Ola Uber Rapido Drivers Strike: If you are planning to step out for a trip on Saturday, February 7, 2026, you will have to be extra cautious, as on that day, app-based cab and bike taxi drivers like Ola, Uber and Rapido will be on a six-hour strike across the country. Due to this strike, cab and bike taxi services from big cities to many small towns may be partially or completely affected, due to which passengers may face difficulties in reaching offices, airports, railway stations or other important places.

Why was the strike called?

The strike has been called by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), which represents app-based transport workers across the country. The union says that on February 7, the drivers working on the app will unite and stop work against the unethical pricing system and weak government regulations. In a post shared on social media, the union has clarified that despite the implementation of Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2025, aggregator companies are arbitrarily fixing fares, which is directly affecting the income of drivers.

The main demand of the union is that the government should notify the minimum fare, so that the drivers can get a fixed and respectable income on every ride. Along with this, there has also been a demand for strictness on the use of private vehicles for commercial rides. The union alleges that providing commercial rides through private vehicles is creating unethical competition, which is putting both the earnings and employment of licensed and rule-following drivers at risk.

What is the fear of the union?

According to the union, due to non-fixation of minimum fare, drivers’ income is continuously decreasing and they are facing increasing economic instability. For many drivers, this is their only means of livelihood, so rising costs, fuel prices and low fares are making it difficult for them to survive. Announcing the strike on social media platform ‘X’, the union said, “No minimum fair, no regulation – stop exploitation,” and appealed to app-based transport workers across the country to join the strike.

This strike may also affect passengers, hence people are being advised to make advance arrangements for alternative means of transport or change their travel plans.
