Cricket is often called a youth’s game, but some players stepped onto the international stage at such a young age that the world was surprised. While many players make it to the national team after years of hard work in domestic cricket, some have created history by making their One Day International (ODI) debut at school age. Today we are talking about those top-5 youngest players to play ODI, who created history at a very young age.

Hasan Raza – Pakistan

The record of playing ODI at the youngest age in the history of cricket is in the name of Pakistan’s Hasan Raza. He played a match against Zimbabwe in Quetta on 30 October 1996. At that time Hasan’s age was only 14 years and 233 days. Although there was some controversy later regarding his birth certificate, this record is still officially registered. Hasan played only a few matches for Pakistan, but he made an immortal mark in cricket history.

Mohammad Sharif – Bangladesh

Mohammad Sharif made his ODI debut for Bangladesh at the age of 15 years and 116 days in 2001 against Zimbabwe in Harare. Sharif was an all-rounder, who made a place in the team with his swing bowling and lower order batting. However, he could not stay at the international level for long.

Gulshan Jha – Nepal

Nepal’s young fast bowler Gulshan Jha made his ODI debut against America on 17 September 2021 in Al Emirates (Oman). By entering the field at the age of 15 years and 212 days, he became one of the youngest players of Nepal. Gulshan is still an important part of the Nepal team and is considered the future of the country.

Gurdeep Singh – Kenya

Kenya’s Gurdeep Singh made his debut on 4 October 2013 against Afghanistan in Sharjah. At the age of 15 years and 258 days, Gurdeep’s name got registered in the international record book. Although his career did not last long, he created history for Kenyan cricket.

Nitish Kumar – Canada

Canada’s Nitish Kumar made his ODI debut on 18 February 2010 against Afghanistan in Sharjah. He entered international cricket at the age of just 15 years and 273 days. Today he has become an experienced player of the Canadian cricket team and has also handled the captaincy many times.

The player who wins the match in ODI cricket is the one who single-handedly turns the tables. Such players get the “Player of the Match” award, which is the biggest proof of their excellent performance. Let us know about those 5 legends who have won this honor the most number of times in ODI history.

Sachin Tendulkar – 62 times (India)

Sachin Tendulkar, who is called “God of Cricket”, is at the top of this list. In 463 ODI matches played from 1989 to 2012, he won the Player of the Match award 62 times. Each of his awards is related to some memorable innings. Be it the inning of 98 runs against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup or the “Desert Storm” inning played in Sharjah. This record of Tendulkar is unbreakable even today and will probably remain so for a long time.

Sanath Jayasuriya – 48 times (Sri Lanka)

Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka changed the definition of opening batting. He won this award 48 times in 445 ODIs played from 1989 to 2011. Jayasuriya was not only a batsman but also a useful spinner. His aggressive batting in the 1996 World Cup made Sri Lanka win the World Cup for the first time.

Virat Kohli – 43 times (India)

India’s current legend Virat Kohli is continuously moving up in this list. In the 305 ODIs played since 2008, he has won the Player of the Match award 43 times. Kohli’s innings is often considered the perfect class of run-chase. He has more than 46 ODI centuries to his name, and he comes on the field to win every match.

Jacques Kallis – 32 times (South Africa)

The name of South Africa’s great all-rounder Jacques Kallis is also included in this list. He won this award 32 times in 328 ODI matches. His ability to make an impact with both bat and ball made him one of the most balanced players in modern cricket.

Ricky Ponting – 32 times (Australia)

Ricky Ponting won two World Cups for Australia and changed many matches with his captaincy and batting. In 375 ODI matches, he won the Player of the Match title 32 times, which also includes many knockout matches.

Ind vs SA in ODI: ODI matches between India and South Africa have always been full of thrill. Both the teams have such batting lineup which is capable of scoring runs on any pitch. Many high-scoring matches have been played between this pair so far, in which a lot of fireworks were seen with the bat. Let’s take a look at the biggest scores made in the ODI history of India vs South Africa, in which the spectators got to see a rain of runs.

