A23, an online gaming company in India, has knocked on the Karnataka High Court on Thursday (August 28, 2025) challenging the ban on the Modi government’s online-based sports. After signing on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu, this first petition has been filed in the court against this law. Since the enactment of this law, popular competitions of many online gaming platforms suddenly stopped and the future of the online gaming industry also became uncertain.

Real-money online gaming business was shocked when Parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. Under this bill, all types of money-based online games have been banned. On the other hand, e-spormers and online social games have been promoted.

After getting approval from President Draupadi Murmu, this bill has now become a law. The purpose of which is to curb cases of increasing drugs, money laundering and financial fraud through such apps.

Online gaming platforms closed real money games

After the passage of this bill from Parliament, online gaming platforms such as Dream 11, Mai 11 Circle, Vinjo, Jupi and Pokering of Darsara Technology have shut down their real money offer.

According to a report by Reuters, A23 is a gaming platform that provides online to sports like Rummi and Poker. In the petition filed in the Karnataka High Court, A23 said, “This law puts the legitimate business of playing online game based on skills in the category of crime. Many online gaming companies may have to stop overnight.”

A23 also said in its petition that the new law is the result of the mentality to be the state owner. This law has been applied to sports with skills like Rummi and Poker, which should be declared unconstitutional. However, the IT Ministry has not yet responded to the matter.
