The US took a major step on Monday (11 August 2025), officially declared the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its pseudo -name Majeed Brigade as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO). US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement and confirmed the decision. He said that since 2019, BLA has taken responsibility for many major attacks, including the attack by Majeed Brigade.

BLA was already in the radar of the US and in 2019 it was declared a specially designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization. Since then, it has taken responsibility for many suicide bombings, high-profile attacks and recent Jaffer Express train kidnapping.

According to the US State Department, in 2024, BLA claimed responsibility for suicide attacks near Karachi Airport and Gwadar Port Authority Complex. In March 2025, the organization hijacked the Jafar Express train going from Quetta to Peshawar, killing 31 people and more than 300 passengers were taken hostage. These incidents challenged the security and stability of not only Pakistan but the entire region. The US statement said that this step is important to prevent the financing and support of terrorism.

Results of FTO declared
After declaring BLA and Majeed Brigade a FTO, the US government can now seize their properties in America. Financial or directly supporting the organization will become a criminal offense. The US, along with other countries, may cooperate to close its network and operation.

Shared stance of Pakistan and America
The Government of Pakistan has already declared BLA as a terrorist organization. This organization has been running a rebellion for decades, demanding freedom of mineral-rich Balochistan province. Recently, the US had also declared The Resistance Front (TRF) of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba as FTO after the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
