Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra had a special screening of the film in Mumbai in the joy of completing 20 years of the film. Vidya Balan had given many auditions for this role. Vidhu Vinod Chopra said- ‘Many actresses wanted to do Parineeta but Pradeep Sarkar said that there is a new girl from Chambur. So I said-Test the girl of this Chambur. I do not meet actors during most of the screen tests. Vidya had given a lot of tests.

Vidya abused before the final test
He further said- ‘I told Pradeep that they do a final test. Vidya was so tired of this process that she was abusing before the final test. I could see them saying what he understands himself. By then she had given 20-25 tests. But after that he gave a great final test and it was tremendous. I told Pradeep, call him immediately.
