At least three people were killed and six others were injured in an accident on a highway in Jowzjan province in northern Afghanistan. According to Xinhua news agency, the accident occurred on Sunday (March 1, 2026) when two vehicles traveling at high speed collided in Hadbakhshi area on Jozjan-Sari Pul Highway. In this accident, both the drivers and a female passenger died on the spot, while six other people including two children were injured.

According to the statement, the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have appealed to the drivers to strictly follow the traffic rules to prevent such incidents in future. Road accidents remain a major problem in war-affected Afghanistan. Bad roads, careless driving and lack of safety measures are the main reasons for this.

Earlier on January 31, three people were killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Baghlan province of northern Afghanistan. The accident occurred when two speeding vehicles collided in Kala-e-Baday area of Dushi district, in which three passengers, including a woman and a child, died on the spot.

On January 29, an accident also took place in northern Badakhshan province, in which a vehicle fell into a ditch from a mountain road. Two people died and one was injured in this accident. In December last year, at least five people were killed and 44 injured when a bus overturned in Salang area of Baghlan province.

Mohammad Ashraf Hakshenas, spokesman for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works, said that the accident occurred at around 2 am on December 20 in the Shawal area, north of Salang. He said that due to high speed and careless driving, the bus went off the road and overturned, due to which five people lost their lives and 44 others were injured. The injured were admitted to Khanjan District Health Centre.

The ministry appealed to the people to follow the instructions of the authorities and keep in mind the traffic rules while traveling on this route. Officials said that snow removal work is also being done at many places on Salang Highway.

The tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has now taken the form of war. The war between the two countries, which started at 9 pm on 26 February, is going on continuously. On one hand, the armies of both the countries are face to face at 8 places on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, while the war has adopted the air route during the day. Pakistan attacked military bases located in Paktika, Khost, Nangarhar of Afghanistan. In response, Afghanistan for the first time claimed to have carried out drone attacks on Pakistani military bases located in four cities of Pakistan, Swabi, Abbottabad and Nowshera.

There was no evidence of a drone attack in Islamabad, but Pakistani troops were stationed in a school in Swabi. An Afghan suicide drone exploded outside it, and an Afghan drone also fell inside the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) of the Pakistani Army in Abbottabad. Similarly, in Nowshera also the local people complained about the blast.

Pakistan released video of air strike

Till 6 pm on 27th February, Pakistan has released the video of air strike on more than 31 military bases of Afghanistan. Also, from yesterday (26 February) to today (27 February), the Afghan army has also destroyed more than 50 Pakistani military bases with the help of mortars and artillery.

Pakistan claims to have killed 274 Afghan army soldiers

Despite evidence, according to the Pakistani Army, from 9 pm on February 26 to 4 pm today, 274 Afghan Army soldiers were killed and more than 400 were injured in the clashes. Also, Pakistani Army claimed that more than 74 Afghan army posts have been destroyed. And 18 are under the control of Pakistan. If Pakistan Army’s claims are to be believed, it has destroyed more than 150 tanks, artillery and mortar guns of Afghanistan.

Pakistan admitted the death of 12 of its soldiers

At the same time, Pakistan admitted that 12 of its soldiers have lost their lives and 27 have been injured in this war. The Afghan government informed at midnight that it had killed more than 55 Pakistani soldiers in the strike between 9 pm to 1 am. However, Afghanistan has not yet given the latest figures. Also, according to Afghanistan’s figures, 8 of its soldiers have died in this battle.

Many countries offered mediation

To normalize the situation between the two countries, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Arghachi first offered mediation, after which Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelati, while talking to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Dr. Ishaq Dar, appealed for peace and understood the situation. Similarly, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, after talking to Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki, appealed for peace and offered mediation. However, at present both Pakistan and Afghanistan are not ready for mediation or ceasefire with any country.

