After the recent increase in petrol prices in Pakistan, now jet fuel has also become expensive. According to the report of ARY News, the Government of Pakistan has increased the price of jet fuel by 13.23 Pakistani rupees per liter. After this increase, the new price of jet fuel has become 251.02 Pakistani rupees per liter. Information about this increase has been given in the official notification issued by the government. Experts believe that the cost of jet fuel will have a direct impact on the country’s aviation sector. This is likely to increase the operating expenses of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other private airlines.

Aviation experts say that when the expenses of airlines increase, it also affects the passengers. In such a situation, domestic and international air fares may increase in the coming time. It is believed that airlines can compensate for the increased expenses by increasing ticket prices. This decision has been taken at a time when crude oil prices are increasing in the international market. For this reason, there was a possibility of increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in Pakistan. ARY News quoted sources as saying that there was a possibility of increase in the price of petrol by 13 Pakistani rupees per liter and the price of high-speed diesel by 14 Pakistani rupees per liter.

Big decision of Pakistan government

The Pakistan government had increased the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel on June 28, but did not make any change in the retail prices. According to The Express Tribune report, the government did not pass on the benefit of the fall in oil prices in the international market to consumers and kept the prices at the same level. According to data released by the Petroleum Division, petroleum levy on high-speed diesel was increased by Pakistani rupees 6.57 per liter to Pakistani rupees 79.54 per liter. Whereas petroleum levy on petrol has been increased by 39 paise per liter to 66.64 Pakistani rupees per liter. There was no change in the petroleum levy on kerosene oil and it remained at 20.36 Pakistani rupees per liter.

Decision to keep the prices of petrol and diesel stable

The government decided to keep the prices of petrol and diesel stable, but on the other hand tried to increase its revenue by increasing the petroleum levy on these two fuels. However, consumers of kerosene oil have got some relief. The Government of Pakistan has reduced the price of kerosene oil by 6.85 Pakistani rupees per liter. According to the notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the new price of kerosene has been fixed at Pakistani rupees 227.05 per liter, whereas earlier its price was Pakistani rupees 233.90 per liter. Petroleum Division officials have clarified that the increase in petroleum levy has been implemented only on petrol and high-speed diesel. The levy rate on kerosene oil has been kept the same as before.

Amidst the Iran-America tension and fluctuating crude oil prices, the Pakistan government has reduced the prices of petrol and diesel, giving relief to its people. On Friday, Pakistan government reduced the price of petrol by Rs 6 per liter and the price of high speed diesel i.e. HSD by Rs 6.80 per liter. According to the new prices, petrol in Pakistan has now become Rs 403.78 per liter and high speed diesel has become Rs 402.78 per liter. These new rates have been implemented from May 23.

This is the second consecutive week that fuel prices have been reduced in Pakistan. Earlier last week also, the prices of petrol and diesel were reduced by Rs 5 per liter. Petrol is mostly used in private vehicles, bikes, rickshaws and small vehicles, hence reducing its price provides relief to the common people, especially the middle class. Whereas high speed diesel is used in trucks, buses and big generators. In such a situation, transport expenses may also be affected due to diesel being cheaper.

Also read: America-Iran face to face again on nuclear deal, third round of talks in UN also failed, Tehran gave this warning

There was also a record increase earlier

Although at present the prices are decreasing in Pakistan, but earlier a huge increase in the prices of petrol and diesel was also seen there. After the start of the US-Israel conflict over Iran, on March 6, the Pakistan government had increased the prices of petrol and diesel by up to Rs 55 per liter. After this, on April 2, it was announced to increase the price of petrol by 43 percent and the price of diesel by 55 percent.

Review happening every Friday

The Pakistan government has been reviewing the prices of petrol and diesel every Friday since the tension began in February. For this reason, continuous fluctuations are being seen in the price of fuel there. On the other hand, the effect of crude oil prices is visible in India also. Although the increase here has not been as big as in Pakistan, the prices of petrol and diesel have been increased thrice in the last few days. Even on Saturday, petrol became costlier by 87 paise per liter and diesel by 91 paise per litre. Apart from this, the price of CNG has also been increased by Re 1. Due to continuously rising prices, the pressure of inflation is increasing on the common people.

Global Oil Crisis: After the attack on Iran and closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the oil supply chain across the world was badly affected. About 20 percent of the world’s crude oil passed through this sea route. As soon as the road was closed, there was a huge jump in oil prices in the international market. Its biggest impact was on the neighboring countries of India, where the prices of petrol and diesel have increased the problems of the common people.

Petrol and diesel broke the backs of people in Pakistan

Pakistan is said to be in the worst situation. There petrol has become costlier by about 64 percent and diesel by 61 percent in the last three months. Where earlier people had to pay 266 rupees, now they have to pay 458.86 Pakistani rupees for petrol and 520.42 Pakistani rupees for diesel.

Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister announced a 42.7 percent increase in petrol and 54.9 percent increase in diesel in the press conference, after which the concern of people across the country increased. At present petrol is being sold there for $1.64 and diesel for $1.86 per litre. According to Indian currency, petrol in Pakistan is costing around Rs 157.34 and diesel Rs 178.45 per litre. The situation has become so serious that the government has had to implement a four-day working week to save electricity and fuel. Many schools have also been closed.

