Uganda Will Replace Pakistan In ICC T20 World Cup 2026: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is going to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left the decision of Pakistan’s participation in this tournament in the hands of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will now decide whether the Pakistani team will participate in the T20 World Cup or not. The final decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in this tournament may come in the next few days. Regarding this, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi told on Twitter on Monday i.e. 26th January that he met the Prime Minister. He wrote in his post, ‘Had a positive meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Informed him about the ICC case and instructed that a solution would be found keeping all options open. It has been decided that the final decision will be taken on Friday or next Monday.

Will Pakistan be the second team to be eliminated from T20 World Cup?

If Pakistan withdraws from the T20 World Cup 2026, then it will become the second team to be out of the tournament. Recently, Bangladesh also withdrew from the tournament because ICC refused to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s demand after an independent security investigation.

Uganda will get a chance instead of Pakistan

If Pakistan withdraws from T20 World Cup 2026, then Uganda will get a chance in its place. This East African team was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup, but the Ugandan team could not qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup. According to ICC rules, the top-ranked team that does not qualify takes the place of the eliminated team. 14th ranked Scotland got the chance in place of Bangladesh. Uganda is the second highest ranked team that has not been able to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Uganda is ranked 21st in the T20 International rankings and hence will replace Pakistan.

How was Uganda’s performance in T20 World Cup 2024?

Uganda participated in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time and was successful in registering one win in four matches. They won against PNG, while they had to face defeat against Afghanistan, West Indies and New Zealand. However, Uganda could not qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026.

Those 5 points which will cost heavily if boycotting Pakistan

1. ICC can ban Pakistan

If Pakistan Cricket Board boycotts T20 World Cup 2026 on the instructions of its government, then ICC can declare it as ‘political interference’. In such a situation, ICC can impose many types of bans on PCB. These restrictions may be as follows-

• Ban on hosting of ICC events: ICC has given hosting of Women’s T20 World Cup 2028 to PCB, which ICC can take back. Also, ICC will not make Pakistan the host of its events in future.
• Ban from global cricket: ICC can impose global cricket ban on PCB. Because of this, he will not be able to participate in any tournament nor will he be able to play bilateral series with any country. Such a ban has been in place in South Africa for four decades. Also, such a ban has been imposed on Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka for some time.

2. Will be accused of breaking the participation agreement

A Tournament Participation Agreement (TPA) is signed between all Full Member countries participating in ICC tournaments and the ICC. If the PCB withdraws its name from the tournament at the last moment, then the ICC can also take legal action against it for breaking this agreement.

3. ICC will ban revenue sharing worth billions of rupees

Every year, ICC gives a share of its revenue to all the member countries. Pakistan also gets a share of about 6% of the total revenue of ICC, which is likely to be around Rs 316 crore this year. Apart from this, for participating in the T20 World Cup, an amount of 5 million dollars (about Rs 46 crore) is to be received from the ICC for preparation and participation, which will not be available after the boycott. Apart from this, Pakistan was to get an amount of 2 million dollars (about Rs 18 crore) as prize money and other types of earnings related to matches for participating in the tournament, which will not be received.

4. NOC of players may be banned for PSL

ICC has already warned PCB that NOC can also ban foreign players for playing in Pakistan Super League (PSL). For this, along with ICC, cricket boards like Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, South Africa and England will also cooperate. PSL is the biggest source of revenue generation for PCB, which adds attraction to the league due to the arrival of foreign cricketers. If ICC and cricket boards of other countries ban the playing of foreign players in it, then Pakistan Super League will be completely finished. Because of this, Pakistan may suffer huge losses.

5. Pakistan will be isolated in world cricket

If Pakistan boycotts T20 World Cup 2026, then it may also have to face boycott from ICC. In such a situation, Pakistan will be completely isolated from world cricket. Due to lack of ICC approval, no other country will come to play cricket there. In such a situation, it will become completely impossible for it to generate revenue, due to which Pakistan cricket will come to an end.
