According to the report of ARY News, the Government of Pakistan has increased the price of jet fuel by 13.23 Pakistani rupees per liter. After this increase, the new price of jet fuel has become 251.02 Pakistani rupees per liter. Information about this increase has been given in the official notification issued by the government. Experts believe that the cost of jet fuel will have a direct impact on the country’s aviation sector. This is likely to increase the operating expenses of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other private airlines.

Aviation experts say that when the expenses of airlines increase, it also affects the passengers. In such a situation, domestic and international air fares may increase in the coming time. It is believed that airlines can compensate for the increased expenses by increasing ticket prices. This decision has been taken at a time when crude oil prices are increasing in the international market. For this reason, there was a possibility of increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in Pakistan. ARY News quoted sources as saying that there was a possibility of increase in the price of petrol by 13 Pakistani rupees per liter and the price of high-speed diesel by 14 Pakistani rupees per liter.

Big decision of Pakistan government

The Pakistan government had increased the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel on June 28, but did not make any change in the retail prices. According to The Express Tribune report, the government did not pass on the benefit of the fall in oil prices in the international market to consumers and kept the prices at the same level. According to data released by the Petroleum Division, petroleum levy on high-speed diesel was increased by Pakistani rupees 6.57 per liter to Pakistani rupees 79.54 per liter. Whereas petroleum levy on petrol has been increased by 39 paise per liter to 66.64 Pakistani rupees per liter. There was no change in the petroleum levy on kerosene oil and it remained at 20.36 Pakistani rupees per liter.

Decision to keep the prices of petrol and diesel stable

The government decided to keep the prices of petrol and diesel stable, but on the other hand tried to increase its revenue by increasing the petroleum levy on these two fuels. However, consumers of kerosene oil have got some relief. The Government of Pakistan has reduced the price of kerosene oil by 6.85 Pakistani rupees per liter. According to the notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the new price of kerosene has been fixed at Pakistani rupees 227.05 per liter, whereas earlier its price was Pakistani rupees 233.90 per liter. Petroleum Division officials have clarified that the increase in petroleum levy has been implemented only on petrol and high-speed diesel. The levy rate on kerosene oil has been kept the same as before.

Amidst the Iran-America tension and fluctuating crude oil prices, the Pakistan government has reduced the prices of petrol and diesel, giving relief to its people. On Friday, Pakistan government reduced the price of petrol by Rs 6 per liter and the price of high speed diesel i.e. HSD by Rs 6.80 per liter. According to the new prices, petrol in Pakistan has now become Rs 403.78 per liter and high speed diesel has become Rs 402.78 per liter. These new rates have been implemented from May 23.

This is the second consecutive week that fuel prices have been reduced in Pakistan. Earlier last week also, the prices of petrol and diesel were reduced by Rs 5 per liter. Petrol is mostly used in private vehicles, bikes, rickshaws and small vehicles, hence reducing its price provides relief to the common people, especially the middle class. There was also a record increase earlier

After the start of the US-Israel conflict over Iran, on March 6, the Pakistan government had increased the prices of petrol and diesel by up to Rs 55 per liter. After this, on April 2, it was announced to increase the price of petrol by 43 percent and the price of diesel by 55 percent.

Review happening every Friday

The Pakistan government has been reviewing the prices of petrol and diesel every Friday since the tension began in February. Auto diesel prices increased by 26.1 percent and the price increased from Rs 303 to Rs 382 per liter.