South Asia’s most expensive petrol in Nepal

The situation in Nepal has also become quite worrying. Nepal has now become the most expensive petrol selling country in South Asia. In April 2026, oil prices were increased four times in just one month. Petrol which was 137 Nepali rupees per liter in January, increased to 219 Nepali rupees. Its price in dollars is $ 1.48 per liter, while in Indian rupees it is around Rs 123.58 per liter. Nepal is completely dependent on imported oil. There, about 60 percent of oil is consumed in the transportation sector. In such a situation, due to the cost of petrol and diesel, there has been a huge increase in the cost of transportation of goods and the prices of everyday items have also increased rapidly.

Even fuel rationing in Sri Lanka

Even in Sri Lanka the situation is not normal. One of Asia’s biggest fuel price hikes was recorded there in March 2026. Auto diesel prices increased by 26.1 percent and the price increased from Rs 303 to Rs 382 per liter. The price of petrol also increased to 398 Sri Lankan rupees per liter, which is approximately Rs 108.55 per liter in Indian currency.

The situation became so bad that fuel rationing had to be implemented in Sri Lanka. That means people are not able to buy oil freely as per their need. The government has also imposed restrictions on schools and public programs, so that oil consumption can be reduced and the economy can be managed.

Pressure increased in Bangladesh also

Bangladesh initially tried not to pass on the burden of rising oil prices to the public, but due to continuously increasing subsidies the government eventually had to increase prices. In April 2026, the prices of petrol and diesel were increased by 10 to 16 percent. Before the Iran war, crude oil was around $70 to $75 per barrel, but after the war its price crossed $100 per barrel. Bangladesh imports about 95 percent of its oil needs. The situation is such that petrol pumps are empty in many districts and people have to stand in queues for hours.

Limited increase in India, government took charge

Amidst all this, India’s situation seems relatively stable. Till May 15, 2026, the price of petrol in India has increased by only Rs 3.14 per liter i.e. about 3.4 percent and that of diesel has increased by Rs 3.11 per liter i.e. about 3.6 percent. While oil prices in neighboring countries increased by 60 percent, in India this increase remained quite limited. The central government and state oil companies bore the brunt of the major shock in the international market to a large extent and did not allow it to reach the general public directly. In this era of global crisis, keeping fuel prices under control in India is being considered as a big news of relief.

The impact of the ongoing Iran-America war in the Middle East is now clearly visible on the entire world. Due to this war, the supply of oil has been affected, due to which shortage of oil is being felt in many countries. Its effect is also being seen in India’s neighboring country Pakistan, where the situation is becoming increasingly difficult.

Due to shortage and rising cost of oil, the Pakistan government has once again increased the prices of petrol and diesel. This time the prices have been increased by Rs 26 77 paise per liter, which has had a direct impact on the common people.

The increase in fuel prices is sure to affect the prices of everyday items as transportation becomes expensive. People of Pakistan are facing economic pressure due to continuously rising prices. If the situation in the Middle East does not improve soon, oil prices may increase further in the future, making the situation more difficult.

Prices increased due to Strait of Hormuz

The biggest impact of the ongoing war between Iran and America is on the oil supply. This is the reason why oil shortage and rising prices are being seen all over the world. Whenever the situation worsens in this area, the first impact is on the route through which a large part of the world transports oil. The Strait of Hormuz is the most important place in this whole matter. About 20 percent of the world’s oil passes through this route. If tension increases here or the road gets blocked for some reason then the oil supply gets immediately affected. Due to this, oil shortage starts in many countries of the world and prices start increasing rapidly.

Most Expensive Petrol Countries: The impact of the rise in crude oil prices across the world is now directly visible on the prices of petrol and diesel. Fuel has become expensive due to tensions related to Iran and interruption in supply. Due to which the expenses of common people are increasing.

The situation is even worse in the neighboring country Pakistan. The situation in Pakistan is such that the price of diesel has increased by about 54.9 percent to 520.35 Pakistani rupees per liter. Whereas petrol has become expensive by about 42.7 percent and has reached Rs 458.40 per liter. Let us know where the cheapest and most expensive petrol in the world is available.

The most expensive petrol is sold in Hong Kong?

If we talk about petrol prices at the global level, Hong Kong appears to be at the top. Here the price of one liter petrol has reached around $4.10. In Indian rupees it is around Rs 340. A major reason for this is that about 80 percent of the petroleum used here is imported from China, due to which the prices remain high.

Petrol is expensive in many countries of Europe

There is a lot of difference in the prices of petrol in different countries of the world. After Hong Kong, countries like Malawi at $2.85 (Rs 264.94) and Netherlands at $2.73 (Rs 253.81) are included in this list.

Petrol is also very expensive in many countries of Europe. Its price in Denmark is $ 2.66 (Rs 247.25), while in Singapore it has reached $ 2.54 (Rs 236.1) and in Germany it has reached $ 2.42 (Rs 224.95) per liter. Apart from this, it has been recorded at 2.41 dollars (224.02 rupees) in Liechtenstein.

Further in the list, countries like Albania $ 2.39 (Rs 222.13), Greece $ 2.36 (Rs 219.34) and Norway $ 2.36 (Rs 219.34) are also included, where petrol prices remain at a very high level.

Where is the cheapest petrol available?

If we talk about lowest priced petrol in the world, Iran is at the forefront. Where the price of one liter petrol is around $0.029 (about Rs 2.69). This country is among the big oil producers, hence the prices here remain quite low.

However, there is still an atmosphere of uncertainty in the country due to war. After this comes the name of Venezuela, where petrol is available around $0.035 (about Rs 2.70) per liter.
