What is Padma Shri Award?

Padma Shri is a prestigious civilian honor given by the Government of India. It was started in the year 1954. This honor is given to those people who have made significant contribution in art, literature, education, science, sports, medicine, social service or other fields.

How is the selection done?

Common people can also send the name of any person for Padma awards. After this, a special committee of the Home Ministry reviews all the names. The final approval is given by the President. After this, the names of the award winners are announced around Republic Day.
