AIIMS Dual Organ Transplant After 18 Years: After 18 years, a surgery took place at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, which gave a new life to a 30-year-old young man. The condition of this patient, who was suffering from Type-1 diabetes for a long time, had become so serious that he had to live with the help of dialysis for the last two years. But the decision of the family of a brain dead donor changed his life completely. For the first time, doctors in AIIMS gave new life to the patient by simultaneously transplanting pancreas and kidney.

This kind of work happened after 18 years

This dual organ transplant was done in AIIMS after 18 years. The patient was suffering from end-stage renal disease, which was caused by long-standing type-1 diabetes. In this disease, the kidneys gradually stop functioning and the patient has to resort to dialysis along with insulin. The patient received both the organs from a 50-year-old brain dead donor, whose organs were donated at PGI Rohtak.

Read this also – Heart Fights Cancer: The heart is beating, that is, it is fighting cancer, new study gives hope

Transplant proved to be life changing for the patient

Dr. Asuri Krishna, Professor, Department of Surgery, AIIMS Delhi, said that this transplant proved to be life-changing for the patient. After the surgery, the patient now requires very less amount of insulin. Earlier he could not even walk properly, but now his condition is much better and he is returning to a normal life.

Which patients have simultaneous pancreas-kidney?

According to doctors, simultaneous pancreas-kidney spree is done for those patients who are facing severe kidney failure along with type-1 diabetes. In this procedure, healthy pancreas and kidney are transplanted simultaneously. Its biggest advantage is that the patient gets rid of dialysis and in many cases the need for insulin injection is almost eliminated.

Dr. Asuri Krishna said that this type of surgery had not been done in AIIMS for the last 18 years. The main reason for this was very less organ donation in North India and lack of trained transplant surgeons. After the first surgery in 2008, some experts left the institute, after which it took time to train new doctors and identify the right patient.

Increase in the number of type 1 diabetes patients

Experts say that the age of Type-1 diabetes patients is increasing more than before, due to which the number of such patients is also increasing who require transplant of both kidney and pancreas in future. In such a situation, this successful surgery is not only a medical achievement but is also being considered a great example of the importance of organ donation.

Harish Rana Organ Donation: After the euthanasia of 31-year-old Harish Rana, a news has come out which has once again brought the importance of organ donation into discussion. In fact, doctors at AIIMS Delhi have confirmed that his cornea and heart valve have been successfully removed and saved for transplant. This decision was taken as per the wish of his parents that their son’s life could become a hope for others.

According to doctors, a person can regain his sight through cornea transplant. At the same time, heart valve can give new life to those patients who need heart surgery. Experts say that sometimes the entire organ cannot be used, but its parts also play a very important role in saving the lives of others.

Also read: Why is it important to change diet at the age of 40? Know the secret of keeping the brain healthy

What is heart valve retrieval?

According to doctors, hard valve retrieval is a process in which valves are removed from the heart of a person declared brain dead. This process is possible only when the heart is not completely suitable for transplant. He told that the heart or its vital parts are carefully removed by taking the donor to the operation theatre. The pumping capacity of the heart may not be completely useful, but its valves can be preserved and used in the treatment of other patients.

How are heart valves protected?

According to experts, if immediate transplant is not possible then the valve is kept safe through cryopreservation technique at a temperature of -180 degrees Celsius. In this way these valves can remain safe for use for about 5 years.

How is the transplant process?

The valves removed from the heart are taken to the valve bank of the institute. Where experts separate the aortic and pulmonary valves in 10 to 15 minutes. After this, they are prepared in a special way, so that they can be transplanted into another patient. These valves are especially used in serious surgeries, cases of infection and in the treatment of children. The special thing is that the valve of an older person can be made smaller and adapted to the body of children.

How does a cornea transplant help?

