Controversial movies 2025: Prateek Gandhi and Patralekha starrer film ‘Phule’ has been released in theaters amidst the hurry across the country. The film was accused of insulting ‘Brahmins’ and there was a lot of controversy. However, ‘Phule’ is not alone in the list of films released amid controversy. This year, Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhava’ and other films including Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ are also included.

‘Phule’ released in theaters

Prateek Gandhi and Patralekha starrer Anant Mahadevan’s film ‘Phule’ was released in theaters on 25 April. The film is getting mixed reaction from the audience and critics. There was anger across the country about ‘Phule’. It was earlier scheduled to release on April 10, but due to the dispute, its date was slipped.

The Brahmin community raised objections against the film and accused them of humiliating, after the protest, the censor board made several cuts in the film and the film finally managed to appear in theaters in theaters. At the same time, producer-director Anurag Kashyap’s statement on Brahmins was also in controversy.

‘Phule’ is based on the life of social activist Jyotirao Govindrao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule, who fought against caste discrimination and for the right to education of women. In the film, actor Prateek Gandhi played the role of Mahatma Phule. At the same time, Patralekha is in the role of Savitribai Phule.

There was also a dispute about Sunny Deol’s ‘Jat’

Controversies also got into controversy over the action film ‘Jat’ adorned with Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Regina Casendra, Saiyami Kher and other intended stars. On April 10, the Christian community expressed displeasure over a scene of the film released in theaters and also lodged an FIR against the film’s team. The community alleged that the Christian community was insulted in the film and hurt religious sentiments. However, the makers removed the disputed scene from the film. ‘Jat’ has joined the 100 crore club.

Blockbuster ‘Chhava’ was also surrounded in controversies

Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandana’s ‘Chhava’ is also included in the list of films to be released in theaters amid controversies. The film based on the life and valor of Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Shivaji Maharaj, proved to be the biggest hit of the year 2025. The controversy, which started after the film’s trailer was released, continued till the release of the film.

Along with opposing Sambhaji Maharaj’s dance in a song, the story of the film was accused of tampering with historical facts. Along with Maharashtra, many organizations of the country lodged objections about this. The censor board made many cuts in the film. ‘Chhava’ was successful in earning more than 500 crores in India alone.

Kangana’s film also faced controversy

Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’, released on January 17 this year, was also stuck in controversy. In the film directed and starring Kangana Ranaut, she appeared in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. There was a lot of controversy over the release of the film based on the ‘Emergency’ in 1975 by the former PM.

The protesters had accused of tampering with historical facts. In ‘Emergency’, Kangana Ranaut along with Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade and late Satish Kaushik were in important roles. Kangana Ranaut’s performance in the film was highly praised. However, the box office collection of the film was not special.

Ananth mahadevan on phule: Anant Mahadevan, the producer of ‘Phule’, requested the Brahmins to watch the film before making an opinion. In a special conversation with IANS, Anant Mahadevan spoke openly about his film, its content and the suggested changes of the censor board.

Seeing the protest, the producer of ‘Phule’, Anant Mahadevan, said that the hurt community first watch the film and then give its opinion. He said that he has followed all the rules suggested by the censor board.

The effect of the film will not be less

Sharing his views on the changes suggested by the Central Film Certification Board (CBFC), Mahadevan told IANS, “He was probably more alert and had some recommendations, there were some changes that he wanted to do.”

He said that despite these changes, the impact of the film has not diminished. We followed it because we want to walk according to the law, but the only thing is that we have become a little more sensitive, even if those words have been retained, even if those points have been retained, I do not think anyone will object to it, but somewhere we had to improve it, but I want to assure you that the effect of the film will not be less.

‘U’ certificate received from the censor board

CBFCs were asked to remove words like ‘Mang’, ‘Mahar’ and ‘Peshwai’ from this film. Apart from this, the scene of ‘broom -borne man’ was asked to replace ‘Savitribai’s dung throwing boys’ and ‘3000 years old slavery’ was changed to ‘many years old’. Inviting everyone to see ‘Phule’ on 25 April, the manufacturer said that he got a clean ‘U’ certificate from the censor board.

He said that CBFC itself has supported the film and said that the film should look at the younger generation as Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule started a revolution in their teenage age which is still going on. In this project, Prateek Gandhi Jyotirao Phule and Patralekha will be seen in the role of Savitribai Phule.
