The 29th match of IPL 2026 was played on Sunday between Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in New Chandigarh, by winning which PBKS created history. Punjab is the first team in IPL history, which has not lost even a single match after the first 6 matches. Batting first, Punjab scored a huge score of 254 runs, Priyansh Arya (93) and Cooper Connolly (87) played brilliant innings. While chasing the target, LSG could score only 200 runs. Punjab won the match by 54 runs.

Lucknow Super Giants innings (highlights)

While chasing the big target of 255 runs, Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni gave a good start to Lucknow Super Giants, both of them added 61 runs for the first wicket. Marsh scored 40 runs in 28 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 3 fours, Baroi scored 35 runs in 21 balls. The first wicket fell in the form of Badoni on the last ball of the last over of the powerplay.

After this, there was a partnership of 48 runs between Rishabh Pant and Marsh, after Marsh’s departure, Rishabh Pant also soon returned to the pavilion. Captain Pant scored 43 runs in 23 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 1 four, he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. Once again Nicholas Puran disappointed, he could score only 9 runs. After Puran’s dismissal, Lucknow’s hopes were almost over, although Aiden Markram definitely reduced the difference of runs, he played a good inning of 42 runs in 22 balls, in which he hit 3 sixes and as many fours. Mukul Chaudhary scored 21 runs in 17 balls. Lucknow scored 200 runs in 20 overs, and Punjab won the match by 54 runs.

Punjab did not have a good start, Prabhsimran Singh was out for zero in the very first over. He was dismissed by Mohammed Shami, but after this there was a historic partnership of 182 runs between Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly. Both the batsmen scored stormy half-centuries, although both missed their century.

Priyansh Arya scored 93 runs in 37 balls. In this innings played at a strike rate of 251, he hit 9 sixes and 4 fours. Cooper Connolly scored 87 runs in 46 balls with the help of 7 sixes and 8 fours.

Although Punjab Kings’ scoring pace slowed down due to back to back wickets falling, in the end short but important innings of Marcus Stoinis and Nehal Wadhera helped Punjab cross 250. Stoinis scored 29 runs in 16 balls and Vadhera scored 13 runs in 7 balls.

The most economical bowler for Lucknow Super Giants was Prince Yadav, who took 2 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. Avesh Khan proved to be expensive, he gave 46 runs in 3 overs and could not take any wicket. Mohammed Shami gave away 56 runs in 4 overs, he took 1 wicket. Aiden Markram bowled one over, which cost 32 runs. This proved to be the most expensive over of IPL 2026.

Hardik Pandya’s catch record was recorded in the name of Xavier Bartlett, but 100 percent effort was of Shreyas Iyer. He caught the ball on the boundary line and threw the ball towards the field in the air, which Bartlett caught easily. Suryakumar and Rohit Sharma were also surprised to see this. Hardik was out after scoring 14 runs in 12 balls. Before Hardik’s wicket, it seemed that Mumbai would reach 220.

After the win, Shreyas Iyer said, “We are full of confidence and optimism for the upcoming matches. We are playing well. We know that every match is important. It is a team effort, and we are happy to have got a great win.”

Iyer further said, “Prabhasimran has raised the level of his game considerably. If we look at the previous edition, where he used to play fearlessly, score runs and give a good start to the team. Now he has matured and is also finishing the matches.” Iyer laughingly said that my catch was the key to turning the match. Iyer expressed happiness that till now his team has been lucky in winning the toss.

Punjab Kings reached number one

Punjab Kings is the only team which has not lost a single match yet in IPL 2026. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team played 5 matches and won 4. One match was canceled due to rain. Punjab is at first place in the points table with 9 points.

When Ajinkya Rahane and Angris Raghuvanshi were at the crease, Kolkata Knight Riders had a score of 62/2 and to win was needed 50 runs in 75 balls. Who could say that Punjab Kings will still defend this score. In this exciting match on Tuesday, Kolkata’s last 8 batsmen were dismissed within 33 runs and Punjab won the match by 16 runs. This is the smallest score in IPL history, which has been defended by a team. Disappointed with this defeat, a video of KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane is going viral, in which he is speaking something to Shreyas Iyer in Marathi.

Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 8th over, by then Kolkata’s possibility of victory was 98 percent. After this, Tu Chal Main Aa Aaye Wali Chawla started and KKR batsmen collapsed like cards.

After the match, Rahane took responsibility for the defeat and said that only after he was dismissed, the match started going to the other side. He said about the batting of the KKR team, “We really batted very poorly as a batting unit, the bowlers performed really well against Punjab’s strong batting line up. I felt that we were careless, we should take full responsibility as a unit.”
