Pakistan has expressed grief over the demise of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that we express our deepest condolences on the demise of former Bangladesh Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) President Begum Khaleda Zia.

However, none of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pak Army Chief Asim Munir or Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who have expressed close ties with Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina’s coup, are going to attend her funeral, but Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sajid will attend the funeral of Bangladesh’s first woman Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Dhaka on Wednesday (December 31, 2025).

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister expressed grief by posting

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar shared a post on social media platform X on Tuesday (December 30, 2025). In the post, Ishaq Dar also shared two pictures of his meeting with Khaleda Zia.

Apart from this, in the post Ishaq Dar said that deep condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and President of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Begum Khaleda Zia. May Allah Almighty reward him with a high position in heaven. Along with this he said that may Allah grant patience and courage to the bereaved family.

Speaker of National Assembly will go to Dhaka- Ishaq Dar

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar shared another X post at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday (December 30). In this post, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will visit Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka tomorrow, where he will represent Pakistan at the funeral of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, late Begum Khaleda Zia.

Bangladesh on Sunday (August 25, 2025) raised the pending issues in front of Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, apologizing for the 1971 war. Dar is the most senior leader of Pakistan to visit Dhaka since 2012.

Dar reached Dhaka on Saturday on a two -day visit to Bangladesh. Her aim is to improve the relationship with Bangladesh after the long -time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has removed from the post. Dar interacted with M Tauheed Hussain, the foreign advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh.

Problems of 54 years difficult to solve in a single day

Tauheed Hussain told reporters after a meeting with Dar, “We have raised unresolved issues, such as forgiveness or regret for 1971, claims on assets and the case of trapped Pakistani citizens.” He said that it would be wrong to expect that the problems of 54 years will be solved in a single day.

The foreign advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh said at a press conference, “Both countries have presented their own status on these issues.” Dar said that unresolved issues of 1971 were resolved twice. In 1974, in 1974, in the tripartite talks of New Delhi in India and then later, the then President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, resolves the issue of massacre during his visit to Dhaka. He spoke on this publicly with an open mind.

Five MoU signed

Hussain said that an agreement and five MoUs (MoUs) were signed between the two countries. Hussain said that both countries have agreed that historical issues should be resolved through discussion to carry forward bilateral relations.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is going to go to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh on a three -day visit. Later this week, Pakistani External Affairs Minister Dar will meet several leaders of Bangladesh, which will also include many anti-India leaders. In such a situation, India is keeping a close watch on this meeting to be held in Dhaka.

Although this visit of Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was originally proposed in April this year, but after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan suffered a lot in the operation sindoor run by India, so this meeting in April was postponed.

According to Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Aloe, Foreign Affairs advisor in Bangladesh’s Interim Government Tauheed Hussain said, “Like other countries of the world, we are also trying to establish our general relations with Pakistan, including trade, investment and facilitating the movement of people.” Hussain said, “An unnecessary atmosphere of enmity was created in the past, but now we have moved beyond that. But there are still three issues in improving the relationship that will be discussed.”

Who will meet Ishaq Dar in Dhaka,

Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will meet several prominent leaders associated with Bangladesh politics during his Dhaka tour. These leaders include Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Tauheed Hussain, advisor to Foreign Affairs and President of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former PM Khalida Zia.

Apart from this, Ishaq Dar will also meet the leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, who has taken an opposing stance against India, which can be a concern for India. This radical Islamic organization was banned by the previous governments of Bangladesh due to allegations of suppression of minorities as well as being associated with terrorist activities.
