Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have now reached a very dangerous phase. On October 9, 2025, Pakistan Air Force carried out air strikes on Kabul and Khost cities of Afghanistan, after which the conflict escalated. Pakistani tanks have also been captured by Afghan soldiers. After these attacks, the Taliban government deployed Soviet-era Scud-B ballistic missiles near the Pakistan border. This step worsened the already tense atmosphere.

The Scud-B missile is a strategic ballistic missile, developed by the Soviet Union in the 1950s. This missile is still active in the armies of many countries, including North Korea, Iran, Syria and now Afghanistan. This missile is capable of attacking at a distance of about 300 kilometers and can carry up to one ton of explosives. Its fuel is liquid and it is fired from a mobile launcher vehicle. Although its accuracy is less than modern missiles, it is still considered dangerous on the battlefield.

How did Afghanistan get Scud missiles?

Afghanistan received Scud missiles from the Soviet Union in the 1980s. The Soviet Army had given hundreds of missiles and launchers to the then government of the country during the Afghan war. At that time these missiles were used to target Taliban positions. After the withdrawal of Soviet forces after 1988, some missiles remained in Afghan territory. The Taliban later gained control over these missiles.

Taliban has control of Scud missiles

When the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, it took control of the remaining military resources in the country. During this time he also found old Scud-B missiles and their launch systems. The Taliban displayed these missiles publicly several times to show that it now had “state military capability”. This demonstration was also part of the Taliban’s political strategy, through which it wanted to present itself as a legitimate regime at the international level.

Taliban’s new military strategy

The Taliban earlier relied on guerrilla warfare, but have now started adopting traditional military symbols. The deployment of Scud-B missiles is a new step in that direction. Due to this, security concerns have increased in neighboring countries including Pakistan. Taliban wants Pakistan to get a clear message that now Afghanistan is capable of responding not only with rifles or bombs, but with missiles.

Increasing clashes and warnings

Recently, Pakistan had attacked Kabul and Khost in the name of anti-terrorist action. After this, Taliban said that it has killed dozens of Pakistani soldiers and taken some captive. Taliban spokesperson gave a statement that Pakistan will not be spared under any circumstances.

Durand Line the focal point of the conflict

The border between Afghanistan and Pakistan is called the Durand Line. This border was decided in 1893 during the British rule. Afghanistan does not recognize this line till date, while Pakistan considers it the official border. Due to this dispute, border skirmishes, infiltration and aerial combat have become common.

Floods in the last 7 villages of Gurdaspur, situated on the India-Pakistan border, have caused severe havoc. The water of Ravi and Ujdis entered these villages so much that they lost contact with the rest of the world. Roads have been drowned, houses have a pile of mud, and the fields and barns have been destroyed. The only way to reach these villages is now NDRF boats, which are engaged in relief and rescue operations day and night.

Things still critical

For the last several days, these villages are in bad condition. Even though the water level has been reduced now, the situation is still bad. The villagers say that water came out of their houses, but the soil and mud ruined everything. The crops have been completely destroyed, which has broken the back of the farmers.

A local farmer said, “Our life was on farming, now everything is over. Neither the house is left, no farm. Now just waiting when the situation should improve.”

NDRF’s rescue operation

NDRF deputy commandant Deepak Singh said that rescue works were started from August 26-27. So far, more than 1500 people have been evacuated. People were taken out of flood water through ropes, tractor-trolleys and boats.

Deepak Singh said, “The water of the rivers Ravi and Ujis comes from Himachal, due to which the flood took the form of a gigantic form. The contact of seven villages was completely broken. We not only evacuate the people, but also brought relief materials. Medical camps were set up and every necessary step is being taken with the district administration.”

Relief from boat, still challenges

NDRF teams are delivering food and drinks, medicines and other important things to these villages through boats day and night. But the challenges are not less. The ways to reach the villages are completely closed. Boats are the only support, and many places water is so deep that there is a danger in the operation. Nevertheless, NDRF, Army, BSF and local administration are doing everything possible.

Please tell that due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, the water level in Ravi and Ujdis increased dangerously. Extra water was released from many dams in Punjab, such as Pong, Ranjit Sagar and Bhakra, which further worsened the situation.

NDRF started its preparations before the flood season. Deepak Singh said, “We are ready before the flood every year. But this time the flood level is the worst after 1988.”

So far 250 people have died due to the earthquake that occurred in Afghanistan on Sunday (August 31) night. While hundreds of people have been injured. The intensity of the earthquake in Kunar and Nangarhar province of Afghanistan was recorded at 6.0 on the Richter scale. At the same time, an earthquake of intensity of 6.3 also occurred.

Afghanistan’s Information Ministry said that more than 250 people were killed and 500 were injured in the earthquake in the eastern side of the country late on Sunday night. American Geological Survey (Usgs) Told that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 8 km in the east 27 km east of Jalalabad.

Due to the earthquake, people are reported to have casualty in Nur Gal, Savi, Vatpur, Manogi and Chapa Dara districts of Kunar province. The injured people have been admitted to the nearest hospital. Initial information was found that 9 people died due to earthquake, but after this the number increased to 20. Now the death toll has reached beyond 250.

Hundreds of houses have turned into debris due to earthquake. There is also news of landslide after the earthquake, due to which many people are buried under debris. The local administration has started rescue work to help the people. Nangarhar and Kunar Province are part of the Hindukush region, located at the junction of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, due to which the region is much sensitive to earthquake.

Illegal immigrants: 53 Afghan children illegally entered from the border of Pakistan’s Khyber district have been sent back to their country.