Doctors say that brain dead persons are suitable for donating eyes. Because the cornea remains protected for some time even without blood circulation. In such a situation, it can be removed in time and transplanted into another patient. Due to which his eyesight can be restored. According to AIIMS doctors, three to four such cases come up every month where heart valve retrieval and transplant is done. This number may be small, but it makes it clear how organ donation can give new life to a large number of people.

How Does Organ Donation and Transplantation Work: In Kerala, 10 month old innocent girl Aalin Sherin Abraham has set an example. She became the youngest donor. The mortal remains of this girl were earlier kept in the mortuary of a private hospital in Mallappally. Later it was brought to his house in West Valummanil for the last darshan, where people from far and wide came to pay homage. The last rites were performed with full state honours.

Even though Aalin left this world, she left behind new light in four lives. His organ donation gave life to patients suffering from serious illness. This is the real power of organ donation and transplant. Let us tell you how it works?

What is organ donation?

According to clevelandclinic, a website that provides information on health topics, organ donation is a process in which a healthy organ of a person is removed and transplanted into the body of a patient whose organ has stopped functioning. This is a very sensitive and time-related medical procedure. Usually two surgeries take place almost simultaneously, in one the organ is removed from the donor’s body and in the other the organ is transplanted into the body of the needy patient.

How many types of organ donation are there?

There are two types of organ donation, donation done after death and donation done by a living person. In most of the cases, organ donation is done with the consent of the family after confirmation of brain death. A living person can also donate some organs like kidney, provided his health is completely fine and his organ is compatible with the body of the needy patient. After death, organs like heart, liver, kidney, lungs, pancreas and intestine can be donated. Apart from this, eyes, skin, bone marrow and heart can also be donated.

Who is a donor?

According to doctors, almost every person can be a potential organ donor. Health of organs and medical examination is more important than age. A decision taken at the right time can give a second life to many people. The process of organ donation and transplant is not easy. It passes through many stages. It begins with the decision to donate and ends with the medical process in which a healthy organ is removed from one person and successfully transplanted into another person’s body. This process depends on whether the organ donor is alive or has been donated after death.

There is very little time for organ donation after death, because it is necessary to safely remove the organs within a few hours of death. If there is a delay, the usefulness of the organs may be reduced. Whereas in the case of living donor, the work is done with complete preparation and planning. In this, special attention is paid to health check-up, necessary consent and security measures.

It is often believed that as soon as the heartbeat stops, all the body parts stop working together, but medical science says something else. According to doctors, after death, different parts of the body remain active for different periods of time. It depends on how much oxygen that organ needs and how quickly it deteriorates.

Every organ has its own life

The lifespan of all parts of the human body is different. The heart can usually survive for 4 to 6 hours after death, while the lungs can remain usable for 4 to 8 hours. The liver remains protected for about 8 to 12 hours. Eyes are considered suitable for transplant for about 4 to 6 hours. The skin can be protected for up to 24 hours, while some organs last even longer.

Which organ survives the longest?

According to doctors, the kidney survives the longest in the human body after death. The kidney can remain in working condition for about 24 to 36 hours. This is the reason why it is considered the most durable part of the body. Kidneys can be successfully transplanted by keeping them protected in the right temperature and condition.

Why is kidney transplant more successful?

The ability to preserve the kidney for a long time is the biggest reason for the success of kidney transplant. Apart from this, the role of kidney is very important in the body, because it works to purify the blood and remove toxic elements from the body. This is why kidney transplant is among the most commonly performed organ transplants worldwide.

How do organs remain useful even after death?

Even when a person dies, some of his organs are not completely inactive. These organs are removed at the right time and preserved under special circumstances. This entire process is called organ transplantation. Through this, a dead person can give new life to many needy patients.

On what factors does the survival of organs depend?

How long the organs will remain alive after death depends on many things. Like what was the cause of death, what was the temperature of the body, how quickly the organ was preserved and what kind of medical facilities it received. Therefore the time mentioned above is considered approximate and not the exact time.