On one hand, Trump kept threatening Iran and on the other hand, he started an open war between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistani Air Force is carrying out air strikes in Afghanistan and Afghan Air Force is carrying out air strikes in Pakistan till Islamabad. While Afghanistan is claiming to have killed 55 people of Pakistan, Pakistan has already claimed to have killed 150 people of Afghanistan. The fight that started between the Pakistani Army and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has now reached the air forces of both the countries and both the countries have declared open war, but the question is why. After all, what is the real reason for the ongoing war between Pakistan and Afghanistan? After all, what does Pakistan want from Afghanistan and what does Afghanistan want from Pakistan? Even if a country like Türkiye or Qatar mediates between the two, then what should be the matter between the two, on which they are fighting a war.

In fact, small and big clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan had started taking place ever since the Taliban had captured Afghanistan because as soon as the Taliban took over Afghanistan, those terrorist organizations, which were hiding in Pakistan after the weakening of the Taliban in Afghanistan, were once again encouraged. The Taliban terrorists who had fled from Afghanistan to Pakistan made their base in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border areas, which were tribal areas. Fata i.e. Federally Administered Tribal Area occupied by Pakistan was the biggest base of these terrorist organizations. These terrorists had formed their organizations under different names, but under pressure from America, Pakistan started taking strict action against these terrorists and then in 2007, Pakistani Army conducted a regular military operation in FATA, the result of which was that a total of 13 terrorist organizations came together and together they formed a new organization named Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan i.e. TTP, whose leader was Baitullah, a terrorist living in Waziristan province of Pakistan. Mehsud. The form of this new organization formed in Pakistan was Deobandi-Wahhabi, which had five main demands.

What are the demands of TTP in Pakistan?

The first demand is that Sharia should be implemented in entire Pakistan. The second demand is that women’s education should be completely banned in Pakistan and the third demand is that the Constitution of Pakistan should be dissolved and the country should be run according to Shariat. The fourth demand is that American forces be pulled out of Afghanistan and the fifth demand is that Pakistani troops be pulled out of FATA i.e. Federally Administered Tribal Area. But the then Pakistan government did not listen to a single word of this terrorist organization. On August 25, 2008, the Government of Pakistan declared Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan a banned organization.

Taliban released TTP terrorists from jail

Since then this organization continued to clash with the Pakistan Army. After Noor Wali Mehsud took command in 2018, TTP even expressed its intention to take over the entire Pakistan. On August 15, 2021, when the Taliban established its rule over Afghanistan, the Taliban government released all the TTP terrorists lodged in the jails of Afghanistan. Then on November 28, 2022, TTP security chief Mufti Mujahim announced that now TTP will carry out attacks across Pakistan. And this is what happened. TTP’s attacks on Pakistan increased. The government of Pakistan kept blaming TTP as well as Taliban ruled Afghanistan for these attacks and then the matter got so bad that after leaving TTP, this matter reached the military and then air force of both the countries. And now both are embroiled in war.

Is the war between Pakistan and Afghanistan the contribution of the British?

But even if there is no TTP or there is no Taliban in Afghanistan, then Afghanistan and Pakistan have enough reasons to fight each other, one of which is the contribution of the British and this is also the biggest reason. That is the border line drawn between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which is called Durand Line. On August 14, 1947, when Pakistan became a new country by dividing India on the basis of religion, it inherited this border line with Afghanistan.

What was the agreement between the British and Afghans?

One end of this 2670 km long border line meets China and the other meets Iran, whose history is about 130 years old. India was then ruled by the British. After many long battles, an agreement was reached between British India and Afghanistan on November 12, 1893, in which the boundaries of the two countries were determined. Officials from both sides sat in Parachinar city near Khost province of Afghanistan and a line was drawn on the map between the two countries. This line is called Durand Line. Through this line, a new province, North West Frontier Province, was created, which is generally called Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This part came to British India. Apart from this, FATA i.e. Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Frontier Regions also came to British India, while Nuristan and Wakhan went to Afghanistan.

