Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chaudhary gave a shocking statement on Thursday on the controversy of bringing a dog into Parliament. In an interview with a TV channel, he clearly said, ‘I have not called any MP a dog. This would be an insult to the dogs. Dogs have loyalty, selfless love and affection, which is not found in humans. It is not right to call humans dogs, it will be an insult to the dogs.

Renuka picked up the dog from the road

This statement of Renuka is related to the incident on the first day of the winter session of Parliament (1 December), when Renuka Chaudhary was coming to the Parliament complex. There was a collision between a scooter and a car on the way and a dog was roaming in the middle of the road. To save it from the accident, Renuka took the dog in her MP’s car and took it to Parliament. After handing him over to the staff there, he asked them to send the dog to a safe place.

This kindness of Renuka displeased BJP MP Jagdambika Pal. He created an uproar by calling it an abuse of the privileges of Parliament. Jagdambika said, ‘Bringing a dog to Parliament is an insult to democracy. This undermines the dignity of Parliament. Strict action should be taken.

This statement of Jagadambika sparked controversy and BJP accused Renuka of calling MPs ‘dogs’.

Monday (December 8) is the sixth day of the winter session of Parliament. There is to be a long discussion on Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha. It was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A special discussion is being held in the Lok Sabha on the completion of 150 years of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. Before the Lok Sabha proceedings, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that there will be a detailed discussion on the topic of 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram song.

Speaking to IANS, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “As per the decision of the Business Advisory Committee, the country is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the song ‘Vande Mataram’ on December 8. In this regard, there will be a discussion on this occasion in the Lok Sabha on Monday and it will continue in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal praised Prime Minister Modi and his policies. He said, “For 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been leading the country and making policies. Through his policies, the policy of social justice seems to be coming on the ground.”

Arjun Ram Meghwal said that social justice has clearly arrived in rural areas. Houses are being upgraded, electricity and toilets are being provided and loans are being given under the Mudra scheme. I was able to see these changes during my frequent visits to the villages. So far 25 crore people have come out of poverty, which is a major achievement in implementing social justice.

According to the program related to ‘Vande Mataram’ debate, ruling NDA members have been allotted three hours out of the total 10 hours allotted for it in the Lok Sabha. The discussion on ‘Vande Mataram’ is likely to be stormy due to differences of opinion about the song between the ruling party and the opposition. The Rajya Sabha session will be held on Tuesday. In the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will initiate the discussion on Tuesday, after which Health Minister and House leader JP Nadda will speak.

In the winter session of Parliament, the country’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh discussed the national song Vande Mataram on Monday (December 8, 2025). Vande Mataram became the immortal song of national spirit – Rajnath

Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha said, “Vande Mataram is complete in itself, but an attempt was made to make it incomplete. It has become the immortal song of national spirit and it will remain so forever, no power can diminish it. The injustice done to Vande Mataram was not an isolated incident, it was the politics of appeasement, which was adopted by the Congress and the politics led to the division of the country and weakened the unity over communal harmony after independence.”

He said, “Today we are restoring the dignity of Vande Mataram, but some people may try to create a narrative that a wall is being built between Vande Mataram and Jana Gana, such an attempt shows a divisive mentality. Vande Mataram and Jana Gana Mana are the cries, two eyes, of the two sons of Mother India. Both Vande Mataram and Jana Gana Mana are national pride.”

He said, “Those who neither understand the origin of civilization, those who neither accept the importance of culture, those who ignored traditions, they neither could understand earlier nor are able to understand now. He said, “Vande Mataram and Anandmath were never against Islam. These lines of Vande Mataram seemed communal and political because they were looking through the lens of Jinnah. These lines of Vande Mataram symbolize the soul of India.”

During the winter session, BJP MP Anurag Thakur, while discussing the national song Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha, said that every person living in India will have to bow before the tricolor and sing the national song Vande Mataram. Taking a dig at the opposition, he said that during their government, biryani was served to Yasin Malik and Sonia Gandhi used to cry after going to Batla House.

Deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Monday (8 December 2025) accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of giving political color to the discussion on Vande Mataram and said that no matter how hard the Prime Minister and the people of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) try, they cannot tarnish the contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. While participating in the discussion on Vande Mataram in the House, he also said, ‘BJP’s political ancestors had no contribution in the freedom struggle.’ Gogoi claimed that Congress was the first to chant Vande Mataram.

The Congress MP said, ‘I listened to the Prime Minister’s speech carefully. He had two objectives. His first objective was to try to convey that your (ruling party) political ancestors were fighting against the British. His second objective was to give a political color to this discussion. Gogoi said that the Prime Minister repeatedly mentions Congress and Nehru in every statement.

Gogoi said that earlier during the discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the House, Prime Minister Modi took the name of Nehru 14 times and the name of Congress 50 times. He said, ‘No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to put even a single black mark on his contribution.’ Referring to the historical perspective, the Congress leader said, ‘The Muslim League wanted to say that the entire Vande Mataram should be boycotted and at that time Maulana Abul Kalam Azad himself had said that he had no objection to Vande Mataram.’ He said, ‘Congress decided in one of its sessions that wherever any event is held, we will sing Vande Mataram.’ Gogoi said, ‘It was opposed by the Muslim League and the Hindu Mahasabha and the Congress was criticized.’ He claimed that BJP has neither understood Bengal nor this nation.

Did PM Modi say this in Parliament on Nehru?

With the beginning of the winter session of Parliament, all the opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP) and DMK have started creating ruckus regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of voter list being conducted by the Election Commission in 12 states and union territories of the country. Even on Tuesday (December 2, 2025), the second day of the winter session, the opposition is continuously protesting vigorously demanding discussion on SIR, due to which the proceedings of the Parliament are being disrupted repeatedly.

However, now efforts have started to end the deadlock in Parliament. According to sources, currently discussions are going on that if the demand of the opposition parties is accepted, then under which rule the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list being done by the Election Commission of India (ECI) can be discussed in the Parliament.

Under which rule is the opposition demanding discussion?

The opposition parties are demanding discussion under Rule 267 i.e. adjournment of the proceedings of the House, the possibility of discussion under that rule is negligible. However, special discussion is also taking place on the fact that the decision of SIR is of the Election Commission. Therefore, instead of directly discussing SIR, issues like election reforms should be discussed in both the Houses of Parliament, in which political parties and MPs will be able to bring up the issue of SIR as per their own.

Final decision is yet to be taken regarding the discussion

Although, no final decision has been taken yet regarding the discussion on the issue of SIR during the winter session of the Parliament, but the discussion has definitely started and if there is a consensus on the ideas between the Central Government and the opposition parties, then it is possible to discuss electoral reforms on the floor of the Parliament in the coming days.