Till now, if the deceased person has had diabetes or high blood pressure in the case of organ donation, then his limbs were rarely accepted for transplant. But recently, the Indian Society for Organ Transplantation (ISOT) has released a detailed report for the first time that such organs can be used, provided they are in the right condition and live up to medical standards.

What was said in the report

ISOT report, which has been published in Lancet Regional – South -East Asia, states that India does not have such sufficient data. But according to international data, 15-20 percent of the deceased organists have high blood pressure and 2-8 percent diabetes. Evidence from USRRDs and UNOS databases of the US suggests that in these cases the risk of primary non-function, acute rejections or delayed graft function (DGF) may increase slightly after kidney transplant. However, overall, the effect on graft survival is minor.

In a conversation with Times of India, Dr. Dinesh Khullar, senior nephrologist and co-writer of the ISOT report, said, “On the basis that the deceased was diabetes, it is wrong to dismiss the organ immediately. Our team has suggested a screening criterion, so that the diabetes is safe for using the diabetic donor or not. Evaluate the position of the resipient separately and then decide. “

Impact of diabetes and high BP

Uncontrolled diabetes damages the kidney blood vessels over time, which can reduce the ability to filter the kidney. At the same time, high blood pressure also weakens it by increasing the pressure on the kidney. Despite this, organ is not unusable in all cases. Many times the organs are also completely healthy.

Dr. Shiv Sarin, director of the Institute of Liver and Beller Sciences, also told Times of India, “Diabetes, high blood pressure or even the organs of the deceased donors who have history of cancer can also be used for transplant, but every case is necessary. Should, because in one-third of cases, the liver can be used to take care of the kidney from high BP donor.

Why this change is necessary

Experts believe that this new thinking may increase the number of organ donation. With this, thousands of patients sitting in waiting for transplant will get new life. However, it is necessary that strict medical testing and personal case-case should be evaluated before the transplant.

Human body is not less than a machine. Even if a person is declared medically dead, even all the parts of his body do not stop working immediately. It has become possible from the process of modern medical science and organ donation that even after death, some organs are given new life to the needy. This process is mainly possible in the case of people declared brain dead, as blood circulation and oxygen supply in their body is maintained by artificial means, so that the organs can be kept alive for some time.

Which organs live after death?

The life period of different organs is different, which is directly related to the time limit of their transplant. After removing the organs from the body, they are kept in special solution and at cold temperatures so that their functionality is maintained.

Here is the estimated time frame of some major limbs and their transplant.

Heart: The heart is one of the most sensitive organs. It is considered best to transplant within 4 to 6 hours after death.

lungs: The lungs also need to transplant within 4 to 6 hours similar to the heart. They are also highly sensitive to time.

Liver: The liver can be kept safe for 8 to 12 hours for transplant. Its comparatively long period makes it more favorable for long distances transport.

Pancreas: The pancreatic can usually be used for transplant from 12 to 18 hours. According to some sources, it can also be up to 24 hours.

Intestons: It is necessary to transplant the intestines within 8 to 16 hours.

kidney: Kidney is one of the longest surviving important organs. It can be protected for transplant from 24 to 36 hours after death, in some cases even for 72 hours. This is why the number of kidney transplant is higher than other organs.

Eyes: The cornea of the eye can be extracted within 6 to 8 hours after death. However, the cornea tissue can be stored for 14 days after removing, which gives more time for transplant.

skin: Skin tissue can be extracted within 24 hours after death and it can be stored up to 5 years after a special process.

Bones: The bones can also be stored for 5 years within 24 hours.

Heart Valve: Heart valves can be removed after death and can be stored for 10 years.

Organ donation process and challenges

Donation of vital organs is possible only when the person has been declared ‘brain dead’ in the hospital and kept on ventilator support. This is so that the organs get oxygen and they are viable. If a person dies due to stopping at home or heart rate, then the donation of his vital organs is usually not possible, because the organs are damaged in a few minutes due to lack of oxygen. Time is very important in transplantation of organs, which is called cold ischemia time. During this time, the organ is taken out of the body and kept in a cold environment. The less time it takes in this process. The success rate of transplant is equally better.

