Due to the continuously increasing temperature and hot winds in Odisha, the state government has taken a big step. The government has declared summer holidays ahead of schedule and issued an order to close all schools from April 27, 2026. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the health, safety of children and providing relief from the increasing heat. There is intense heat and heat like conditions in many areas of the state, due to which normal life is also being affected.

School holidays apply from 27th April

Following the instructions of the state government, all government, aided and private schools in Odisha will be closed from April 27. On the recommendation of the Education Department, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved this proposal. After this, instructions have been given to the concerned departments to immediately implement the order. Lakhs of students and parents studying in schools are expected to get relief from this.

Decision taken due to heat and heat wave

Temperatures are continuously being recorded above 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in some areas may reach 45 degrees in the coming days. In view of such situation, it was decided to close the schools prematurely. The administration believes that it is very important to protect small children from the scorching heat. The government has made it clear that the pre-scheduled examinations will be conducted as per their schedule. Apart from this, important administrative work, office procedures and other government work will continue as before.

Every year there were holidays in May.

Usually, summer holidays in the state used to start after the first week of May, but this time due to extreme heat in April itself, the holidays have been declared earlier. The sudden heat in the weather forced the government to take this decision. Keeping in mind the safety of children, the state government is also considering temporarily closing Anganwadi centres. A plan is being made to deliver ration and nutritional materials to the needy children from door to door. Instructions have also been given to the officials to make preparations in this regard.