An agreement was also reached in Rawalpindi

Then on 8 August 1919, another agreement was reached in Rawalpindi between the British Empire and Afghanistan, in which it was decided that the British Empire would recognize Afghanistan as an independent country, while Afghanistan would consider the Durand Line as the international boundary line. After August 14-15, 1947, the situation changed again. India became independent and Pakistan became a new country. Now with independence, Pakistan inherited the Durand Line, which separated Pakistan from Afghanistan. During this period, the Pashtun people, who lived on the border with Afghanistan, faced the most difficulties. The problem with them was that at the time of drawing the Durand Line, their families were so divided that some people went to Afghanistan and some remained in Pakistan. There were continuous differences between the two countries regarding this. Meanwhile, firing was done from Afghanistan near the Durand Line. The newly formed Pakistan responded to this firing by sending the Air Force and the Pakistani Air Force carried out an air attack on a village in Afghanistan near the Durand Line. After this attack on July 26, 1949, Afghanistan announced that it does not recognize the Durand Line.

The British decided the border between the two countries

But then Britain intervened. In June 1950, Britain made it clear that the border line between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be the Durand Line. But this issue could never be resolved. Pakistan and Afghanistan often clashed on this issue. Sometimes there was friendship and sometimes enmity. There was friendship in the name of Islam and there was a rift in this friendship in the name of border line. The enmity deepened with the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan in 1996, because the Taliban opposed the Durand Line and said that there was no need for any border line between the two Islamic countries. But then America drove the Taliban from Afghanistan and peace came on the Durand Line. Now that Taliban is again in Afghanistan, there does not seem to be any hope of peace between the two at the moment.

When will the Afghan-Pak war end?

Let’s see how far this war stretches. Pakistan was already devoting its energy to fighting the Baloch Liberation Army in Balochistan; on top of that, it was also fighting the TTP. But now the fight is not with any terrorist organization, but with the army of a country and a decisive attack can turn this war in any direction. Russia is saying that both the countries should talk. Volker Turk, head of human rights issues of the United Nations, is saying that both the countries should talk at the political level. Türkiye and Qatar can also try to reach an agreement between the two. But the way Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has called it an open war and Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has also talked about preparations for a major attack on Pakistan, it does not seem that this war will end soon.

Apart from Kabul, in the early hours of Friday (27 February), Pakistan carried out air strikes in Kandahar and Paktika. Pakistani security officials claim that two brigade headquarters of the Afghan army were destroyed in these attacks. At least three massive explosions were heard in Kabul, causing panic among local residents.

Amidst increasing tension with Afghanistan, Pakistan has now started openly putting pressure on the Taliban regime. After not getting concrete assurance from Kabul on its security demands, Islamabad has indicated for the first time that it will not shy away from supporting the change of regime in Afghanistan if the Afghan Taliban continues to ignore its requests. Pakistan says that it is ready to support any force that challenges the current regime in Kabul.

In a report of News 18, quoting sources, it has been claimed that Pakistan has conveyed this warning to the Taliban through Turkish officials. Pakistan’s main resentment is that Afghanistan is not taking any concrete steps against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Whereas Kabul has been reiterating for months that it has no connection with TTP and Afghan soil is not allowed to be used for terrorism, hence it will not sign any written agreement with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s secret contacts with former leaders?

According to top sources, Pakistan is now working on a new strategy. It is being told that Pakistan’s intelligence agencies are making contact with influential leaders of the former government of Afghanistan. This includes former President Hamid Karzai, Ashraf Ghani to Ahmed Masood and Northern Alliance chief Abdul Rashid Dostum.

Sources claim that Pakistan is also offering shelter to these leaders so that they can raise their voice against the Taliban rule while living from the land of Islamabad and the campaign for change of power can gain momentum. This signal shows a big and dangerous shift in Pakistan’s strategy.

Turkey and Qatar’s mediation ineffective

Three rounds of talks have taken place between Pakistan and Afghanistan under the mediation of Turkey and Qatar, but no solution could be found. Pakistan’s main demands are that Taliban should take strict action against TTP. TTP terrorists should be handed over to Pakistan. A buffer zone should be created around the Durand Line, but the Taliban has not shown any indication of accepting these demands.

Pakistan’s action against illegal Afghans intensified

Meanwhile, the action against Afghan citizens living illegally in Punjab province of Pakistan has intensified. According to the state government, more than 6,000 Afghans have been deported and sent back in the month of November alone. To encourage local citizens, the government has even announced that those who provide information on illegal Afghan residents will be given a cash reward.