Ang donation is a life -saving work. It is important to understand that even after death some of our organs live for some time and they can give precious gifts of life to someone else. Due to the progress and quick response systems of medical science, it has now been possible that these organs can be transplanted successfully, giving thousands of people new expectations.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Organ donation means organ donation, medium to give life to someone. A dead person can give new life to people. According to a report, every year 5 lakh people in the country need an organ transplant, while only 52 thousand organisms are available. Recently, an 84 -year -old woman donated a kidney to her 46 -year -old daughter at a Fesam Hospital in Jaipur. After this, a question has again arisen in the mind that till what age the organ can be donated? And what are the guidelines of the government regarding this? Let us know the answers to these questions …

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> How long can you donate organ donation?

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Experts say that donating any organ is the advantage only when that organ is perfectly fit. A healthy organ can be given new life to another person. It depends on what is the condition of the person’s organ. If the organ of a 30 -year -old person is not doing a better job, then it cannot be used for transplant, but if the orgon of a 65 -year -old person is healthy, then he can also be donated. Recently, the government has also changed the policy regarding organ donate. According to guidelines of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (Noto), people above 65 years of age were banned on taking organ, which has been lifted. The government decided to abolish this age limit. Now you will be able to register to take any age person organs.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Kein-Donate can be organized?

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> The heart, lungs, liver, kidney, intestine, pancreas of the dead person can be donated. Eye cornea, bone & zwnj; D, skin, vein, muscles, gendercasting, cartilage, heart valve and tendon can also be useful for someone after death. Alive humans can donate some part of the entire kidney and liver. & Nbsp;

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Who people can’t do organ donate?

<li style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Organ donation cannot be done in serious diseases like heart disease or cancer.

<li style ="Text-Align: justify;"> If the limb is not working properly when the age is not working, then the limb cannot donate.

<li style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Infectious diseases such as HIV or hepatitis can not donate organs.

<li style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Mentally sick humans cannot donate organ.

<li style ="Text-Align: justify;"> If there is a legally hurdle or is not legally eligible, then the limb donation cannot be done.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> How long after death?

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> After the state of the brain being dead, the lack of oxygen in the body starts occurring & nbsp; Without this, no organ can function in the body. Therefore, the organs are donated as soon as possible after death. After taking it out of the body, the necessary oxygen supply has to be given. So that he can stay in the same position before.

China Organ Donation: The ‘Jeevan, Asha – 2025 National Human Ang Daan Sansarotsav and Promotion Ceremony’ was recently organized at the Hefing Complex of Wolong Cemetery in Sheenang city of China and China Medical University. This program highlighted the importance of human organ donation in society and its human aspects.

It was told in this event that the number of voluntary organ donation registration in China has exceeded 70.5 lakhs. So far, after the death of citizens, more than 58 thousand organs, 63 thousand bodies and 1.1 lakh cornea have been donated. Due to these efforts, the lives of 1.7 lakh patients suffering from organ failure have been saved and 1 lakh people have received a gift of vision. These figures reflect the positive effects of organ donation and the deep impression on its society.

Monument site made in memory of human organ donors

More than 280 monuments have been built in memory of human organ donors across the country. These monuments inspire the society to explain the dignity of charity and accept it. In addition, during the Chingaming Festival each year, local red cross societies organize various monumental activities to promote the culture of donation.

The aim of these programs is that people consider organ donation as a respectable task and be motivated to participate in this human effort. The memory underlined the greatness of humanity. Anga donation not only works to save the lives of needy patients, but also enhances the feeling of love, dedication and cooperation in the society. This program further strengthened social awareness, highlighting the progress in the field of human organ donation in China.
