Petrol-Diesel Prices All over the world: The prices of petrol and diesel have been increased thrice in the last 10 days in India. Due to this, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by about Rs 4.80 to Rs 5.00 per litre.

There was panic among the people after the rate increase. Crowds started gathering in fuel stations, opposition parties started cornering the government over rising prices and inflation, and at some places people also started cursing the government. But do you know that at present India is the only country where the situation is under control. In comparison to the whole world, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased the least in India alone. If you know the condition of other countries of the world, you will be shocked.

Prices have increased 3 times in India so far

Between February and May 2026, amidst the global crisis, there has been a huge jump in the prices of petrol in different countries, of which the increase in India is the least. Under the pressure of crisis in West Asia, after a long time, the prices of petrol and diesel were increased by Rs 3 per liter in India on May 15. Just four days later, on May 19, the price was increased by an average of 90 paise per liter in the second tranche. Then on May 23, the prices of petrol were increased by 87 paise and diesel by 91 paise. If it is compared with other countries of the world, it is quite low.

What measures did the government take in India?

Even when crude oil prices were skyrocketing across the world due to the war between America and Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, India did not allow petrol prices to increase for 76 days. During this period, Indian oil companies like IOCL, BPCL and HPCL suffered daily losses of up to Rs 1000 crore, but did not let the burden of inflation fall on the general public. Before the crisis in crude oil supply deepened in March 2026, the government had also reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs 10 per liter, which helped in maintaining the prices around Rs 100.

Outcry for petrol and diesel in the world

Petrol prices in London have crossed Rs 190 per litre. Even in the European Union, the price has crossed Rs 179 per litre. The most expensive petrol in the world is currently in Hong Kong. The prices here have reached close to 300 litres. Petrol is currently being sold for 2.90 USD in Netherlands, which is around Rs 245-255 per liter according to Indian currency.