South Africa – 438/4 (Mumbai, 2015)

This match was played on 25 October 2015 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Thanks to the stormy innings of AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock, South Africa had scored 438 runs in 50 overs. Indian bowlers were badly beaten in this match. In reply, India could score only 224 runs and lost the match by 214 runs. This is South Africa’s biggest ODI score against India so far.

India – 401/3 (Gwalior, 2010)

Indian fans can never forget the day of 24 February 2010. That day, Sachin Tendulkar created history in ODI cricket by scoring the first double century (200 not out). India scored a huge score of 401 runs against South Africa in Gwalior. Dhoni and Sehwag also batted brilliantly in that match. India won this match by 153 runs.

South Africa – 365/2 (Ahmedabad, 2010)

In 2010 itself, another explosive match was seen when South Africa made a mountain-like score of 365 runs in Ahmedabad. AB de Villiers had scored a brilliant century here. The Indian team could not even cross 200 runs in reply and South Africa won the match unilaterally.

South Africa – 358/4 (Johannesburg, 2013)

Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock had thrashed the Indian bowlers on the bouncy pitch of Johannesburg. Thanks to his batting, South Africa had scored a mountain of 358 runs and defeated India by 141 runs.

India – 331/7 (Cardiff, 2013)

In the Champions Trophy 2013, India made a strong score of 331 runs at Cardiff ground. In this match, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli scored brilliant half-centuries and put the South African bowlers under pressure. India won this match by 26 runs.

ODI Record: The role of a wicketkeeper in ODI cricket is not limited to just catching or stopping the ball. Many times a quick stumping changes the course of the match. Many great wicketkeepers have appeared in this format, but some have made a special mark with their agility and lightning-fast glove work. Let us know who are the 5 wicketkeepers in the history of ODI cricket who have done the most stumpings.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni – India

Indian legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni is at the top of this list. He has made a total of 123 stumpings in 350 ODI matches played from 2004 to 2019. Dhoni is known for his lightning-fast reflexes and intelligence. He also took 321 catches in his T20 career and made a total of 444 dismissals behind the wicket. His best record has been 6 dismissals (5 catches, 1 stumping) in an innings.

Kumar Sangakkara – Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s great wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara is at second place. He made 99 stumpings in 404 matches between 2000 and 2015. Sangakkara was known for his technique, fitness and smart wicketkeeping. His sharp vision and coordination with the bowlers have made him one of the best wicketkeepers in cricket history.

Romesh Kaluwitharna – Sri Lanka

In the 90s, Sri Lanka’s aggressive wicketkeeper Romesh Kaluwitharna made 75 stumpings in 189 matches. His pairing with great spinners like Muralitharan was amazing. Kaluwitharna’s quick stumpings forced the batsmen to return to the pavilion many times.

Moin Khan – Pakistan

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan has made 73 stumpings in his career from 1990 to 2004. He also took 214 catches and completed a total of 287 dismissals. Moin was known for his loud voice and combative nature. His stumpings were especially the result of his excellent coordination with the spinners.

Mushfiqur Rahim – Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s experienced wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim has made 56 stumpings in 274 ODI matches so far (2006–2025) and has secured 5th position in this list. He has made a total of 297 dismissals by taking 243 catches in his career. Mushfiqur remains the backbone of the Bangladesh team with his calm nature and reliable wicketkeeping.

Head has now become the fastest batsman for Australia to score 3000 ODI runs, earlier this record was in the name of Steve Smith. Smith has now retired from ODI. Steve Smith had completed 3000 runs in the 79th innings, this was Head’s 76th innings.

Let us tell you that the fastest batsman in the world to complete 3000 ODI runs is Hashim Amla. This legendary South African batsman had touched this figure in 57 innings. The fastest batsman to complete 3000 ODI runs for India is Shikhar Dhawan, Dhawan completed 3000 ODI runs in the 72nd innings.

