Amidst increasing tension with Afghanistan, Pakistan has now started openly putting pressure on the Taliban regime. After not getting concrete assurance from Kabul on its security demands, Islamabad has indicated for the first time that it will not shy away from supporting the change of regime in Afghanistan if the Afghan Taliban continues to ignore its requests. Pakistan says that it is ready to support any force that challenges the current regime in Kabul.

In a report of News 18, quoting sources, it has been claimed that Pakistan has conveyed this warning to the Taliban through Turkish officials. Pakistan’s main resentment is that Afghanistan is not taking any concrete steps against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Whereas Kabul has been reiterating for months that it has no connection with TTP and Afghan soil is not allowed to be used for terrorism, hence it will not sign any written agreement with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s secret contacts with former leaders?

According to top sources, Pakistan is now working on a new strategy. It is being told that Pakistan’s intelligence agencies are making contact with influential leaders of the former government of Afghanistan. This includes former President Hamid Karzai, Ashraf Ghani to Ahmed Masood and Northern Alliance chief Abdul Rashid Dostum.

Sources claim that Pakistan is also offering shelter to these leaders so that they can raise their voice against the Taliban rule while living from the land of Islamabad and the campaign for change of power can gain momentum. This signal shows a big and dangerous shift in Pakistan’s strategy.

Turkey and Qatar’s mediation ineffective

Three rounds of talks have taken place between Pakistan and Afghanistan under the mediation of Turkey and Qatar, but no solution could be found. Pakistan’s main demands are that Taliban should take strict action against TTP. TTP terrorists should be handed over to Pakistan. A buffer zone should be created around the Durand Line, but the Taliban has not shown any indication of accepting these demands.

Pakistan’s action against illegal Afghans intensified

Meanwhile, the action against Afghan citizens living illegally in Punjab province of Pakistan has intensified. According to the state government, more than 6,000 Afghans have been deported and sent back in the month of November alone. To encourage local citizens, the government has even announced that those who provide information on illegal Afghan residents will be given a cash reward.

Actually, Iranian tomatoes are coming in the Pakistani market, but due to the suspension of Afghanistan exports after increased border tension and military conflict, there has been a huge increase in the prices of many vegetables including tomatoes across Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Punjab province most affected

According to the report, the maximum impact of the rise in the prices of tomatoes in Pakistan has been seen in Jhelum and Gujranwala of Punjab province. While in Jhelum the price of tomato has reached Rs 700 per kg, in Gujranwala it is being sold at Rs 575 per kg.

Talking about other areas of Pakistan, the price of tomato in Multan is Rs 450 per kg, in Faisalabad it has reached Rs 500 per kg, while according to the official rate list of the administration, the maximum price of tomato is Rs 170 per kg. Whereas in Lahore, the price of tomato under the government rate is Rs 175, but in the markets tomatoes are being sold at Rs 400 per kg.

Amidst the ongoing conflict with Pakistan, Taliban chief Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada has made many major changes in the Afghan army and administration and has not only given command of special troops of the Afghan army to his special and experienced commanders but has also sent many old commanders as governors of the provinces bordering Pakistan. Along with this, Maulvi Inayatullah Shuja has also been made the Deputy Minister for Border Affairs in the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

The biggest change in the change that took place today (October 18, 2025) is that Badakhshan Province Governor Qari Mohammad Ayub Khalid has been made the commander of 215-Al Azm Army Corps, which used to command in northeastern Afghanistan before the Taliban came to power. However, later he was made the governor of Kunar province and then Badakhshan province, but now again the Taliban government has given the command of the military contingent to an old commander like Qari Mohammad Ayub Khalid, who has fought and commanded the war for decades and has been made the commander of 215- Al-Azm Army Corps, whose job is to protect the hinterland areas adjacent to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and to carry out attack operations. Mullah Sharafuddin Taqi, the current chief of 215-Al Azm Army Corps, has been given the responsibility of 217 Omri Army Corps, whose job is to protect and attack the border with China, Tajikistan and PoK and the surrounding provinces like Kunduz, Takrahar, Baghlan and Badakhshan. Maulvi Mohammad Ismail becomes governor of Badakhshan province

Maulvi Mohammad Ismail, who was earlier the deputy minister for border affairs, has now been made the governor of Badakhshan province, which is adjacent to PoK’s Gilgit-Baltistan, and the move reflects the Taliban’s attempt to consolidate control over its north-eastern borders. Also, Maulvi Inayatullah Shuja, who was earlier the Governor of Uruzgan Province, has now been appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Border Affairs, who will not only play an important role in managing Afghanistan’s long and sensitive borders with Pakistan, but will also keep an eye on Pakistan’s allegations of sending Afghan refugees to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and infiltration.

Maulvi Abdul Rahman Kundji made governor of Uruzgan province

Maulvi Abdul Rehman Kundji, who was earlier the governor of Helmand province, has now been made the governor of Uruzgan province. This province is also close to Pakistan and experienced leadership is necessary to maintain border security here. Along with this, Mullah Amanuddin Mansoor, who was earlier the commander of the 217th Omri Army Corps, has now been made the governor of Helmand province. Answer sought from officials within seven days
Asim Munir has asked the officials to give a detailed reply on the negligence during the attack within seven days, in which the mistake, reason and future improvements will have to be explained. He has also given instructions to increase surveillance in all sectors, take more measures and remain alert so that no such loss occurs in future.

According to the report, Asim Munir told the officials that we are going through an atmosphere of war not only on the borders but also inside the country. Sources said that on Saturday, Afghanistan attacked Pakistan from seven sides, including Angoor Adda, Chitral, Waziristan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Bahramcha and Chaman of Balochistan.
