Now Parliament has also become fully active regarding NEET UG 2026 re-exam. Before the re-examination to be held on June 21, the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare has called senior officials of the Health Ministry, Education Ministry, NTA and NMC for a meeting. In this meeting, exam preparations, security arrangements and the entire process will be reviewed.

This meeting of the Parliamentary Committee will be held on June 10. It will be attended by the Secretaries of the Health Ministry and the Education Ministry along with senior officials of NTA and NMC. The committee wants to understand what steps have been taken to conduct the re-exam in a fair and transparent manner and what preparations have been made keeping in mind the interests of the students.

Strictness increased after paper leak controversy

Actually, the NEET UG 2026 exam held on May 3 was canceled after complaints of paper leak and other irregularities. After this, lakhs of students had to face the situation of re-exam. This whole matter sparked discussion across the country and questions were also raised on the credibility of the examination system. This is why every aspect related to the examination is now being closely monitored.

Officials have already replied

This is not the first time that officials of NTA and related ministries are appearing before a parliamentary committee. Even before this, they have given information on examination related issues before various parliamentary committees. However, this time the meeting is being considered more important in view of the re-exam to be held on June 21.

Increased concern of students and parents

After the cancellation of exams, anxiety has increased among students and their parents. Many students say that they have to prepare again, due to which mental pressure has also increased. In such a situation, everyone’s eyes are now on ensuring that the re-exam is conducted in a completely safe and fair manner.

Special focus will be on exam security

There will also be discussion in the meeting regarding examination security and confidentiality of question papers. This time the government and NTA are making additional security arrangements to avoid any kind of disturbance. Surveillance has been increased at every level, from examination centers to distribution of question papers.

Re-exam will be held on June 21

NTA has already made it clear that NEET UG 2026 re-exam will be conducted on June 21 in pen and paper mode. Lakhs of candidates are waiting for this examination. Now it remains to be seen how much the examination process is strengthened after the review and suggestions of the parliamentary committee.

Amidst the ongoing debate in the country regarding the transparency of competitive examinations and board examinations, an important committee of the Parliament has put both NTA and CBSE in the circle of questions. Answers have been sought on many issues ranging from the NEET-UG 2024 controversy to the on-screen marking system of CBSE. The committee says that when the future of lakhs of students depends on these examinations, then any kind of irregularity or negligence cannot be ignored.

NTA was asked what is paper leaking after all?

The most important question that the committee has asked from NTA is what is the definition of “paper leak” in its view. Recently, NTA officials had claimed that no paper was leaked from their system and many of the questions that went viral on social media were only part of the guess paper. Now the committee wants the agency to explain in writing what circumstances it considers to be a paper leak and whether any such case has come to light in any examination conducted after 2018.

Answer also sought on NEET-UG 2024 controversy

There was a lot of controversy last year regarding the NEET-UG 2024 exam. Allegations of paper leaks and examination irregularities had come to light from many states. In view of this, the committee has asked that apart from the action of the investigating agencies, what investigation was conducted by NTA on its own behalf and what conclusions was reached. Besides, complete details of steps taken to strengthen examination security have also been sought.

Employees and system will also be reviewed

The parliamentary committee is not limited to the issue of paper leak only. It has also sought information from NTA about the number of staff for the last three years, new recruitments and administrative structure of the agency. The committee wants to understand whether the agency conducting such huge examinations has adequate resources and staff or not.

Account sought on recommendations of Radhakrishnan Committee

After the NEET controversy, the central government had formed a committee of experts to improve the examination system. This committee had given 101 recommendations to make the examination process more secure and transparent. Now the parliamentary committee has asked NTA how many of these recommendations have been implemented and what progress has been made on the rest.

Questions raised on CBSE’s OSM system

On the other hand, CBSE’s on-screen marking system is also under scrutiny. The committee has asked the board why there were repeated changes in the conditions of the tenders issued for the OSM system. Why was there a need to remove or weaken some rules and what were the reasons behind these decisions. The committee also wants to know why changes were made in the technical standards. Clarification has also been sought on many decisions related to the quality of scanning, arrangement of data centers and digitization of answer sheets.

The committee has also asked for many documents and reports related to OSM system from CBSE. Apart from this, it has also been asked to provide information about the report prepared during the dry run and the steps taken on it. The Committee wants to know whether there was any discussion with the Education Ministry on these reports or not.

The parliamentary committee has asked both NTA and CBSE to give their replies within the stipulated time limit. The education world and lakhs of students are now waiting for these answers. It is believed that after the investigation of the committee and the replies of the agencies, some important decisions can be taken regarding improvement and accountability in the examination system.

A Standing Committee of Parliament has also recommended the inclusion of the government’s Institution of Eminence (IOE) scheme to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. This suggestion was given by the Parliamentary Committee on the grant of the Higher Education Department for the financial year 2025-26 for the financial year 2025-26.

What is Ioe Plan?

The government launched the Institution of Eminence (IOE) scheme in 2017, through which Indian higher educational institutions are included in the global rankings and given them more freedom. Under this scheme, financial assistance of up to ₹ 1,000 crore is also provided to government universities, so that they can improve research capabilities and infrastructure in their universities.

Why does JNU need Ioe tag?

JNU Vice Chancellor Professor Dhulipudi Pandit expressed concern about the financial challenges of the university last year. He had said that “We have been demanding the tag for a long time. If we get this tag, we will get financial help of ₹ 1,000 crore, which will reduce the university’s financial crisis to a great extent.”

How many institutions have received Ioe tag so far?

So far, this prestigious tag has been given to only eight public institutions. The Parliamentary Committee not only recommended JNU to be included in this list, but also suggested that colleges should also be given more freedom under the universities that have already received IOE tags. Institutions like Delhi University (DU) are expected to benefit from this. If JNU gets an IOE tag, it will not only get financial help, but the university will also get more freedom in syllabus and administrative decisions.

One nation one election news: The tenure of the Joint Committee of Parliament constituted to consider the Bills proposed to conduct the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in India simultaneously has now been extended. This decision was taken on Tuesday (March 25) when the committee was entrusted with the task that it would present its report by the last week of this year.

The 39-member Joint Committee formed to consider the two Bills submitted with the objective of holding the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously- ‘Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024’ and ‘Union Territory of Law (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ now proposed to extend the tenure. The chairman of the committee and BJP MP PP Chaudhary kept this proposal in the Lok Sabha, which was approved by the House. This committee has been given time to make intensive views and final recommendations on these bills.

Deadline set for committee report

These bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 17 last year and now the committee has been directed to submit the report by the first week of the upcoming monsoon session. These bills are in the direction of implementing a step under which elections of Lok Sabha and Assembly can be conducted simultaneously. Due to this, there is a possibility of saving time in the election process and better use of resources.

Committee supported under the chairmanship of former President

The proposal is based on the basis of the high-level committee constituted under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind, which supported the concept of ‘one nation-one election’. Accepting the recommendations of this committee, the Union Cabinet introduced two bills, one of which is the Constitution Amendment Bill and the other is the Union Territory of Law (Amendment) Bill.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla constituted a 39 -member joint parliamentary committee under the chairmanship of PP Chaudhary in this regard which is considering these bills. Now the committee will have to submit its report in the Lok Sabha within the stipulated time. If these bills are passed then they will indicate a major change in the election process.
