Diwali Bank Holiday: Today is the festival of Diwali on 20th October. The stock market will remain open on this day. Trading will continue as usual from morning to evening. However, now the question arises whether banks will be open or closed today? There is confusion among people regarding this. According to RBI’s bank holiday list for October 2025, banks will remain closed in most cities including Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. However, banks will remain open normally in some cities like Mumbai, Patna and Jammu on October 20.

• Due to Diwali/Narak Chaturdashi/Kali Puja, bank branches will remain closed in these cities today – New Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Agartala, Kanpur, Shimla, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Aizawl, Gangtok, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.
• The cities where bank branches will remain open normally today are Mumbai, Patna, Jammu, Belapur, Imphal, Nagpur and Srinagar.

Banks will remain open in these cities tomorrow

Tomorrow, October 21, banks will remain open in most cities. According to the RBI list, banks will remain closed tomorrow in Mumbai, Bhopal, Belapur, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Jammu, Nagpur, Raipur and Srinagar on the occasion of Diwali Amavasya (Lakshmi Pujan) / Deepawali / Govardhan Puja. On October 21, bank branches in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Agartala, Kanpur, Shimla, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Aizawl, Itanagar, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada, Patna will remain open normally.

The cities that will remain closed on both days (20 October and 21 October) are: Bhopal, Gangtok, Guwahati and Raipur. Banks in Delhi will remain closed today, while banks in Mumbai will remain closed tomorrow.

• 20 October (Monday) – Diwali/Narak Chaturdashi – Banks will remain closed in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat.
• 21 October (Tuesday) – Diwali (Deepawali) – Bank holiday in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan.
• 22 October (Wednesday) – Diwali (Bali Pratipada) / Vikram Samwant New Year Day / Govardhan Puja / Balipadmi, Lakshmi Puja (Deepawali) – Banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
• 23 October (Thursday) – Bhai Bij/Bhai Dooj/Chitragupta Jayanti/Lakshmi Puja (Deepawali)/Bharatrividiya/Ningol Chakkauba – Holiday in banks of Gujarat, Assam, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
• 27 October (Monday) – Chhath Puja (Pratihar Shashthi / Surya Shashthi) – Holiday in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand.
• 28 October (Tuesday) – Chhath Puja – Holiday in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand.
• 31 October (Friday) – Birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – Banks will remain closed in Gujarat.

October Bank Holidays: Banks across the country remained closed on Saturday, October 11 because it was the second Saturday of the month. Today is Sunday holiday. Generally banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturday of the month as well as on Sundays. As per RBI bank holiday rules, banks across India remain closed on these days. Banks are going to open tomorrow i.e. from Monday, but in the meantime banks are going to remain closed for many more days. If you are thinking of going to the bank to do any work, then it is important to know before that when the bank will be closed so that later after reaching the branch, you do not find out that the bank is closed today, this will only waste your time.

21 October (Tuesday) – Banks will remain closed in Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur and Srinagar for Diwali Amavasya (Lakshmi Puja) / Deepawali / Govardhan Puja.

22 October (Wednesday) – Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Shimla due to Diwali (Bali Pratipada) / Vikram Samvant New Year Day / Govardhan Puja / Balipadyami, Lakshmi Puja (Deepawali).

23 October (Thursday) – There will be bank holiday in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Shimla due to Bhai Bij / Bhaidooj / Chitragupt Jayanti / Bhratrividiya / Ningol Chakkouba.

25 October (Saturday) – Banks will remain closed across India due to the weekly holiday of fourth Saturday.

26 October (Sunday) – Banks will remain closed across India due to the weekly holiday of Sunday.

27 October (Monday) – Banks will remain closed in Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi due to Chhath Puja.

28 October (Tuesday) – Banks will remain closed in Patna and Ranchi due to Chhath Puja (morning puja).

31 October (Friday) – Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad due to the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
