ban many popular “add-on treatments” adopted during IVF. These include endometrial scratch, hysteroscopy and some experimental tests. Experts say that these treatments give false hope to patients and are often administered without any scientific evidence.

What next?

If the NHS moves in this direction, thousands of British couples who were till now enjoying free IVF and delivery facilities, will have to rely on private clinics for treatment. Due to this, the dream of becoming parents of many families may remain unfulfilled. In this way, the people in Britain who were taking advantage of this till now, will now have to pay from their own pockets for the treatment.
