New Zealand, who came to bat after losing the toss in the only Test being played against Ireland, declared its first innings by scoring 490 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in the first session of the second day. At the end of the first session of the second day, Ireland had lost 2 wickets for 20 runs.

New Zealand started the second day’s play with 361 runs for 5 wickets. The Kiwi team was eyeing Tom Blundell’s double century and Dean Foxcroft’s century. Both the batsmen failed to achieve these achievements.

Blundell was out after scoring 186 runs in 292 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 22 fours. Whereas Dean Foxcroft was out after scoring 98 runs in 129 balls. As soon as Foxcroft was out as the 8th wicket, Kiwi captain Tom Latham declared the innings at 490 runs. Foxcroft missed the chance to score a century in his first Test.

Earlier on Wednesday, Rachin Ravindra had scored a brilliant century on the first day of the Test. This young all-rounder, who bats with the left hand, had played an innings of 121 runs in 194 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 11 fours.

For Ireland, Mark Adair got 3 wickets, Ribun Wilson, Liam McCarthy, Harry Tactor and Andy McBrine got 1 wicket each.

In reply to 490 runs, Ireland’s start was very disappointing. By the end of the first session of the second day, Ireland had lost 2 wickets at the score of 20. Opener Stephen Doheny was out on zero and Cade Carmichael was out on zero. Captain Andrew Balbirnie (11) and Harry Tactor (8) are trying to handle Ireland, which has lost 2 wickets for zero.
