India has strongly supported Afghanistan and the United Nations against Pakistan’s attacks. India has also strongly condemned the violence being carried out by Islamabad against its neighboring country. India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish said in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday (8 June 2026), ‘Pakistan in its statement today has raised questions about the intentions of UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan) and the credibility of the report of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.’

‘Bombs were showered on Afghanistan in the holy month of Ramadan’

In a discussion on the situation in Afghanistan, India’s permanent representative said, ‘We would like to emphasize that there is no option for multilateralism and support to the United Nations, which can be chosen or abandoned as per one’s convenience.’ He said that the air strikes carried out by Pakistan in Afghanistan during the holy month of Ramadan are a clear example of double standards in the context of international law and the high principles of Islamic solidarity.

He said, ‘We reiterate the Secretary-General’s deep concern over the civilian casualties from airstrikes, cross-border firing and targeted killings described in the UNAMA report. We support the Secretary-General’s appeal to abide by responsibilities under international law and ensure the safety of the general public. He further said, ‘We also support UNAMA’s earlier appeals which called for an investigation to ensure accountability, prevent incidents from happening again and uphold the rights of victims.’

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ report states that between January 26 and March 31, 372 Afghan civilians were killed and 392 were injured. Most of these civilians died due to air strikes and some also due to cross-border firing. The report said an air strike hit Kabul’s Omid Drug Rehabilitation Hospital on March 16, killing at least 269 people and injuring 122. Most of the dead were patients.

PAK wanted to isolate Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmed alleged that the UN Secretary General’s report tried to put the responsibility for the situation in Afghanistan on external factors. He also said there are serious questions about the credibility of UNAMA’s reporting from Afghanistan and the nature of its communications with the Taliban.

Iftikhar Ahmed described Pakistan’s attacks as counter-terrorism action. However, India’s Permanent Representative P Harish said, ‘Making a massacre a military operation does not absolve the culprit. Killing, maiming and orphaning common people is not counter terrorism. Harish said, ‘India wishes to emphasize the importance of UNAMA and its mandate and extend its full support to UNAMA at this difficult time as it seeks to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.’

India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Harish Parvatneni, slammed Pakistan in the UNSC meeting. In the meeting regarding Afghanistan, he said that it is an old habit of Pakistan to blame its neighbors for its failures. This attempt to mislead the world will fail.

The Indian envoy said, ‘India wishes to emphasize the importance of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and its work and extend full support in these difficult circumstances, as it tries to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan. In its statement today, Pakistan raised questions about the intentions of UNAMA and the veracity of the UNSG report. We wish to emphasize that supporting multilateralism and the United Nations is not a ‘pick-your-own’ menu. Pakistan’s military airstrike campaign against Afghanistan is causing huge loss of life and property to civilians and the Afghan people are suffering. We reiterate the Secretary-General’s deep concern over the civilian casualties caused by airstrikes, cross-border firing and targeted killings, as reported by UNAMA.’

India scolds PAK on airstrike in Afghanistan

India strongly condemned Pakistan’s airstrike in Afghanistan during the month of Ramadan. P Harish said, ‘India strongly condemns the airstrike in Afghan territory, which is a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter and the principle of state sovereignty. According to UNAMA, 372 civilians were killed and 397 injured in the first three months of this year alone; Most of these people were killed during the holy month of Ramadan – a time of peace, compassion and introspection, which makes these acts all the more reprehensible. “We reiterate UNAMA’s call to adhere to our responsibilities under international humanitarian law – such as the principles of caution, differentiation and proportionality – to protect civilians from harm.”

He further said that no religion, law or morality can justify such actions! I say it again – calling a genocide a military action does not absolve the perpetrators of it. Killing, maiming or orphaning civilians is not an anti-terrorism action. Talking about the high principles of international law and Islamic solidarity while simultaneously carrying out brutal air strikes during the holy month of Ramadan is the biggest example of hypocrisy. It is an old habit of Pakistan to blame its neighbors for its failures. This attempt to mislead the world will fail.

India also narrated on Fitna-al-Hindustan

Apart from this, P Harish said, ‘Islamabad calling the groups operating within its borders ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ is nothing but an officially sponsored misinformation campaign and propaganda wrapped in religious terminology.’ According to reports circulated by Pakistani media, the Pakistan government last year officially declared all terrorist groups and organizations operating in Balochistan province as Fitna al-Hindustan and alleged without providing any evidence that these organizations are involved in terrorism at the behest of India. Parvataneni described it as ‘the result of an organized factory of hatred run by the ruling establishment of Pakistan, whose objective is to keep its citizens in a state of permanent hostility against India, so as to maintain their grip on power and control over national resources.’

India gave a befitting reply to the comments of Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Permanent representative of India at the United Nations, P. Harish said that on the one hand there is India, which is a mature democracy, emerging economy, pluralist and inclusive society, while on the other hand there is Pakistan immersed in bigotry and terrorism, which is constantly taking loans from the International Monetry Fund (IMF).

P. Harish also said that while arguing to promote international peace and security, it is important to understand that there are some basic principles, which should be universally respected, one of them is zero tolerance to terrorism. It is not appropriate for a member of the council to preach by indulging in such conduct, which the international community is not tolerated at all.

What did India say in UNSC about ceasefire case?
Regarding the ceasefire, P. Harish said that after achieving the primary objectives of Operation Sindoor, military activities were directly stopped at Pakistan’s appeal. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar raised the Kashmir issue during an open debate on maintaining international peace and security in the United Nations Security Council.

Pakistan and Indus water treaty put Pakistan
On the question of Ishaq Dar, Ambassador P. Harish once again clarified that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. He responded to Pakistan and said that India will never accept any attempt to question the sovereignty of the country. Expressing strong opposition to Pakistan’s internationalization of Kashmir issue and mentioning the Indus Water Treaty in the United Nations Security Council, P. Harish said that Pakistan’s double character is condemnable on issues of terrorism and international peace.

India has expressed strong objection to the proposal to present religion or faith as a criteria for representation in the revised United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India clearly stated that such criteria are not corresponding to the long -established principles of regional representation. Countries of G-4 including India have rejected the proposal of reservation of Muslim country in the UN Security Council.

Speaking at the IGN meeting regarding the size and regional representation of the council in the future, India’s permanent representative P. Harish said that by introducing new parameters like religion, the fundamental principles of the council’s representation structure will derail. P. Harish said that the attempt to introduce new parameters such as religion and faith as the basis of representation in the council is completely opposite to regional representation, which has been the accepted basis for representation in the United Nations.

Erdogan advocated giving veto power to an Islamic country
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has advocated giving veto power to an Islamic country in the United Nations Security Council. Pakistan supports strong Islamic representation opposing adding new permanent members. Last year, Pakistan’s former United Nations Envoy Munir Akram stressed that Islamic Ummah would reject any UNSC reform proposal that does not include adequate representation for Muslim -majority countries.

G-4 broke the dream of Islamic representation
There has been a long demand for improvement in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The G-4 countries including India, Brazil, Germany and Japan have broken the dream of the Islamic representation of Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Saudi Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

Permanent representative of India P. Harish said that G-4 countries believe that the number of members of the Security Council should increase and the number of members should be 15 to 25 or 26. The number of permanent members should be increased from 5 to 11. At the same time, the number of temporary members should be increased from 10 to 14 or 15. At the same time, on the basis of religion, China is a leftist country, while 4 permanent members America, Britain, France and Russia are Christian -dominated countries.