India has lost the series

Australia has already been named the host of 3 ODI matches. Australia won the rain-affected match in Perth by 7 wickets. In the second match, Australia won by 2 wickets and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Today Shubman Gill and team are fighting for respect, it has never happened in history when Australia has clean swept India in an ODI series in Australia. India would like to avoid this unwanted record by winning the third ODI. Virat Kohli has been out for zero in both the matches of this series, today a match-winning inning is expected from him.

In the history of Indian cricket, many legendary players have taken command of Team India in the ODI format. Some of these captains took the team to new heights with their leadership, while some had to taste the bitter taste of defeat during their tenure. While some captains are remembered for their strategy and calm nature in ODI, the defeats suffered by some remain a topic of discussion even today. Let us know about those top-5 Indian captains who lost the most ODI matches.

Mohammad Azharuddin

Mohammad Azharuddin’s name is counted among the most experienced captains in the history of Indian cricket. He captained India in 174 ODI matches, losing 76 and winning 90. Under the captaincy of Azharuddin in the 90s, India recorded many memorable victories, but the team’s performance on foreign soil remained unstable. He gave a new fitness and fielding approach to the team. At that time the team was going through transition, the effect of which was visible in many matches.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni

‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni may be counted among India’s most successful and World Cup winning captains, but statistics show that while captaining in 200 ODIs, he has lost 74 matches. Due to his long career and playing more matches, his name comes second in this list.

Sourav Ganguly

The era of Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as ‘Dada’, is considered to be the beginning of the aggressive era in Indian cricket. He captained India in 146 ODI matches, out of which 65 were lost. However, under his leadership, India stopped being afraid of foreign soil and achieved many memorable victories. Ganguly’s captaincy taught the team confidence and aggression.

Sachin Tendulkar

‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar had a brilliant career as a batsman, but his performance in terms of captaincy was not special. He took command of the team in 73 ODI matches, out of which 43 were defeated. The burden of captaincy also seemed to affect his batting performance.

Kapil Dev

The name of Kapil Dev, who won the 1983 World Cup for India, is also included in this list. He captained the Indian team in 74 ODI matches. It lost 33 matches and won 39. Under the captaincy of Kapil, India made its mark in the world of cricket, even though the number of their defeats was a bit high.

When it comes to records in ODI cricket, the first thing that comes to mind...

When it comes to records in ODI cricket, the first thing that comes to mind is Hitman Rohit Sharma’s unmatched record of 264 runs, which remained an ‘unbreakable record’ for the world for years, but now an Indian batsman has created history by breaking this great record. This batsman is none other than Narayan Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu, who created such a blast in the domestic ODI that the whole world was stunned.

277 runs on 141 balls, left Rohit behind

Jagadishan played a brilliant inning of 277 runs in just 141 balls in List A cricket. During this period, 25 fours and 15 sixes came from his bat. That means almost one boundary in every over! With this brilliant innings he left behind Rohit Sharma’s record of 264 runs. Although this inning came in a domestic tournament and not an international one, such a big score has brought him straight into the center of headlines.

Tamil Nadu scored 506 runs, created a new team record

In this match, Tamil Nadu team scored a total of 506 runs, which is the highest team score so far in Indian domestic cricket. Apart from Narayan Jagadishan, Sai Sudarshan also played a brilliant inning of 154 runs in this match. Together, both the batsmen made a huge partnership of 416 runs and registered Tamil Nadu in the pages of history.

Jagadishan is standing at the door of debut

Jagadishan’s performance in domestic cricket has been consistently excellent. He has impressed the selectors with both his class and temperament in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and IPL. This is the reason why recently he was included in the squad of the Indian Test team, although he has not been able to make his international debut yet.

Jagadeesan’s combination of technique, composure and aggression makes him a future star batsman. Cricket experts believe that if he gets a chance in Team India’s ODI team soon, then he can play the same explosive innings on the big stage as he has played at the domestic level.

