Turkey is now in talks to join a strong defense agreement made between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. This agreement is like Article 5 of NATO, in which an attack on one member will be considered an attack on all. Many people are calling it ‘Islamic NATO’ or ‘Muslim NATO’.

Turkey’s entry into mutual defense agreement

According to Bloomberg report, this agreement was first signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in September 2025, which is called Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement. Now Turkey is trying to join it and the talks have advanced a lot. The possibility of an agreement is said to be very high.

What will the three countries give in this alliance?

Saudi Arabia: Will give a lot of money and financial support. Saudi has a lot of income from oil, which will help in running this alliance.

Pakistan: Will provide nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles and a large army. Pakistan is the only Islamic country in the world which has nuclear weapons.

Turkish: Will provide strong military experience, domestic defense industry and modern weapons. Turkey is a member of NATO and has the second largest army after America. Turkey is building corvette warships for Pakistan, upgrading F-16 fighter jets, sharing drone technology and is talking about including both in the fifth-generation fighter jet program.

Nihat Ali Ozkan, strategist of Ankara-based think tank TEPAV, said that America is now focusing more on its own and Israel’s interests, so these countries are creating a new way to decide new friends and enemies. The intentions of the three countries are found in parts of South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

The three countries came closer than before

All three countries are concerned about Iran (Shia dominated), they prefer talks with Iran, not war.

He supports a stable Sunni government in Syria and the state of Palestine.

This week, the first naval meeting of the three countries took place in Ankara, which has been confirmed by the Turkish Defense Ministry.

What is India’s reaction to this alliance?

India has kept an eye on this ‘Islamic NATO’ plan. This development is important because Turkey is a long-time member of NATO. Operation Sindoor took place between India and Pakistan in May 2025, in which Turkey openly supported Pakistan. After that clash there was ceasefire between the two countries.

This alliance is yet to be fully formed, but if Turkey joins, it could change the security of South Asia and the Middle East. Experts believe that this alliance is mainly for Iran and regional challenges, and not for India or Israel. But India is cautious because Pakistan and Turkey have already been speaking against India on the Kashmir issue.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed the defense agreement on Wednesday (17 September 2025), which has created a stir internationally. The timing of the agreement and the hidden messages behind it have caught the attention of experts. This step can prove to be important not only for the Gulf region but also for South Asia and global politics. The agreement came to light about ten days after the attack on Hamas leaders in Doha on 9 September. Experts believe that its timing is very symbolic. In this, it has been provided that an attack on any country, both will be considered as an attack.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Riyadh has described it as a comprehensive defensive agreement, including all military means. Confirming this, the Defense Minister of Pakistan said that Pakistan’s nuclear program will also come under the agreement. This is a big step because Pakistan is the only Muslim country with nuclear weapons.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Historical Defense Cooperation of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have long been based on security cooperation. During the Gulf War in the 1990s, Pakistan deployed 11,000 soldiers to protect the Saudi border and holy sites. Even today 1500-2000 Pakistani soldiers are present in Saudi Arabia. It is said that Pakistan’s nuclear program is said by Saudi Arabia with financial support. If this is true, the current agreement formalize that long relationship. According to Cristopher Clary Clary, Associate Professor and South Asia expert at Albani University, it means that any country who attacks Saudi Arabia will now have to take into account Pakistani nuclear capacity.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Benefits and challenges for Pakistan <v /> Pakistan’s economic condition has been critical for a long time. Ahsan Butt, Associate Professor and Pakistani politics analyst at Jord Mason University, believes that Pakistan will get the biggest advantage as financial assistance and investment. The expectation of investment from Sudi Arabia can be a lifeline for Pakistan. Especially investment in areas like transport, aviation and telecommunications will support Pakistan’s weak economy.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> The regional issue from the bilateral issue <v /> recent military clashes has deepened the tension of both countries. Now that the agreement says that Pakistan will be attacked, Saudi Arabia will be attacked, India will have to keep in mind Saudi Arabia on every strategic step. Although Saudi officials have emphasized strong relations with India, this agreement will create new diplomatic and strategic equations for India.

<p style ="Text-Align: justify;"> Israel and International Response
Israel has also been alerted by this agreement. Experts believe that Pakistan can become a big challenge in the eyes of Israel in future. Israel has already targeted the nuclear programs of its enemy countries, so now the threat on the top scientists and nuclear structure of Pakistan may increase.

After Saudi Arabia -Pakistan Defense Agreement, questions were being raised whether Pakistan would give its nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif has responded to this. He said that whatever we have, we will give them. With this statement, the importance of the defense deal between the two countries can be understood.

In an interview to a Pakistani TV news channel, Pakistan Defense Minister Khwaja Asif said that Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities will be available to him under the new Pakistan-Saudi Defense Agreement. He said that the doors of Arab countries joining this agreement have not been closed.

Big: Pakistan Def Minister Says it’s nukes are available for saudi arabia:

Pakistani defense minister khawaja asif said Pakistan’s nuclear capabilitys would be available under the new Pakistan-saudi mutual defense pact.

“What we have, our capability, will absolutely be… pic.twitter.com/kpu6TB67gu

Hope for Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has raised a ray of hope from this announcement. Riyadh had already hoped that Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities would prove to be a kind of security shield for him. However, now this attitude of Pakistan can change the strategy of Saudi Arabia. This step will also help Saudi Arabia’s defense priorities and partnerships. According to a report by Arms Control, Pakistan currently has about 170 nuclear weapons, which is less than India. India has about 172 nuclear weapons.

Defense agreement is not against any third country- Pakistan

Pakistan said on Friday (19 September 2025) that the recent mutual defense agreement with Saudi Arabia is not against any third country. He said that this agreement reflects the commitment of both countries to increase defense cooperation and ensure joint security. Addressing the weekly press conference here, Foreign Office spokesman Shafkat Khan described the agreement as a milestone to promote peace and security in the region and the world.

What is the reaction of India on the Saudi-Pak defense deal?

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a strategic mutual defense agreement on Wednesday (17 September 2025), according to which any attack on the two countries would be considered an attack against both. The agreement has been reached a few days after the Israeli attack on Hamas leadership in Qatar, which is a major ally of America in the Gulf region. Commenting on the development, India said on Thursday (18 September 2025) that it would study the effects of the move on regional and global stability along with its national security.
