Pakistan’s Minister of State for Law, Akil Malik told Geo News that this is the first time since the implementation of the 1973 Constitution that an officer has been promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. Former Pakistani MP Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the purpose of the 27th amendment is to make changes in Article 243. Posting on Twitter, he said, ‘The main objective of the 27th Amendment is to make changes in Article 243, which deals with the control and command of the armed forces as well as the appointment of service chiefs. Everything else is just fanfare.

Former US Ambassador Khalilzad also targeted the Pakistan government and said, ‘Thinking is being done to give civilian rights to the armed forces by amending Article 243 of the Constitution.