IND vs AUS: ODI matches between India and Australia are always full of thrill and intense competition. While the batsmen have created a stir many times, the bowlers have also changed the course of the match with their sharp bowling. If we talk about the bowlers who have taken the most wickets in India vs Australia ODI history, then the name of Australian fast bowler Brett Lee comes at the top in this list.

brett lee

Former Australian speed star Brett Lee has always wreaked havoc against India. Brett Lee took 55 wickets in 32 matches played between 2000 and 2012. His best performance during this period was 5/27. Brett Lee’s average was 21.00 and economy rate was 4.49, which shows that he not only took wickets but also kept the runs under control. Indian batsmen have had to face difficulties many times due to his fast and bouncy balls.

Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev from the Indian team is at second place in this list. He has taken 45 wickets in 41 matches played from 1980 to 1994. His best performance during this period was 5/43. Kapil repeatedly troubled the Australian batsmen with his swing and line-length. The excellent economy rate of 3.67 shows that he was not only a wicket taker but also a very economical bowler.

Michelle Johnson

Australia’s left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Johnson remained a headache for Indian batsmen from 2006 to 2015. He took 43 wickets in 27 matches. His best performance against India was 5/26. Johnson has many times destroyed the Indian top order with his pace and aggression.

steve waugh

Australia’s great captain Steve Waugh was amazing not only in batting but also in bowling. He took 43 wickets in 53 matches played against India, in which 4/40 was his best performance. His bowling was used strategically, and many times he has given wickets to his team at crucial times.

Mohammed Shami

India’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami 2013 From 2025 played till 26 in matches 42 took wickets in his name, His best figures during this period 5 taking wickets 51 runs to spend, Although their economy rate 6.00 remained, But he surprised the Australian batsmen many times with his sharp yorker and reverse swing.,

ODI Record: The Indian cricket team has always been known for its batting, but with time the bowlers of Team India have also shown their mettle. There was a time when Indian bowlers were seen struggling on foreign soil, but now Indian pacers and spinners have the ability to turn the match in every situation. Let us look at those Indian bowlers who have created history by taking the most wickets in an ODI series.

Mohammed Shami – 24 wickets (World Cup 2023, India)

Mohammed Shami had done wonders in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He took 24 wickets in just 7 matches and played a big role in taking Team India to the finals. His best performance was 57 runs for 7 wickets. Shami’s average (10.70) and strike rate (12.2) both remained unmatched in this tournament.

Zaheer Khan – 21 wickets (World Cup 2011)

India’s 2011 World Cup hero Zaheer Khan took 21 wickets in 9 matches in that tournament. He showed excellent control with the new and old ball. His bowling played an important role in India winning the World Cup after 28 years. His best figure was 3/20 and his economy rate was only 4.83.

Jasprit Bumrah – 20 wickets (World Cup 2023, India)

In the 2023 World Cup itself, Jasprit Bumrah troubled the batsmen with his precise line-length and discipline. He took 20 wickets in 11 matches and during this his average was 18.65. Bumrah’s economy rate (4.06) was one of the most economical bowlers of the tournament.

Kapil Dev – 20 wickets (Australia, 1985/86)

Team India’s first World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev bowled brilliantly in the 1985/86 Benson & Hedges World Series and took 20 wickets in 12 matches. At that time his fast and bouncy bowling had troubled the foreign batsmen. During this period his average was 19.55 and economy rate was 3.46.

Javagal Srinath – 18 wickets (New Zealand tour 2002/03)

In 2003, Javagal Srinath bowled brilliantly on the fast and cold pitches of New Zealand. He had taken 18 wickets in 7 matches. During this period his average was 11.16 and economy rate was 3.03, which was extraordinary in that period.

In ODI cricket, of course batsmen can play a little, but still it is very difficult for a bowler to throw the entire over without giving any runs.