The ongoing border dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan has badly affected the economy of both the countries. Since the closure of the border from October 11, not only has business come to a complete standstill, but the prices of everyday items have started skyrocketing. Khan Jan Alokozay, head of the Pak-Afghan Chamber of Commerce in Kabul, said that since the conflict started, both the countries are suffering a loss of about 1 million dollars every day.

Among the food items in Pakistan, the prices of tomatoes and apples have been most affected. Earlier tomatoes were available at Rs 120 per kg, now they are being sold at Rs 600 per kg. There has also been a huge jump in the prices of apples and grapes, because a large part of them is imported from Afghanistan. On the matter, Khan Jan Alokojay said that about 500 containers of vegetables used to come to us every day for export, which has now stopped due to border closure.

5,000 containers stuck on the border
About 5,000 containers are stuck on both sides of the Torkham border of Pakistan. These include things like fruits, vegetables, minerals, medicines, wheat, rice, sugar, meat and dairy products. Local officials said that now it has become very difficult to get things like tomatoes, apples and grapes in the market.

Situation worsened after skirmishes and air strikes
The border skirmishes started when Pakistan demanded action against terrorists carrying out cross-border attacks from Afghanistan. Pakistan claims that these terrorists are operating from Afghan soil, which Kabul has strongly denied. This conflict is considered to be the worst border conflict since the Taliban capture Kabul in 2021.

Ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey
Late last week, both countries agreed to a ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey, but trade is still at a standstill. The next round of talks will be held in Istanbul on Friday (October 25), where border opening and resumption of trade will be discussed.

After the recent conflict with Afghanistan, Pakistan’s domestic market has become bad. Tomato prices have skyrocketed in Pakistan. The price of tomato has reached Rs 700 per kg in many big cities of the country including Lahore-Karachi. Till a few weeks ago, the price of tomato, which is one of the most essential ingredients in the kitchen, was Rs 100 per kg in Pakistan, but now after increasing several times, the price of tomato has started touching the sky. Due to manifold increase in the prices of tomatoes, the common people of Pakistan have been affected the most. The people of the country are very worried about this. At the same time, along with many local reasons, the conflict with Afghanistan is also being said to be behind this increase.

According to the report of Pakistan’s Sama TV, many parts of the country are flood affected, due to which the crops grown in the fields have been completely destroyed. Along with this, due to disruption in trade and shortage in supply, tomato prices have started skyrocketing in Pakistan. Actually, Iranian tomatoes are coming in the Pakistani market, but due to the suspension of Afghanistan exports after increased border tension and military conflict, there has been a huge increase in the prices of many vegetables including tomatoes across Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Punjab province most affected

According to the report, the maximum impact of the rise in the prices of tomatoes in Pakistan has been seen in Jhelum and Gujranwala of Punjab province. While in Jhelum the price of tomato has reached Rs 700 per kg, in Gujranwala it is being sold at Rs 575 per kg.

Talking about other areas of Pakistan, the price of tomato in Multan is Rs 450 per kg, in Faisalabad it has reached Rs 500 per kg, while according to the official rate list of the administration, the maximum price of tomato is Rs 170 per kg. Whereas in Lahore, the price of tomato under the government rate is Rs 175, but in the markets tomatoes are being sold at Rs 400 per kg.

Amidst the ongoing conflict with Pakistan, Taliban chief Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada has made many major changes in the Afghan army and administration and has not only given command of special troops of the Afghan army to his special and experienced commanders but has also sent many old commanders as governors of the provinces bordering Pakistan. Along with this, Maulvi Inayatullah Shuja has also been made the Deputy Minister for Border Affairs in the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

The biggest change in the change that took place today (October 18, 2025) is that Badakhshan Province Governor Qari Mohammad Ayub Khalid has been made the commander of 215-Al Azm Army Corps, which used to command in northeastern Afghanistan before the Taliban came to power. Also, after coming to power, Qari Mohammad Ayub Khalid was given the responsibility of 203 Mansoori Military Corps and then Al Farooq Military Corps in 2023.

