Taking Medicines Without Prescription: It has become a common practice in India to take medicine from the medical store as soon as there is fever or mild pain. People are using painkillers, fever medicines and cough syrups without doctor’s advice. But recently, after the government banned the dosage of painkiller Nimesulide, this issue is again in discussion as to how dangerous this carelessness can prove to be.

In fact, health experts say that apart from antibiotics and acid medicines, the most misused medicines in India include pain killers, cough syrups and sleeping pills. Excessive or wrong consumption of these medicines can harm many parts of the body.

What is the loss?

Medicines used for pain, swelling and fever are called nonsteroidal. These include medicines like paracetamol, ibuprofen, diclofenac and naproxen. Paracetamol is generally considered safe, but overdose can cause serious damage to the liver. Especially for those who drink alcohol or are already suffering from liver disease, it can also be fatal. Dr PN Venkatesh said in an article in the Sunday Guardian that painkillers like diclofenac and ketorolac, when taken for a long time, increase the risk of stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, kidney damage, heart attack and stroke. Despite this, these medicines are easily available in many places without prescription.

being used openly for a long time

Experts say that Nimesulide, which has been banned by the government, is considered very dangerous for the liver. This drug is already banned in many countries and its use in children below 12 years of age is prohibited in India. Even after this, it continued to be used openly for a long time. Experts are also warning that considering every fever as normal flu can be a big mistake. Serious diseases like dengue, malaria, typhoid, pneumonia, TB, urine infection and meningitis also start with fever. In such a situation, just taking fever medicine suppresses the disease and proper treatment gets delayed, which can prove fatal.

Why is it important to consult a doctor?

In India, medicines are kept in different schedules. Many painkillers come under Schedule H, which means they should be sold only on prescription. But these medicines are also available without prescription. Apart from this, similar brand names of medicines are also a big danger, due to which there is a risk of getting the wrong medicine. Health experts say that the habit of self-medication increases the risk of stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, liver failure, kidney damage and even heart attack. Doctors recommend that in case of fever or pain, one should consult a doctor instead of taking medicine on one’s own.

Painkiller side effect: In today’s fast life, everyone wants the pain to disappear in minutes. Be it headaches, periods of periods or tightness of muscles from tiredness. It has become a habit like swallowing a pen killer bullet without thinking and perhaps you also think what difference does it make with a small bullet? But have you ever thought that this small relief pill can gradually be overshadowed by your liver and kidney health? Many people even take a pen killer two or three times a day, without knowing how serious its effect can be.

How do pen killers work?

Pen killers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, diclofenac etc. prevent the manufacture of a chemical called prostaglandin present in the body to reduce pain and inflammation. They make them feel chemical pain, so when their levels decrease, we get relief.

Also read- get relief from vitiligo through domestic methods, know easy and natural remedies

Why should there be caution?

Effect on liver

Excessive intake of paracetamol can prove to be poisonous for liver. It can damage liver cells and consuming it for a long time can cause hepatitis or liver failure.

Effect on kidney

NSAIDs (eg ibuprofen, diclofenac) affect kidney blood supply. It can gradually weaken kidney function and cause chronic kidney disease.

Blood pressure and heart problems

Constant taking NSAIDs also increases the risk of high blood pressure and cardiovascular problems, especially in the elderly.

When to be cautious?

If you are eating pills at every small trouble

Pen killer has been consumed continuously for a long time

Taking medicines without doctor’s advice

Safe ways to relieve pain

Lukewarm

Mild exercise or yoga

Adequate sleep and hydration

Pen killer is an essential and beneficial medicine. But consuming excessively or repeatedly, it is not relieved, but a slow poison can be made for the body. So the next time there is pain, first ask yourself, do I really want this medicine right now?
