The ongoing peace talks in Istanbul between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban have failed. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that the talks have ended without any success.

CNN-News18 quoted sources as saying that Khawaja Asif has said that the Taliban regime is not giving written guarantees to stop cross-border terrorism and also the mediators involved in this process are now fed up with the deadlock. Asif said, “The talks in Istanbul have failed.” He further said that he does not believe that another round of mediation will happen anytime soon.

Khawaja Asif accused the Taliban of not being serious about tackling terrorism in the region and stressed that Islamabad will continue to use all necessary options to protect its people and sovereignty.