Taliban government gave command of military contingent to Qari Mohammad

However, later he was made the governor of Kunar province and then Badakhshan province, but now again the Taliban government has given the command of the military contingent to an old commander like Qari Mohammad Ayub Khalid, who has fought and commanded the war for decades and has been made the commander of 215- Al-Azm Army Corps, whose job is to protect the hinterland areas adjacent to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and to carry out attack operations. Have to execute.

Mullah Sharafuddin Taqi, the current chief of 215-Al Azm Army Corps, has been given the responsibility of 217 Omri Army Corps, whose job is to protect and attack the border with China, Tajikistan and PoK and the surrounding provinces like Kunduz, Takrahar, Baghlan and Badakhshan. Before this, Mullah Sharafuddin Taqi also had the responsibility of 215 Maiwand Military Corps and was also the governor of Taliban in Urzugan.

Maulvi Mohammad Ismail becomes governor of Badakhshan province

Maulvi Mohammad Ismail, who was earlier the deputy minister for border affairs, has now been made the governor of Badakhshan province, which is adjacent to PoK’s Gilgit-Baltistan, and the move reflects the Taliban’s attempt to consolidate control over its north-eastern borders. Also, Maulvi Inayatullah Shuja, who was earlier the Governor of Uruzgan Province, has now been appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Border Affairs, who will not only play an important role in managing Afghanistan’s long and sensitive borders with Pakistan, but will also keep an eye on Pakistan’s allegations of sending Afghan refugees to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and infiltration.

Maulvi Abdul Rahman Kundji made governor of Uruzgan province

Maulvi Abdul Rehman Kundji, who was earlier the governor of Helmand province, has now been made the governor of Uruzgan province. This province is also close to Pakistan and experienced leadership is necessary to maintain border security here. Along with this, Mullah Amanuddin Mansoor, who was earlier the commander of the 217th Omri Army Corps, has now been made the governor of Helmand province. The deployment of Mullah Amanuddin Mansoor is being considered as sending an experienced commander to the southern border where several attacks on civilian structures have taken place in the last 10 days.

After the attack in Afghanistan, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has given a tough class in the emergency meeting of top commanders. On Saturday (October 11, 2025), Afghanistan launched a major attack on Pakistan, in which many Pakistani posts are said to have been captured. Taliban claims that 58 Pakistani Army soldiers have been killed in its attack. After this attack by Afghanistan, Pakistan has to face a lot of embarrassment, due to which Asim Munir is very angry.

CNN News-18 has quoted intelligence sources as saying that in the high level meeting held at Rawalpindi Headquarters on Monday night, Asim Munir reprimanded his top commanders and termed it as gross negligence. Intelligence sources said that the meeting was attended by Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Omar Ahmed Bukhari, Southern Command Commander Lieutenant General Rahat Naseem Ahmed, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Muhammad Awez, Director General Asim Malik, Inter-Services Intelligence, Director General Military Intelligence Major General Wajid Aziz and Director General Military Operations Major General Kashif Abdullah and other senior officers attended.

Asim Munir spoke harshly to the officials
Asim Munir has sought answers from every officer attending the meeting as to how they were unaware of such a huge attack and why there was no military backup present on the spot for retaliatory action. Sources said that in the meeting Asim Munir spoke to the officials in a very harsh tone. According to sources, Asim Munir sternly asked the officers, ‘How were you oblivious, where was our advance intelligence and what is the reason behind this intelligence failure?’

Answer sought from officials within seven days
Asim Munir has asked the officials to give a detailed reply on the negligence during the attack within seven days, in which the mistake, reason and future improvements will have to be explained. He has also given instructions to increase surveillance in all sectors, take more measures and remain alert so that no such loss occurs in future.

According to the report, Asim Munir told the officials that we are going through an atmosphere of war not only on the borders but also inside the country. Sources said that on Saturday, Afghanistan attacked Pakistan from seven sides, including Angoor Adda, Chitral, Waziristan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Bahramcha and Chaman of Balochistan. The Pakistani Army had no idea that such a big attack could happen from Afghanistan, which shows great carelessness between the army’s intelligence and preparations on the border.
