Pakistan has always posed a threat to India. Ever since India conducted its first Pokhran nuclear test, since then it was in Pakistan’s mind how and how soon it should make nuclear weapons. In the history of South Asia, Pakistan’s nuclear power was such a turn, which changed the direction of history. But do you know that if Israel had shown strictness in the 1970s and 80s, Pakistan would probably never be able to make a nuclear bomb.

There has also been a discussion that if strict steps against Pakistan had been taken at that time with the help of India and Israel, Pakistan could have been prevented from making nuclear weapons. But the question is also that Israel offered such help against Pakistan in front of India. Let’s understand this.

Pakistan’s nuclear journey

India conducted the first nuclear test in Pokhran in 1974. After this, Pakistan also decided that it will make atomic bombs under any circumstances. For this purpose, Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan started the work of raising nuclear technology and sensitive equipment from Europe. Gradually, the process of uranium enhancement at Pakistan’s Kahuta nuclear plant intensified.

What was worrying about Israel?

Israel has been cautious about nuclear spread for a long time, especially about the activities of Muslim countries. Israel feared that if Pakistan made nuclear weapons, it could prove to be a threat to not only India but the entire middle East. According to the reports, Israel’s agency Mossad had received information about Pakistan’s activities and warned the US, but at that time America needed Pakistan against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, so it ignored this warning.

India had an offer for attack on Kahuta

Adrian Levy and Catherine Scott-Clarke’s book ‘Discussion: Pakistan, United States and the Global Weapons Conspiracy’ mentions that in the 1980s, Israel offered a joint air attack to India to end Pakistan’s Kahuta nuclear plant. This was the plant where the entire nuclear program of Pakistan was being prepared. Israel wanted this mission to be completed through India’s land. But it is said that India had directly refused to join it, as a result of which this Israeli plan was reduced to paper only.

Pakistan gets time

Now call it a hesitation of Israel and America, but it gave Pakistan the time that it needed the most. Pakistan rapidly pursued its nuclear program in the 1980s and 90s and finally surprised the world by doing nuclear tests in Chagai in response to India’s second nuclear test Pokhran-II in 1998.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has rejected any possibility of nuclear war during a recent military confrontation with India. He clarified that Pakistan’s nuclear program is not for any attack, but for peaceful objectives and self -defense.

Addressing the students in Islamabad on Saturday, Sharif said, “Our nuclear program is for the security of the country and not for aggression. It is wrong to misunderstand the way of attack.” Referring to military tension that lasted for four days, he claimed that 55 Pakistani citizens died in Indian attacks. However, he insisted that Pakistan responded with full force.

India launched Operation Sindoor

This statement came at a time when India took major military action under ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April. 26 innocent citizens were killed in that attack, which was taken responsibility by ‘The Resistance Front’, an organization associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Under this operation, the Indian Army targeted nine terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) on 7 May. These included many important hideouts including Jaish-e-Mohammed’s stronghold Bahawalpur.

Plan to make Army Chief Asim Munir President?

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also dismissed the reports in which it was said that President Asif Ali Zardari could be removed from the post and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is planning to replace him with him.

Pakistan PM Sharif said in a conversation with The News on Friday, “Field Marshal Asim Munir has never expressed his desire to become president nor is there any such plan. These are just speculation.” The Prime Minister also clarified that he, President Zardari and Army Chief Munir have relations based on respect and trust.

Foreign hand behind propaganda campaign: Home Minister Naqvi

Earlier on Thursday, Home Minister Mosin Naqvi condemned the ongoing propaganda campaign against Zardari, Sharif and Munir in a post on X. Naqvi wrote, “We know very well who is behind this false campaign.” He further wrote, “Those who are giving air to this false enemy, they should do whatever they want with foreign enemy agencies, but we will do whatever will be necessary to make Pakistan again. Inshallah.” Significantly, Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed as Army Chief for three years in 2022, which was later increased by the government to five years.

India Pakistan News: The stir in Pakistan has intensified after India has targeted terrorist bases and air defense systems under Operation Sindoor started on 7 May 2025. Especially when India also demolished the HQ-9 air defense system located in Lahore, the meeting of Pakistan’s National Command Authority (NCA) on 9 May caught the attention of the international community.

The meeting indicates that Islamabad is now making a strategic reconsideration of its atomic and missile policy, and after India’s strict military replies, it can also be in preparation for a big step. The National Command Authority (NCA) is Pakistan’s highest civilian-monetary decision-making institution, which is to make a nuclear policy. Apart from this, many important decisions have to be taken, which are as follows.

-Monitoring of Micile Program

-Security of seinous properties

-The -term nuclear decision

It was established in the year 2000, headquartered in Islamabad. It is chaired by the Prime Minister, which is currently in the hands of Shahbaz Sharif.

NCA structure and member

The NCA is chaired by the Prime Minister of Pakistan and it consists of many other ministers and officials, which is as follows.

Foreign Minister: Ishaq Dar

Defense Minister: Khwaja Asif

Army Chief: General Asim Munir

Navy Chief: Admiral Naved Ashraf

Air Force Chief: Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babur

Chief of Joint Staff Committee: General Sahir Shamshad Mirza

The Home Minister and Finance Minister also join it. The decisions of this committee are on the basis of voting or consensus. Its instructions apply Strategic Plans Division (Spd), which is headed by military officers of a lieutenant general rank.

After Operation Sindoor Strategy

After surgical missile attacks on 9 terrorist bases from India on 7 May, Pakistan tried to finger Fateh-1 missile, which was disabled in the air by Indian air defense systems. In such a situation, the NCA meeting indicates a strategic thinking whether Pakistan is planning to use nuclear weapons? According to analysts, the meeting also indicates the pressure of the Pakistan Army and military domination in the role of NCA.

Army influence on nuclear control
Although the structure of NCA leads to civil leadership prominently, the army is more dominated by the war or military crisis. According to the report of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the final decision on Pakistan’s nuclear policy is in the hands of the army.
